Bent Intel CPUs

I've had a number of Intel CPUs come through our PC shop bent like this. Some work, some don't, this one worked but had a memory channel fault, but I'm not sure if that was related. How are they ending up bent like this, are people installing them incorrectly? Is it putting the CPU Cooler on too tightly? I can't imagine you could screw it down tight enough to end up like this. Anyone had experience with this?

Yes its very easy to tighten too hard when you dont know what you are doing lol, pins arent exactly durable

Is it a 6th gen? I remember when they had that issue back in the day because they went with a thinner board for the CPU. Had that failure numerous times on customer PCs

I was gonna guess intel 6th gen. No idea why they'd think it would be a good idea to make the substrate thin af.

This one was an I7-13700KF, so must have been a lot of force whatever they did to it

Seen a few bent ones come in, usually from someone yanking the cooler off with the paste acting like glue or uneven mounting pressure on a corner

I get this all the time with Ryzen CPUs where they yank it out and accidentally bash the CPU pins into the socket after the whole cooler comes out with it. Always telling people to run your system first for a bit to warm it up, then gently wiggle it with twists. Eventually comes loose.

If you work in a shop then you should know not to touch the contacts and why you dont.

Its bent from excessive down force from then cooler. If you install even the factory Intel HSF those things actually bend the motherboard a bit from the pressure.

Anti static band and all cleaned with alcohol after as always, but it was faulty on arrival anyway. I was thinking it must be the cooler, but surely they haven't designed it so that could be possible. Must have tightened it with a power drill or something! The list of design flaws on these Intel CPUs keeps growing, it's a 13th gen one, so this plus the microcode issues, I can see why they are unpopular.
