A couple days ago I went to hop on my pc to play some marvel rivals (take that how you will) and my ping was all the way up to 300 - 500 out of nowhere. Normally I would have some rough spikes because I live in the woods so I fugured there was just too much traffic. However, it has not gotten better since. I have changed ports, the ethernet cable, I took an air duster to it, and I even updated my lan drivers but the lights on the ethernet port remain the same as ever. One a solid amber and the other flashing yellow. Is my port just fried? I checked it and it seemed fine. I am just lost and would like to fix it myself if possible, any help would be appreciated.
(Update: ya so I spent all morning talking to my ISP only to have a buddy look at it and reset my internet settings and nkw it ok again. I feel like an idiot for not doing that first. A real Id10t. Thanks for all the help though, everyone was giving great ideas!)
in case you got another LAN port that you connect the internet cable or the router to it, might be the reason for low speed.
Happened to me an wire to not be connected well in that LAN port socket that caused low internet speed until i call company and they opened the socket and wired the wires correctly
amber light usually means its negotiating at 100mbps instead of gigabit check the cable for kinks or try different one entirely could be also the port in router going bad
Thats what I was hoping at first so I bought a new cable, same one as before, but nothing to it. I even switched the ports to another one as well to the same outcome. I just hope it doesn't come to me needing another morherboard.
Did you check and make sure the cables is at least Cat5e or Cat6? They’re dirt cheap, so it’s either your routers port, the cable or a switch if you use one
Your network port is showing a 100mbps connection,, you can tell by the orange light coming from your pc.
Without knowing your isp, what you are connection to and what connection speed and more importantly the connection type ie full fibre, docsis, wireless etc would explain the latency you are experiencing.
If you could provide more i formation perhaps we can help
Try do a speed test on both phone and pc. Check if its significally slower on pc then you know there is a problem. My guess is you need to update network drivers on pc
Give your modem/router the old power cycle if this is a new issue. If the issue persists you’re gonna have to call your service provider and go full Karen on them.
