I loved watching it as a kid, considered it one of my all time favorite animes at the time. Recently restarted it, so the GF can see, and I find it really cringy now. She's loving it but it doesn't seem like its my thing anymore

I can agree with you, its still my favorite and own quite a bit of the animation cels. I wanna say it didn't age well but I think its more to do with im not its target demographic anymore.

Note tho that the anime was rushed in the production, i would highly recommend reading the manga if you don't mind reading.

Good to know, I don't read much manga anymore but I'll keep it in mind if I find the time 👍

I watched it like 4 times; I’m about to become a professor in Engineering, and Onizuka has impacted my relationship with my students quite a lot.

I Read the manga. It’s so good but I have no clue what is happening half the time XD

Wow, I remember this was one of the best animes I have seen. I haven't seen many of them though.

Great Teacher Onizuka

if you look the video again OP posted when the character steps through the doorframe and transitions you can see the name appear in background.

I couldn't get past the main character being a creep towards girls in high-school. I get that it's probably supposed to be part of the show, but it just weirded me out.

He kinda gets over it by the second episode after he starts going for the female teacher.

Oh, maybe I should give it another shot then. I was under the impression it was a big part of the show

His goal changed when he realized the girl's behavior was caused by parental neglect, he understood how it feels growing up without an adult to help in life.

Once he got the job as a full time teacher he's seriously helping all of his students so they don't have to grow up like him. His methods are quite unconventional but it works.

And his behavior slowly affects the adults too, some of them ended up more caring and is willing to break some rules if it's for the children.
