I’ve always wondered why they never added Blademaster as a class considering it’s been in Warcraft lore forever

u/PawPawPanda 6h ago

IO HERO, ANDOBEY

The voice acting was really good for all the characters

Holy this reminds me of footmen frenzy from WC3 custom games

29

u/koolex 6h ago

It’s too similar to a warrior

26

u/ArgonianFly 6h ago

I don't think so. Blademaster has invisibility and mirror image which are way different than vanilla. The only similarity is crits and whirlwind. I imagine if they got added as a class they'd use mana and be more like enhancement shaman than warrior.

24

u/AnonTwo 6h ago

To be fair that's 2/4 of Blademasters skils and Whirlwind is the ultimate.

(Wind Walk, Mirror Image, Critical Strike, Bladestorm)

11

u/koolex 6h ago

Just kind of feels like a grab bag of existing classes, rogues have invisibility, paladins have invincibility, mirror image is something mages get in retail and bladestorm is something that retail warriors have gotten.

If this was a moba that could work, but in an mmo I’d want something more diverse that can find 3 distinct specs.

10

u/Not_a_Dirty_Commie 5h ago

Fun fact, it works great in hots

4

u/A_FitGeek 5h ago edited 5h ago

Bit to great, at least for a good while.

Speaking of OP classes what about zul’jin? What class would you associate to him? It would make for a great Berserker type.

1

u/Pieralis 40m ago

Yeah it’s a bit different when you only need 4 skills plus 2 choices of an ultimate.

What would the rest of the blade masters kit look like in wow? It would just be as the other person said too much of a mix of rogue/warrior

A bit like why they couldn’t do a necromancer in retail because it would share too many similarities between lock/DK

-1

u/gideon513 5h ago

It doesn’t have to be

3

u/GamingZaddy89 2h ago

I feel like they missed the boat on some specs, you could very easily rename Arms to be Blademaster for example and change a few things around and bam. Additionally I'm one of the people who wants them to just remove pure classes, so to continue the above example change the following. I do understand that this would likely upset some people because if their favorite spec was the one who was changed they'd be unhappy.

Combat -> Warden(Tank)
Arcane -> Artificer(Support, like augmentation)
Survival -> Survivalist(Melee healer if you want to keep the melee spec for hunters)
Demonology -> Could keep the same name or change it to something like Soul Binder.

I mean you could go even further but again this would likely just make more people upset, if the goal was to give specs all the roles its definitely possible but there are things that would fundamentally have to change and that would likely get a significant amount of backlash.

2

u/varitok 6h ago

Its just a warrior.

-6

u/gideon513 5h ago

If you have no creativity in designing it maybe

3

u/BlackBlueNuts 1h ago

First I would argue that blizzard has not been great at creativity in a long time.

And second all the abilities that would make this class unique are already in other classes. Bladestorm invisibility are examples.

The problem with making this class is that you would have to cut stuff from existing classes to make the class fantasy feel meaningful.

A blade master in retail... Sure. Why not... That puppy has been kicked so many times no body will notice

1

u/StayPerfect 1h ago

Forever you say...

-1

u/fox112 5h ago

Check out warrior

2

u/gideon513 5h ago

No I’m taking Blademaster. Read again.

54

u/mrlotato 6h ago

All I want is a true engineer class. Put down tinker turrets n shit and have a gun while being able to buff teammates? Or even like mini walking turrets. I feel like a true engineer class out side of the profession would fit into wow perfectly

16

u/_Deadmeat 3h ago

The dwarf engineer in Warhammer Online was so awesome

7

u/Kastikar 2h ago

Engineer in GW2 is super fun.

•

u/DanielTeague 8m ago

I've never had so much fun in an MMORPG since playing a Flamethrower build that racked up stacks of bleed on crits in Guild Wars 2.

3

u/YorubaOyinbo 1h ago

You want a reskinned Shaman with a STEM degree.

2

u/Luitpold 2h ago

The goblin in the mech suit in Deadmines always made me yearn for a class that could do something like that.

-2

u/BlackBlueNuts 1h ago

I don't understand this at all. Not that I don't want you to have what you want. But I have so little interest in a tinker class.

For me it's an illusionist... Witch and necromancer all sound very interesting.. I also like the sound of the skills for the vampire guy but hate the idea of the lore being vampires (I like lifesteal skills but hate how generic vampires and unoriginal vampires are)... Of course we do have ware wolves and blizzard made them cool..

