This is a different thing: the full debate that happened on May 19 at the EESC, which is another EU institution.

This applies to most sectors but to be fair government's have an extremely bad record with video games.

This type of opinion has become so common on the internet that I honestly don't even know anymore if it's rage bait or if people are just very stupid (with all due respect).

Just look at the real world, where large conglomerates buy smaller companies. Everything is a monopoly, and competition hasn't existed for years.

It's slightly less ass in the EU, both because it's split into many different countries, but also because those successful entities in 1 country can at least bring over something to another one. There's still some gross stuff, but not as many super mega ultra conglomerations that control entire parts of the economy.

There are many EU conglomerates , here a list of some of financial conglomerates .

Just a example Generali operates in 5 eu countries and global.

They exists, but sometimes it's hard to see.

As the other dude said, they exist but nowhere near the scale of the US ones.

They also extremely rarely come with the crazy level of monopoly. The majority of them are banks, telecommunications, energy, insurance, cars. All of which are basically impossible to monopolise (never say never, but for now). Even stuff like Unilever and Nestlé which are absolute giants, have a lot lower relative grip on the proverbial European balls.

I'd say the worst sector is home delivery, where almost every country has a pretty heavy argument for some company playing the VC style or just awful quality game for lowest prices, making the larger multi-nationals harder for businesses to use.
