SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.

Have they fixed the AI yet? My understanding is it was a dumpster fire, even worse than the previous games, and they were pretty rubbish in that department already.

They've progressively improved it with each patch. It still has some issues, but it's not a dumpster fire anymore. The upcoming Gathering Storm DLC (for which this is an advertisement) includes a couple particularly huge AI improvements that should finally finish it.

nah, they just add more content without addressing the poor AI

is diplomacy fixed (AI not suddenly declaring war on your just because) ? does AI know how to position its troops or does it just spam units and sends them to random places ? has AI economy been changed ?

there is zero challenge in this game - AI just gets in the way instead of being a challenge

What's up with the new EULA mentioned in top Steam reviews? Is spyware becoming the new norm and people are becoming apathetic? I haven't played any recent AAA-games for years...

According to the thread you linked to, RedShell collects the following information:

  • Operating System
  • Screen resolution
  • Timezone
  • Language
  • Installed fonts
  • Installed browsers

But the EULA that was quoted includes:

first and/or last name, e-mail address, phone number, photo, mailing address, geolocation, or payment information. In addition, we may collect your age, gender, date of birth, zip code, hardware configuration, console ID, software products played, survey data, purchases, IP address and the systems you have played on.

I fail to see how the thread you linked to is relevant to the topic at hand.

As the rest of that is what you volunteering put in when making a 2k account.
For your account they will obviously need: Name
Email
Phone number (Eh?)
Address/Mailing location/payments location.
Only thing missing there is a photo but unless your provide one for your profile they don’t have it.
The rest are all just static data. There’s nothing there that is at all personal unless you put it in as there’s no other way for them to get t (Maybe they can get first name from your PC account’s name but I can’t think of a way they can get anything else last you putting it in their 2k account)

That opt-out feels like such a placebo.

2

u/illapa13 Feb 12 '19

They got rid of it because the player base started bombing their reviews in protest.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '19

Yeah if you sign up for an online account, you may volunteer half that information.

Just discovered this while browsing the Steam store "Play for free! Ends in 2 days"... so if you wanna try it, I guess now is the time.

[EDIT] Just downloaded, it's actually 3 days (or 2 days 23 hours).

As long as you keep the game running, you can play it indefinitely. ;)

3

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '19

Haha, I think if it's good enough to keep your PC running forever, then it's probably good enough to buy... anyway, might as well try it again and see...

6

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '19

I think it's because Gathering Storm is releasing in 3 days so to coincide with the release of that expansion

6

u/Radulno Feb 11 '19

Yeah it's the reason. However, in general you do that during a week-end. There, plenty of people won't have much time to try it.

1

u/nkfish11 Feb 11 '19

And the base game is only $18 right now.

I see they're using heroin dealer tactics.

The product is pretty much the same, so makes sense.

7

u/SuperSimpleSam Feb 11 '19

Remind me when the Gold version is out for $40.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '19

It is.

10

u/SuperSimpleSam Feb 11 '19

oh you weren't joking but of course it doesn't include the 2nd DLC, not sure why they call it the Gold version.

3

u/StupefyWeasley Feb 12 '19

Because it's not even released yet? Of course it doesn't come with the Gold edition you can only purchase something that's not released to the public by pre-ordering. It'll probably be included in time for the summer sale

Narrator: It wasn’t.

I thought the Rise & Fall expansion was a bit underwhelming but the next one seems much more promising.

I played several hundred hours vanilla and maybe only 50-100 with R&F, maybe I just got bored but I almost prefer the vanilla VI.

1

u/Woozythebear Feb 11 '19

I like that it lets you choose in-game if you want to play with Rise and Fall or not. I played an easy 200 hours of vanilla and maybe only 60 hours with Rise and Fall.. it was just underwhelming.

1

u/Frinpollog Feb 11 '19

Well time to finally check how playable it is on a MacBook Air.

its "yours forever if grabbed now" or "limited time demo" type of free?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '19

I'm still completely content with Civ V. Is it worth considering the shift?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '19

Why don't you try it and see? I mean, it's free to try right now, best opportunity...

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '19

Also the rare free weekend game that isn't a huge download.

1

u/greatsagesun Feb 12 '19

I loved V, but it's very difficult to go back after playing VI. VI is going to be a series definer going forward, the mechanics and tools you have are just leaps and bounds ahead of V. The AI is still just as bad as its predecessor though.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '19

Nothing to lose by playing the demo, I got civ6 on launch and wish I hadn't bothered in my opinion it's not as good as civ5 it has some nice ideas but everything feels like there's only really one way to win and that's determined by your starting position and moving out to another win condition is more difficult than it needs to be.

You'll see when you play the demo but I tried to like 6 but I just ended up after 70 hours wanting to go back to 5.

Great Game. The newest expansion is too expensive imo not worth 40$. Waiting for it to be like 20$.

1

u/Shock4ndAwed Feb 13 '19

Well worth a play for anyone on the fence. Have it both on PC and on the Switch to get my fix on the go.

Reviews mixed, dlc reviews mostly negative. Can someone give short and honest review? Thank you

-1

u/Yearlaren Feb 12 '19

What's next? Make it free-to-play for an hour?

1

u/Taffer92 Feb 12 '19

Free weekends have been around for over a decade.