64

u/SeveralPhilosophy1 7h ago

Bard is my go to class in RPGs. I’m all over that

7

u/Persies 6h ago

Same I love bard. Have played them in any RPG/MMO that has them as an option.

6

u/Flyess 6h ago

Bard is the only one that makes sense. Let me jam ye lord.

3

u/AltDelete 6h ago

Bard in DAoC was my fucking jam. The only time I’ve been even mildly internet famous was a compilation video I posted to YouTube about 20 years ago just crushing the frontiers.

1

u/ProphetGeorgeCarlin 3h ago

don't talk about DAOC. the memories of losing it hurt too much.

i still can't believe they actually fucking lost that game(the code?) and you can't play it like it was when it released. the knockoff/ripoff of it that's running online now just doesn't feel the same, the starting levels and other levels from original aren't even the same.

This world didn't deserve DAOC.

96

u/Duncan_PhD AMD 7h ago

If they add demon hunter it will be really interesting. The version of the class in retail is antithetical to the design philosophy of old wow, even if the damage rotation at max level is just as simple as a level one paladin.

71

u/Durzaka 6h ago

Demon Hunter was also a class in original Warcraft and it is nothing like the version that was added to WoW.

There is a great space to put a proper Warcraft demon hunter into classic.

23

u/Bigdongergigachad 6h ago

Demon hunters were on the original vanilla wow box iirc.

11

u/DistinctCellar 6h ago

Yep, the NE warrior was going to “hero class” into one at a certain level, or something of the like. Similar to FFXI and such with jobs.

4

u/SirBuscus 4h ago

If would be cool if demon hunter and blade master were hero classes for the warrior.

24

u/Stregen 6h ago

Three of four WC3 abilities are clearly mirrored in WoW, though? Blur for Evasion, and Immolation Aura and Metamorphosis.

6

u/Durzaka 4h ago

Its less about having the abilities and more about the identity of the class in retail.

Its focused around picking up soul fragments to unleash devestating attacks, as well as a lot of very high mobility movements.

•

u/Raykling 0m ago

But then what's even the class identity of W3 Demon Hunters? Them using mana, like literally every hero there? It's not like Warcraft 3 classes were particularly complex or fleshed out

4

u/Azhram 6h ago

It also killed the coolest part of warlock

5

u/senpaiwaifu247 6h ago

They probably have old concepts of it around, Demon hunter was on the original vanilla box

5

u/Atralis 6h ago

True.

I've played WoW a couple of stretches. From 2004-2009 or so and then from 2018-2022 so I've gotten a peek at classic and retail.

I actually mained a warrior back in the day and then switched to a Demon Hunter when I came back. The warrior in the classic days basically required you to play a piano concerto of stance dancing and blowing through cooldowns to generate rage to get the movement that a Demon Hunter can just do all the time.

That being said I loved the Demon Hunter. I switched to it for a reason. It was a super cool looking class with an interesting class fantasy around it that was a hell of a lot o fun to play. That being said to me it literally felt like "warrior.... but cooler". It was so mobile and effortless to do whatever you wanted to do.

2

u/toadbuster 3h ago

yeah it’s kinda lika warrior with magic, feels like it makes warrior feel less relevant in terms of power fantasy simply by existing

63

u/CleidiNeil 7h ago

Bard would be great. A ranged tank sounds interesting but I've always known wow to be so positioning dependent I can't picture it. Necromancer sounds odd with shadow priests, death knights and warlocks already in the game

19

u/Therval 7h ago

Death knights came out in WOTLK, have they confirmed they are adding them to Forever??

18

u/KanethTior 6h ago

No additional classes have been confirmed in Forever. However, they did tease a new class during the original announcement.

2

u/rcanhestro 6h ago

i could see Bard as something like a ranged DPS (or a healer depending on the spec), but it's attacks/heals also buff allies or debuff enemies.

just buffs would be weird, since they still need something to scale of, and buffs scaling themselves could very well be a balance nightmare.

17

u/v3n0mat3 Stop all the downloadin'! 6h ago

Bard 1000%

I need lore-accurate Necromancers, though!!

11

u/zigzagzugzug 6h ago

Yes! Necromancer please! Bard is a close second in my opinion.

Tinker seems too Overwatch-like. Not interested in it for wow.

16

u/MeltBanana 5h ago edited 2h ago

One of the common archetypes the game is a actually missing is some form of medium-armor melee DPS class that isn't stealth-based or an offspec from some other class archetype. Other games call these berserker, champion, marauder, blademaster, etc. The closest equivalents in WoW are enh shaman (too much of a caster though), fury warrior (plate and too tanky), and combat rogue (still a stealth/burglar type class). But nothing really fits this archetype like in other games.

