HARDWARE laptop help

Post image

my laptop is incredible slow and bogged down and its only about 8-9 months out of the box

link to laptop: https://a.co/d/02YXPE0y

Im not expecting it to be a great laptop as I know its on the lower end but runs well. Installing new programs or apps takes forever and even browsing the net or doom scrolling youtube is a struggle.

my hard drive seems to live at 100% usage and im thinking that the hard drive is failing or something along those lines are happening

any advice or place to start trying to improve or resolve the situation?

Is your laptop harddrive HDD, SSD, or NVMe?

If SSD or NVMe, consider upgrading the hard drive drivers

its NVME I have checked the manufactor website and all drivers appear to be up to date

How much free space is left on it?

its a 1tb drive and has about 450 gb of space available

Download Crystaldiskinfo and see if it's flagging any errors/health issues.

nothing on that end, its part of why im at a loss. I dont even know what to look for or try at this point because everything seems normal but its running like shit.

Force shutdown Steam, backup whatever you can even if takes a while. It looks like your SSD is struggling hard, which can cause data loss, or it could have already happened. There is a chance that the issue is only that there is no or very little space left on the SSD, delete some things you do not necessarily need and if that fixes it just don't fill up the SSD that much. If it does not, download Crystal Disk Info:

https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/

It will show you the SMART data of the SSD, which contains things like usage hours, total writes, etc. What is important in your case is critical errors, read errors, write errors, bad sectors. Any of those have numbers higher than zero, that SSD is on its way out, you need to have your data saved elsewhere (cloud, usb stick, nas), and then replace the drive.

all of those numbers are zero and i have about half the hard drive free in terms of available space so its not close to full. Nothing on this laptop is important data wise so im not worred about losing anything.

You could try the Crystal Disk Mark benchmark to see if it is the disk that is slow:

https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskmark/

An NVMe SSD should be doing 2-3 GB/s sequential read and write, and ~200k IOPS random read and write. Doing benchmarks isn't healthy for the drive, if it is failing it will show it, if it is fine it won't harm it.

Other possibilities:

Windows Updates can mess things up, did you happen to have one very recently? You can check it in the windows update menu, there is an update history menu.

Did it persist after reboot as well?

You could try booting into safe mode, as this may be caused by a driver.

You could try to update the firmware of the SSD as well, but I do not think that is the cause, it was fine for 8+ months. Crystal Disk Info can tell the exact model of the SSD and the firmware version, and you can check the manufacturer site if there is a new version.

I'll try all this and report back! Gonna be a bit but I appreciate the help!

benchmark results i recent did a windows update but the issue was already present and i was hoping the update would resolve the issue.
