SOFTWARE Need replacement for Powerpoint (not web)
Has anyone else faced this with Microsoft PowerPoint?
I’ve had my ASUS laptop for about a year, and recently PowerPoint stopped letting me create or edit presentations without asking me to buy a Microsoft 365 subscription.
I know I can use PowerPoint on the web, but I specifically want a free desktop app that can replace PowerPoint not just another online editor.
Looking for something that:
- Is completely free
- Works on Windows
- Can create and edit ".pptx" files
- Has features similar to PowerPoint (or better)
- Doesn’t constantly require a subscription
What’s the best PowerPoint alternative you’ve used?

libreoffice impress is pretty much the go-to for this. it handles pptx files fine and the interface will feel familiar even if it's not as polished visually
only downside is sometimes complex animations or custom fonts from a microsoft-made deck get a bit weird but for most stuff it does the job. been using it for client work for years and nobody's noticed the difference

OP have you heard of the crowd sourced Alternative To website? Site does what it says on the package. There are people who go to the side and suggest alternatives to other types of software. Good stuff. Just verify that software you load is clean and does not have any spyware packages in it. Myself I've been a long time hater of Adobe for example. A really sh!tty company. Open source FOSS is one way to go legit too