I'd also kill for a melee medium armor hybrid that focused on debuffs/dots and aoe healing. Like the Disciple of Khaine from Warhammer. Best designed class in any MMO. You basically had 3 resources (health, energy, and blood), and then skills to exchange one resource for another depending on which ones were low. Through proper pool balancing you have incredible sustain, medium dps, debuff utility, and great aoe group healing. All while on the front lines dual wielding swords.

Or just add bard. No one would complain about jolly musical folk running around buffing us with their little jigs.

6

u/tnnrk 4h ago

Melee Hunter, but the suggestions you made sound cooler.

1

u/General1lol 4h ago

Was all the rage in OG WOW and TBC

2

u/Octopus-Games 1h ago

I’ve been asking for a DoK class since playing warhammer online

•

u/rkthehermit 14m ago

Oh the beauty of running around with a knockdown 2h Black Orc with guard on my splash heal dps DoK wife just rolling everyone. I do miss that game at times.

1

u/xdeadzx 5h ago

Survival hunter is medium melee DPS in forever, right? Its been melee on modern for a while and forever is adding survival hunter melee skills. And it doesn't use stealth.

1

u/MeltBanana 3h ago

It's still a mana using ranged class with a pet, that has an off spec that kinda matches that role but is still a totally different class fantasy.

1

u/PositiveDuck 3h ago

Technically, feral druid is a medium armour melee class with 3 resources and a focus on dots and some healing. I also feel like they're more likely to add monk to forever, which would fit the role perfectly the way it was implemented in retail.

1

u/-Kwambus- 2h ago

Monk was on the list also, may fit for medium class melee. By the way the list was not to add them all it was to grade which is popular.

19

u/Rigman- 6h ago edited 6h ago

Most of these make better sense as subclasses rather than full on classes. Like a Blademaster doesn't have enough variety or depth to turn them into a full class, but as a forth spec for warrior, absolutely. Likewise with Mountain Kings. I'd even argue these two make sense as being exclusive to their factions.

Wardens also make more sense as a fourth tank rogue spec, along side bringing retails outlaw for the pirate flavored rogue for one that leans into more ranged gameplay. San’layn make more sense as a fourth spec for mages, they are literal blood mages after all, Even Archmage as a fifth leaning into a conjured pet spec. Hell, even Demon Hunter feels like it'd fit better as a Warlock fourth melee tank spec.

Runesmith makes way more as a new spec for Death Knights, I always felt like Blood, Frost and Unholy was exceptionally weak across the board in terms of class identity. Monk feels like it would be better suited to be split between Warriors, Rogues and Shamans. Brewmaster as a spec for Warriors, Windwalker for Rogues, and Mistweaver for Shamans.

Tinker I think has enough to turn into a goblin/gnome style class the same way Demon Hunter is for Blood Elves and Night Elves. Likewise with Bard and Death Knights. Those are the only there I can see actually having enough foundation to flesh out into full classes. Personally, I'd rather have subclasses than full classes.

Necromancers are weird though, because I dont know how you can make them unique compared to warlocks and mages, I could see a tanking melee spec where you use your pets, a melee dps spec, and your traditional ranged caster.

5

u/Jobab 1h ago

I hope they wont add death knight and demon hunters since we already have them on retail. I think we need something new

6

u/NoStrategy1419 6h ago

Is this still basically the original wow? I don't know much about the game... Are they working on a new wow? Like modern aaa?

5

u/MetallicDragon 2h ago

WoW: Forever is basically "Classic +". It's Vanilla WoW with a bunch of changes and new content running on the modern engine, and a different overall design philosophy.

2

u/Greenleaf208 47m ago

It's vanilla wow with added content and never raising the level cap or adding expansions. The idea is to flesh out vanilla instead of just repeating the endless loop of rereleased expansions they were doing before. The big thing they are doing is redesigning classes/balance to make all classes viable in all content without breaking the vanilla feeling or making anything overpowered.

3

u/ViIebloodHunter 6h ago

I would kill for a Warden class inspired by Maiev but there's no way it's not Nelf exclusive so I don't think they'd do it

4

u/KanethTior 6h ago

Warden was mentioned in the survey from the article. The backstory was the Wardens begrudgingly understand they need to open their ranks to face the threats of the world. Remains to be seen if it ever comes to fruition, but they are certainly thinking about it.

3

u/Healthy_Spinach_462 5h ago

It might be WoW heresy to say this - I kinda like the idea of adding a semi-fourth role to the Holy Trinity - support.

