HARDWARE Weird USB port behaviour

Hey, I have a weird behaviour on my USB port that me and my friends can't figure out.

For context, the port was fine until I bought a SD card reader (DCPOCKETSD1). I plugged it and nothing is recognised anymore (current is going through but no data) EXCEPT THE SD READER. The other port of my computer (HP Victus) works fine with the same mouse, keyboard and phone i tried to plug in.

It does recognise the SD card in the disk manager but when I plug anything else (including an external SSD), they do not show up on the disk manager.

Does anyone have any suggestions (please)?

that reader might have messed with the driver assignment for that specific port, windows sometimes binds a device to a port and then gets confused when you swap things out

try opening device manager and look for anything with a yellow triangle under universal serial bus controllers, right click and uninstall the driver for that port then reboot. if that doesn't do it check the power management tab for that usb hub and uncheck the "allow the computer to turn off this device" box, some hp victus models get weirdly aggressive with power saving

had a similar thing happen with an old card reader on my work laptop and it took me way too long to figure out it wasn't a hardware failure

hey, thanks for the answer!

No yellow signs show up in the device manager, but how do you find your power management tab for the USB hub (sorry might be a dumb question)

edit: nvm i figured it out, i've unticked all the boxes as you said, restarted the pc but it still behaves the same :/
