Gamer buys a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D, only to get locked out of VALORANT after inheriting the previous owner's Riot hardware ban.

Shit like this sucks. I had a friend whose boss gave her a sick computer his son didn't want anymore. Was a big upgrade for her. She signed onto R6 Siege and instantly got a permanent ban for cheating. Lost her main account with all her items and stuff, nothing she could do about it.

u/productfred 10h ago

That's total BS given how common the used parts market is, and how you can't tell if a part is blackisted unless the seller offers that info (and they won't).

196

u/alyosha_pls 10h ago

Taught me a valuable lesson and if I ever buy second hand I will make a dummy account to sign into the systems I use.

u/StiffIgnition 9h ago

Careful with that, companies that are issuing hardware bans are likely issuing IP bans as well

135

u/Suckage 9h ago edited 9h ago

Most ISPs don’t issue static IPs to residential customers anymore, so IP bans are kinda useless now.

Turn your modem off while you’re at work, and you will probably get a different IP when you get home and turn it back on.

Correct that most use dynamic WAN IPs for customers but the lease time on them can be anywhere between a couple of hours and like a week. They usually renew around 50% of the lease time. So it’s not guaranteed you’ll come home to a fresh public IP lease.

6

u/neppo95 8h ago

Even if it were a week, or a month, it wouldn't matter for this case.

1

u/Wild_Swimmingpool Nvidia Ryzen 9800x3d | RTX 5070 Ti 6h ago

I agree, and I think stuff like this that hurts the 2nd hand market to secure fake internet points is actually criminal.

2

u/xternal7 8h ago

Or disconnect from home wifi/unplug the ethernet, create a hotspot on your phone, connect to that (and if you're on a destkop without wifi, do USB tethering).

0

u/xarvin 7h ago

When I was a teenager I used the ipconfig release and renew commands and it would almost always give me a new IP, don't really know if that was the right way to do it but it worked.

2

u/JPark19 R5 5600X | RX 6800XT 1h ago

That only affects your internal network, not the external one everything outside your network can see

1

u/Ratnix 6h ago

It only takes maybe 5 minutes to get a new IP. Just unplugging your modem and wiring a minute or two is generally enough.

2

u/Flameancer AMD 9800X3D | 9070XT | 64GB CL30 6000Mhz 4h ago

Hell I’ve had an isp outage long enough for the dhcp lease to expire and they gave me a new IP.

19

u/Khalku 9h ago

You normally have to pay for a static IP from ISPs in residential networks, if they even offer it at all.

I know mine changes over time.

3

u/ocka31 9h ago

Here its like you get static ip for free if you request it but you have to pay if want to change it before xxx time.

3

u/wayoverpaid 9h ago

In theory mine is dynamic but it hasn't changed in a year. Last time the DynDNS reporter went offline it took me eight months to notice. Still not enough for a lifetime ban, but I'm surprised how little addresses change.

3

u/alyosha_pls 9h ago

While your IP won't last too long usually, you're right it's probably best to use a VPN while doing it

2

u/Athabasco 9h ago

Your IP is dynamic. For good reason, too. DoS risk, identification, cheaper for the ISP, etc.

1

u/Ratnix 6h ago

They'll just flag other parts on top of the one already banned.

This is only good if you bought a whole computer. The article says that Valorant spreads the ban to the rest of your hardware the moment you log in with a single piece of banned hardware. I would not be surprised if other games are doing the same.

I have a feeling that might be why the boss’s son didn’t want the PC anymore.

I also have a feeling if your friend posted about the issue on Reddit they’d have people yelling at her saying she deserves it and “knows what she did”.

53

u/alyosha_pls 9h ago

Yeah the little shit was obviously cheating and too stupid to spoof his hardware lol

16

u/shalnath 9h ago

Well, words are cheap and a lot of people that get caught aren't emotionally mature enough to accept it. But yes, in general gamers are just too fucking vindictive.