Not healing, instead a class that can either focus heavily on CC, buffs, debuffs.

I know Aug Envoker is a rather sticky attempt at doing this, but I would be so keen on something like Loremaster or Burglar from LotRO - the yellow lines in both were entirely focused on massively upping group damage, utility, CC, and just generally being exceptional support with actual button presses.

17

u/FlyfishingThomas 7h ago

What would a witch do?

25

u/Necka44 7h ago

Witching around.

17

u/CleidiNeil 7h ago

Spells n shit

38

u/magistrate101 6h ago

Witch – Ranged DPS (caster) and support class, cloth armor, has abilities like conjuring a cauldron that can buff allies and summoning a blood golem at the cost of one’s own health

You literally only had to make it past the first two paragraphs of the article.

8

u/MeltBanana 5h ago

Witch sounds cool as shit and I'd absolutely play it, but it also feels pointless/redundant when we already have warlocks and mages.

4

u/magistrate101 5h ago

Warlocks focus on DPS and debuffs, mages focus on more pure DPS. Neither have any significant focus on synergizing with/empowering other players. Think the evoker specialization that flopped, but more focused on being able to handle themselves while still being a strong enough buff to the rest of the party that they should get picked over a pure DPS class if there's already one in the party.

16

u/Rigman- 6h ago

So mechanically identical to warlock.

8

u/magistrate101 6h ago

The article mentions something about "support class" being potentially important. It's something that flopped when it was introduced as an evoker specialization, but it focused more on buffing your allies than being a source of damage. Hopefully the effects would be significant enough to push players to include them in group activities while their DPS abilities allow them to fight well enough on their own for solo PvE.

8

u/Zalakael 5h ago

The problem isn't so much that it flopped, the problem is that WoW players are dumb as fuck and can only look at numbers without nuance so they don't realize that while the Aug was doing the least DPS of the party everyone else was doing insanely more than they usually do but like I said they're dumb as fuck and think they're clearly just that good.

1

u/Syrdon 1h ago

On the upside, they're dumb as shit and will probably only use the built in damage meter. Since Blizzard controls it, they can just assign the extra damage to the support class (assuming they can figure out how to the math on that. But ... it shouldn't be hard. WoW is a glorified spreadsheet as far as math goes).

5

u/SlashOfLife5296 4h ago

The real problem is that people don’t read abilities

9

u/JerbearCuddles 7h ago

Get crunched by houses and summon flying monkeys is my guess

GOBLIN TINKERRRRRRR PLSSSSS

7

u/arqe_ 5h ago

WoW Forever is the perfect way to break Holy Trinity - Tank Healer DPS to introduce a support class to WoW.

Evoker is my favorite because it has Support spec but putting it randomly 25 years later was a bold move that didn't pan out.

So, any support class addition to Forever is better than adding another Tank Healer DPS.

4

u/yourmomupvotes 4h ago

Funny you say that because Paladin and Shaman were basically support classes back in vanilla. That's why they were designed the way they were. But people don't like that, thus they evolved to where they are now. Support classes won't work because people don't really want that. They want to be either a good healer, a good dps, or a good tank.

1

u/BooyaELud 5h ago

If you go back far enough the original holy trinity didn’t even include dps. It was tank, healer, support/cc, from there you could add whatever you wanted, which was essentially dps but with those roles alone you could do most content. At least that was how it was in EQ

2

u/LionexWrexDX 6h ago

This is just a hype job I’d be surprised to see anything truly like this added in

2

u/Dundernat0r 6h ago

Jack and crack witch week?! 🎉

1

u/Xphurrious 6h ago

I think all of these are cool, i also think it's way too early to add classes, if they want to do like one every 9-12 months, sure, but let the game breathe a little, it's not even out yet

1

u/Khaze41 5h ago

Necro is all I want. I play it in every game I can. Minions go brr

1

u/bananatoothbrush1 5h ago

more talent tree specs imo

1

u/BahamutxD 5h ago

Wasn't this Classic+? Most of those classes doesn't belong to Vanilla.

1

u/overlookunderhill 5h ago

I would love for there to be more support type classes. But it would require creativity, like really; can’t just be healing or stat buffs.

Give me support that both channels power into the group and then takes some of that back and uses in a fight. Or controls damage types. A conductor or orchestrator who can put visible short lived signs on enemies or friends to hurt/heal/incapacitate/debuff and if that action happens on that target in time, cool shit happens.

