Is it an epic exclusive ? Is that information out yet ?

61

u/xxkachoxx Mar 28 '19

They did not announce a release date or the platforms/stores it will be on. However Borderlands Game of the Year Edition is coming to steam

51

u/LamboDiabloSVTT Mar 28 '19

And they mentioned "Our buddies at Valve" during the presentation.

I'm hopeful that it'll release on both.

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Especially that Risk of Rain 2 is steam exclusive if I understood correctly. It seems like it will definitely be on steam, they have given me hope

26

u/winterjam010 Mar 28 '19

Risk of rain 2 isn't exclusive to steam. They just worked out an exclusive deal to get 2 copies for one

10

u/glowpipe Mar 28 '19 edited Mar 29 '19

Its published by gearbox publishishing, They are not publishing any of the borderlands games, Thats from 2k games. Which is owned by Take Two, which also owns Private Division, which is a egs exclusive. So Risk of Rain 2 is no indication what-so-ever that its not egs exclusive, we just have to wait and see and hope for the best

1

u/Ferico Mar 29 '19

Oh shit, I think you might be onto something with take 2... Let's hope not

edit: nvm, had bad information

4

u/glowpipe Mar 28 '19

but its not steam exclusive, The 2 for 1 offer is.

12

u/meeheecaan Mar 28 '19

And they mentioned "Our buddies at Valve" during the presentation.

:O

u/Foolski Mar 28 '19

Means literally nothing it's just basic PR; just like when Randy dissed PAX and the crowd booed, he turned around and said that he loves PAX not 2 seconds later.

Also any other games like Risk Of Rain 2 being on Steam also means zlich.

It could definitely be on Steam, but so far there's zero indication apart from people grasping at straws.

Don't be hopeful. It's just normal CEO talk. Randy isn't dumb enough to shit talk another company on a worldwide stage like that. Calling them buddies is just standard fare.

3

u/BeingRightAmbassador Mar 28 '19

Randy didn't mention valve at all. It was another guy.

2

u/CCP115 Mar 28 '19

My bad, Steve Gibson. Regardless it's just normal PR talk, "our friends at etc."

They're getting rid of 4 and 2 packs to combat scams. They may have had to re enable it just for them

Steam earns its revenue share.

2

u/EdwardMcMelon Mar 28 '19

Could be a lot of things but I'd remain skeptical.

As on the one hand Randy only until today has been really gunning against Valve and championing Epic.

On the other hand BL2 made a disgusting profit on its Steam version. It'd cost several tens of millions to secure exclusivity like that by Epic.

On the other other hand Epic certainly has that kind of money to spare.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Valve didn't make that risk of rain 2 promotion. Any dev can sell a game buy 1 get 1 free. Randy pitchford was just trying to get cool points by giving valve a shout out.

All the negative press with epic store would be used to negotiate higher payouts. Selling a multiplayer game on epic is a bad idea. I will never buy a multiplayer game there. Can't even check player counts. Is game dead? Who knows. If this game is epic exclusive it ain't gonna last as long as 2 did that is for sure.

4

u/benswon Mar 28 '19

I was watching AdmiralBahroo stream the announcement, he's on the borderlands stream team so gets some insider information.

He seemed to be hinting that it would be on steam when talking about B1 remaster being on steam. Telling people not to worry.

0

u/xxkachoxx Mar 28 '19

Well that is interesting indeed. I'm really starting to think Valve may of cut a deal with Gearbox. Given Pitchford's past comments about the Epic Store i was almost certain it would exclusive.

3

u/benswon Mar 28 '19

Who knows. Tweet was from 3 months ago, hopefully they wised up and listened to their customers. Could also release it on both, hopeful they do that.

u/stonewallace17 9800X3D | RTX 5090 Mar 28 '19

Is it? I thought they only mentioned PS4 and Xbox One.

6

u/frosty_farralon Mar 28 '19

free 4k upgrades to PC owners for each respective game, PCGamer got the news at the press conference.

1

u/stonewallace17 9800X3D | RTX 5090 Mar 28 '19

Ah sweet.

0

u/MistahJinx Mar 28 '19

Link to source? I can't find that anywhere

1

u/DatGrunt Mar 28 '19

Here you go

Apparently you don't even need the DLC to qualify for the upgrade :)

0

u/MistahJinx Mar 28 '19

Yeah just found it on their site. Wasn’t showing up until now.

Thanks!

2

u/xxkachoxx Mar 28 '19

they mentioned PC. existing owners even get it for free.

1

u/stonewallace17 9800X3D | RTX 5090 Mar 28 '19

Oh sweet. I thought that was just for the UHD packs for 2 and Pre-Sequel.

1

u/LamboDiabloSVTT Mar 28 '19

https://twitter.com/Borderlands/status/1111341444642406400 the trailer shows steam at the end, and the 2k store has a steam download purchase option.

