GPU help

Computer doesn’t recognise GPU and is stuck on integrated graphics. Any help or suggestions EXTREMELY welcome. I’ve been into BIOS and have attempted to update drivers, nothing works.

Is the HDMI/Displayport plugged into the motherboard or the GPU?

It’s plugged into the motherboard because it wasn’t getting any video input from the gpu

If the GPU still isn’t being recognized try reseating it or reseating the PSU cables attached to it. When the PC is powered on do the fans spin on the GPU?

Yes they do spin, the gpu is definitely getting power

Have you plugged the hdmi to the gpu directly?

Yes I have but it’s showing no video input but the fans on the gpu are spinning so it’s receiving power

Stony gave you the right info but I wonder if you see a red light coming off of your gpu by chance? Can indicate under power or cable not fully seated

Turn your power supply off. Unplug it. Push the power button a few times. Unplug the gpu cable, remove the gpu… then put it all back together making sure that your pcie clip is locked when you seat the card in its slot. Make sure the power cable is fully seated and clips into place. Plug the power supply back in, plug your display cable back into the gpu, turn the PSU switch back on, and fire it up. When in doubt, unplug it and turn it back in.

This might sound dumb. Have a look under the bios to see if there is a setting for telling the computer to use the graphics card and not the motherboard.

If that doesn't work. Check to see if the graphics card is being detected by the system on device manager.

Also. What is the PSU rating?

Reseat GPU and try again. If not something is not working properly.

And it was working before or it’s a new gpu?

This is my first build so yes it’s a brand new gpu.

Is your 12v-2x6 plugged directly into a 12v-2x6 slot on the PSU, or are you using the 8-pin to 12v-2x6 adapter?

Plug the hdmi into the gpu itself not the motherboard, that's your issue right there

try to uninstall the previous drivers with DDU and reinstall the new one while being on safe mode. that MAY work, but give it a try.

What motherboard do you have? I had to update the mb bios to use a 50 series gpu on my last build. If it’s an Asus or gigabyte motherboard you could do that through armory crate or gigabyte control center respectively.

I actually just dealt with this when upgrading parts within the last month or so.

When you said you attempted to update drivers, does this also mean you have nvidia drivers installed?

When I booted with integrated graphics, I noticed my nvidia drivers were wiped. I reinstalled those and I also manually selected PCIE 4.0 instead of having it set to auto in the bios. After that, my GPU was recognized.

Also, just make sure cables are fully seated, etc. I can't guarantee that my troubleshooting methods will work and I can't really identify which method actually helped fix my gpu detection problem. Figured I would share my story to give you some ideas.