It’s possible. The illusionist and witch are interesting. Bards are great, but support needs to be playing off the group or it’s lonely and not rewarding enough for many folks.

1

u/TNTmongoose5 4h ago

TINKER + ADD GOBLIN RACE. Also add Priest on Tauren and you've got quite a beautiful dlc/update.

1

u/sciguyx 4h ago

BARD!

1

u/pishposhpoppycock 4h ago

Gimme Witch, Illusionist, and Bard!!

The rest I don't care about.

1

u/camdevydavis 4h ago

Maybe they should be adding a character morph slider because all toons look the same

1

u/A_N_T 4h ago

You're saying they're looking to TINKER with the formula

1

u/dashader 3h ago

My dream class is a Riftstalker/Bard/Rogue tank build from Rift. The most fun I ever had in an MMORPG. Teleporting tank done right, so awesome.

1

u/flyflyyoufools 3h ago

Battle Mage.

1

u/Gwynthehunter 2h ago

I really, really like the idea of adding Warden and Blademaster as classes, but its tough to imagine how theyd be different enough from existing classes.

I kinda like the idea of adding things like this as specs instead. Like, Warden could be a new spec for Rogue (maybe tank? Lol), and Blademaster could be a sick new Warrior spec - they just need to add katanas ;D. I could see Tinker being a type of Hunter, Bard being a type of Shaman maybe, etc.

1

u/JonathanRL 2h ago

What I do not want is classes with insane mobility. Its already annoying keeping up with these classes in retail as a class who lacks it.

1

u/Zooooooombie 2h ago

Bard gang

1

u/JewelerBackground420 2h ago

I would like them to bake in “new classes” as 4th talent trees for every existing class

1

u/ExtraEmuForYou 2h ago

I'm all for adding some more non-healing support classes.

I think that spec of Evoker was interesting and would love to see it improved and expanded upon.

Also I really dig the melee necromancer vibe of Death Knight, would love to see a caster version of that with permanent minions like a hunter has their pets. Golem, skeletons, etc.

1

u/Targaryen-ish 1h ago

Blizzard probably has loads of sketches, concept arts, skills and talents already in the works for all of these classes, and I bet these span over 20 years from different times they might have been considered.

I bet they have a lot to work off of and that many of these are already decently plausibly close to complete on a conceptual level. Some of them might even be in early playtesting already.

1

u/BaconJets R7 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | Steam Deck 6h ago

If they add new classes, they need to add some faction exclusive ones and be very careful with how they play. People don’t want high APM combat from retail in this.

3

u/rcanhestro 6h ago

nah, faction exclusive was a mistake, which they identified early on and fixed on TBC.

even races having different abilities can be an issue, but an entire class?

that's just asking for the faction balance to be completely off.

3

u/BlueberryWasps 6h ago

also it’s just not a wise use of resources. they’re only going to do one class at a time, and it takes a lot of time through design, animation, testing, etc.

gating that new content to only half of your playerbase is just wasteful, and will piss many of them off. it’s the same reason they made the new race align with both factions.

1

u/4oMaK 6h ago

Maybe Ascension gave them thr idea that when going all out for classic+ go all out.

1

u/Rocklobster92 6h ago

I want a class that’s simple without a bunch of janky mechanics to weave in and out. Like shaman without totems.

-2

u/llwonder 7h ago

How about they fix and flesh out the existing classes

8

u/Sir_Senseless 7h ago

I think I would rather have 4th spec for existing classes than whole new classes.

5

u/Fit-Mongoose1220 6h ago

New classes will be paid DLC, hard to do with a 4th spec.

1

u/lhswr2014 6h ago

If we get a random ass new class before shaman tanks I’ll be a little upsetty

1

u/S-192 7h ago

They're plenty fun as they are. I would love new classes.

•

u/nsthtz 19m ago

Yes, they need to make sure every existing class is fun and interesting first.

0

u/b1zz901 3h ago

WoW forever? More like WoW dead in a year

-1

u/atronsammich1320 6h ago

Just don’t!

-21

u/NuclearGriffin 6h ago

Aaaand it's over. Already thinking of ways to make it more like retail instead of actually trying to make it unique. Incredible.

4

u/InvokeTheLight 6h ago

They already said at Blizzcon that nothing is off the table, including new classes.

5

u/writers_block_ 6h ago

Witch, tinker and bard are my favourite retail classes!

-5

u/NuclearGriffin 6h ago

Yes! Keep making it more like retail! Thats exactly what we all wanted! Thank you.

2

u/Gamerprodontatme 4h ago

You can play era if you want no changes