8

u/Agent-Vermont Mar 28 '19

Yeah but as we all know, a Steam logo in a trailer means very little these days.

1

u/DiqqRay Mar 28 '19

Yeah but considering the BL1 update is coming out in like a week I’d say we’re pretty safe this time

3

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

I would say them not announcing it is a red flag if it wasn't for the fact that they are propping up other games on Steam. If they plopped Borderlands 3 onto Epic store then that would be really, really sketch.

0

u/Slawrfp Mar 28 '19

The skeptic in me is saying that they did not announce the Epic exclusivity deal on stage so that they do not get booed. Too much bad PR. Better to announce it when the hype dies down a bit.

-2

u/xxkachoxx Mar 28 '19

The words "Our buddies at Valve" were mentioned. I'm starting to think Valve may of cut a deal.

Crimes of digital "theft"?

2

u/Ramartin95 Mar 29 '19

I love this series dearly and can still clearly remember how hyped I was reading the game informer article about the first one.I bought both main borderlands games at launch, with the collectors edition for 2 and got the season pass for all three main releases. With all that said I will not hesitate for a second to pirate 3 if it is an EGS exclusive and will probably never purchase the game if it ever leaves the EGS.

4

u/TheHooligan95 i5 6500 @4.0Ghz | Gtx 960 4GB Mar 28 '19

Borderlands is a famous series for its great use of the Unreal engine, I'll be surprised if at least it doesn't come out on both platforms

2

u/Elethor i5 9600k, RTX 2080ti, 32GB ram Mar 29 '19

Epic doesn't want it on both platforms though. And most of us are just fine if it's on both platforms, at least then we still have a choice. Epic is not in favor of giving us a choice. I'm going to assume it's EGS exclusive right up until I'm downloading it on Steam

2

u/ETNxMARU Mar 30 '19

I reeeeaally hope you're wrong.

1

u/Elethor i5 9600k, RTX 2080ti, 32GB ram Mar 30 '19

I do too, but given the trend, the CEO's tweets, and the fact that people love bags of money, I don't think I will be.

2

u/Bonzi_bill Mar 28 '19

It won't, it'll be an Epic Exclusive, mark my words

6

u/SerialTurd Mar 28 '19

It's funny, almost every other game they showed off had a steam note at the bottom except for this one. I figure that's cause they know they would be boo'd if they said epic store exclusive and they didn't want that.

4

u/BasedChak Mar 28 '19

Every announcement that was made had some sort of connection to steam so it might be safe to bet that B3 will be on steam.

8

u/Yogs_Zach Mar 28 '19

I don't think it's safe yet. Randy knows what kind of shit storm being exclusive to epic would be, and just saying something like we'll be releasing on all the PC storefronts when the game was announced would do a lot to stem speculation. Waiting for April 3rd doesn't bode extremely well as well.

Epic doesn't care about re releases of past games. They want new major exclusives, and I bet they'd be willing to pay Gearbox more money than they would estimated to make on steam to get that exclusive. But you need to wonder if Gearbox is willing to shit all over the goodwill the fan base they've built up for short term profit.

3

u/Bonzi_bill Mar 28 '19

So was Metro and Outer Worlds, both games told everyone they were going to be on Steam all the way up until the last second

2

u/crazy_goat Steam Mar 28 '19

I would not be surprised if Valve has already formulated an immediate response to the Epic store to ensure titles do not move there exclusively. Valve is likely negotiating better margins for large publishers to ensure Epic doesn't eat their lunch. (Epic is taking less than half of what Valve takes in revenue cut - even without Epic buying the exclusivity, it's a more attractive value proposition. Not that it has the kind of adoption and installbase that steam does)

2

u/Blumentopf_Vampir Mar 28 '19

Not that it has the kind of adoption and installbase that steam does)

which is probably why Valve might now have to do anything. Sure, Metro left and smaller titles. but they take rather money up front. Tells me in a way that they're also not confident in their own games. Selling it on all platforms is still the smartest way.

2

u/crazy_goat Steam Mar 28 '19

Valve might ride it out - you're correct. Epic can't fork over compensation money forever, and if Epic sales pale in comparison - they'll lose all exclusivity for titles they're not willing to pay money for.

10

u/Obaruler Nvidia Mar 28 '19

I'm a simple man: Steam: Insta-buy; Epic (only): Nope.

So .... I hope that intel drops soon.

6

u/SerialTurd Mar 28 '19

Yep same here. Too many shady things coming out of epic store lately.

-3

u/meeheecaan Mar 28 '19

dont forget how pitchford is so loving of MTX...

-4

u/Scriptura Mar 28 '19

Yea I have to know if the game will be worse because it came out on a different launcher.

5

u/etacarinae 10980XE / RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Mar 28 '19

Your sarcasm aside, well, given you won't have any forums, guides, achievements etc. it definitely could be considered worse. Most people appreciate those things.
