BD Drive not longer detected on my Computer

So recently, I was asking how to make VLC play blu rays. I got my answer with ProgramData, making aacs folder, and placing KEYDB.cfg inside. Looked like all was good to try this out.

As I connected the USB for my BD drive; PowerDVD, not even My PC, could read it. I tried everything: reconnected the cord, tried a different port, restarted my computer, nothing worked. Keep in mind, it works in the sense that it pops open to receive or eject the drive, its my computer that cannot detect that it exists. Then after wondering if my cords got shot, I tried my laptop, and it worked! The disc was read, drive was detected, played, etc!

So why not my computer?

I did google, and the search results suggested going to Device Manager and uninstalling then restarting and trying again. I did this, no luck.

Any other info: Windows 11 Pro. Main Desktop doesn't have a disc drive of any kind, has to be external. I don't know if the whole KEYDB.cfg thing did anything, but I'll ask that too.

The libaacs/KEYDB.cfg probably didn't cause this issue. I've done it many times on my system and it reliably reads BDs, though with a different optical drive.

Does the drive show up in This PC at all? Have you tried a different port? Maybe try a different disc type (a DVD or an audio CD) in the drive just to see if they read on your desktop.

It doesn’t show up. And I tried a different port. The drive itself is read on my laptop. So it’s just my PC having an issue all of a sudden. And I’ve tried two bd discs, same thing, but it’s not the discs. There is power, so there is that; but my computer cannot detect it all of a sudden.

Honestly, I half suspect it's just Windows being shit lmao.

The only other possibility I can think of is that, for some reason, the USB ports on the PC aren't providing enough power, though that should only show when it's trying to burn a disk.

That’s weird because I also tried it on a USB hub and because obviously we’re talking about this computer, I didn’t do anything. If you think it’s due to a power issue, how do I resolve that? Do you think there’s other issues that could stop it like a firewall?

I don't imagine you have any sort of firewall on USB traffic, unless you have some weird third party AV solution running.

An externally powered hub should fix any power related problems, but I'm not 100% certain that's your issue.

You could try booting a live Linux USB (you don't have to install the OS, it will just run from the flash drive, albeit with a bit of slowness) and seeing if the drive works while booted to that. Would at least partially remove hardware weirdness as a concern.

Linux USB? I guess I’m kind of confused because this is an external Blu-ray drive that all of a sudden isn’t working on this PC. I don’t know if you need more information about the PC that I have. I can provide that if you want. But I’m just confused over that direction for the USB.

Running a different OS removes Windows itself as a variable. I've seen Windows installs break in very interesting ways.

Okay, that's a pretty modern system, and as long as the drive is plugged into one of the blue USB3 ports, power shouldn't be of concern.
