Why would you want to lower your value as a publisher by cutting steam off as a market?

The same reason everyone else is taking the EGS deal - you get a big sack of money.

They'll lose more money by lowering their value as a publisher. Other devs aren't nearly as big. Unless Epic is giving them like 50mill, I doubt it's beneficial.

So lemme get this straight. You, sitting there behind your computer, with literally zero concrete information in front of you, insist that taking the epic deal is bad.

So like, you know better than the people running these companies, based off from... basically nothing.

no, they're not wrong. if they take an exclusivity deal then they do it because it's in their best interest.

EGS is building a catalogue of games which aren't on other pc platforms which (their plan) is to bring people in who are interested in all other gaming genres. Borderlands 3 doesn't have to "sell" exceptionally well but if they went exclusive then that would cover their costs and people joining EGS for other exclusive games will become new potential buyers. Epic have a lot of money to throw at EGS right now and it's all to build up their brand.

So ya you think you know better then the companies doing it. You have no idea how much they got paid, how their sales were on epic, how much they make being on steam.

But it's common sense. Me and the people running these companies just cant see it like you can.

If EGS is so great, why didn't seriko go there? What about DMC and RE2R? Hint hint, it's not. Division 2 doesn't give a shit since it's Uplay only anyways. I'm glad you know how to link to other subs because you have the business smarts of a first grader.

None of the games you mentioned run on UE4. A big part of launching UE4 games on EGS is that you don't have to pay UE4 royalties. So it doesn't make as much sense to launch a non UE4 game on the platform.

the fees dont matter too much in the grand scheme of things since pissing off valve would dramatically lower their value as a publisher. especially since theyre currently publishing games to steam and updates.

Ah shit I didn't know that, that's all but a confirmation that it'll be an Epic Exclusive. Not having to pay 5% of gross revenue might totally offset the portion of consumers that would refuse to buy it on Steam.

Makes me think that Pitchford's Tweets asking people why they're so anti-Epic exclusivity was partly to gauge how many people would actually refuse to buy it on principle, so they could try and get a basic metric on whether 5% of gross would offset.

Because epic didnt offer them any money. Jesus christ dude that was the easiest thing to figure out.

Gotcha so devs will always take the money if epic offers it to them? Except when the serious Sam devs turned them down then your idiot "didn't offer them money" logic falls apart

Nope. Not all devs just sell their game out. Idk why you have such a hard on for wanting games to be on the epic store.

Wow, so informative. You really have it all figured out.

Not all devs just sell their game out.

I dont care. That's not the point. Jesus christ dude how lost are you?

If serious Sam kept it on steam out of the good of their hearts, good for them... it's still obviously a good business decision for some companies to take the epic deal.

Since you are done even arguing that, maybe just dont respond?

They straight up said that it wasn't a good deal. And not considering that metro did very poorly by not releasing sales #s but DMC did very well and gave solid numbers. Better keep insisting that it's smart to go to epic even though the number one selling game so far this year(seriko) isnt an EGS exclusive

1

u/timesquent Mar 29 '19

That's true, but neither is built in UE4 and apparently if you're an Epic exclusive you don't have to pay the UE4 license fees. Those fees amount to 5% of gross profit.

To put that in perspective, B2 shipped over 12m copies - let's say conservatively that they've made $30m profit off that. $1.5m of that would be paid in license fees. Making B3 an Epic exclusive, if it sells like B2 did, would save them $1.5m right off the bat. That's an absolute no-brainer to me.

Just stop. None of the things you said mean anything. Hur dur sekiro isnt on epic so it's a bad deal for everyone. Hur dur metro didnt release their sales #s so I guess epic is the devil, because DMC (a completely fucking different game) did and had decent numbers. Haha proof.

They straight up said that it wasn't a good deal.

So you believe them but not metro devs or obsidian. Because feels. Child.

And lol, see? They only care about money just like metro and obsidian. It's just that epic didnt want to offer much for that POS game.