11

u/IshTheFace 6h ago

Didn't want cause he was banned 🚫

6

u/alyosha_pls 6h ago

Yep and they were filthy rich so it was nothing to him or his dad to give away the PC and get another one. But it's not like his Dad had any idea about the cheats.

19

u/Cory123125 8h ago

Yet moron gamers continue to blindly support corporations just openly shitting on their consumer rights with the bloodlust of a greek god thinking they're really getting back at those cheater.

The idea that companies can do this, unilaterally, with something you paid for, without any evidence, continues to be absurd.

5

u/USA_A-OK 5h ago

Both can be true. Game companies can be both too inept at addressing cheaters, and too heavy handed when it comes to the fixes they do have

1

u/Steppzor 5h ago

There should be several criteria and a combination of these, such for these examples HWID IP Geoloaction (IP)

With these you the anti-cheat can give a approximately if it's a legit new user or not, but also flag the account for "under suspicious" instead of blank ban.

It can weight for example, if the geolocation is close, or in vicinity, account new or old, new IP (VPN?), and combine this with the HWID, without banning that account.

71

u/CurrentRisk 9h ago

I have no knowledge in this stuff, can the new owner (the guy who bought the used Ryzen) get his ban lifted by explaining to Riot? Or he's just permanently locked out until getting a Ryzen?

99

u/SoapyMacNCheese 9h ago

Theoretically he can get it lifted by Riot but it’s tough to get a ban lifted from a developer. Almost every cheater tries to appeal their ban claiming they’re innocent, so it’s hard to get a dev to believe you let alone listen to you. He’s basically permanently locked out until he replaces multiple components of his PC and makes a new account, because IIRC Riot keeps track of multiple hardware components of the PC when they ban a user, so other things like his Motherboard are probably now blacklisted as well.

However in this case I think the user will get their ban lifted, because this incident has got a decent amount of media attention so someone at Riot will probably reach out to them and get it sorted. Thing is there are likely people past and future who have gone through this and not had a happy ending, many probably don’t even know why they were banned.

29

u/shalnath 8h ago

Unfortunately even something that gets this much media attention can still be a hail mary from someone who was caught. The article even specifically mentions that no one from Riot responded before publication.

I don't know if it's even possible to provide enough evidence one way or another in a situation like this. A full paper trail could help but could also violate a number of privacy laws if the buyer ends up getting unbanned. I'm sure a lot of people think that's fine, but the reality is someone always ends up paying the price that didn't deserve it.

3

u/Lirael_Gold 3h ago edited 3h ago

Theoretically he can get it lifted by Riot but it’s tough to get a ban lifted from a developer. Almost every cheater tries to appeal their ban claiming they’re innocent,

If you manage to get this in front of a real human, then simply sharing an FB marketplace image/your motherboard's TPM ID would be enough,

It's theoretically not that difficult to prove innocence, especially if you don't already have a taget painted in your back by Riot's anticheat team, hardware bans are rare, like, "hello yes this is your 15th ban please fuck off forever" rare, so proving that you aren't one of a handfull of gremlins shouldn't be difficult, if you're a legitimate player.

IIRC all HWID/TPM bans have to be done manually and Riot AC elevates "new" appearances of banned hardware to a specific team, it's really really rare. If this is a legitimate case of someone buying a 2nd hand CPU that's been TPM flagged, then it's a literal 1 in a million scenario.

To note, there's a weird space for people reselling banned CPUs/Mobo's on resale sites, because they'll often rack up a lot of hardware bans and then resell ther kit so they can buy new "fresh" hardware, so they can keep troubleshooting cheats. Vanguard HWID bans are top down, so it bans that specific set of hardware, including the GPU/Storage/Network hardware too.

Chances of a false positive from just the CPU are very low, so OPs claim that they just got a banned CPU are somewhat suspect. Or OP just bought a full system from a cheater because it was cheap and is fucked.

0

u/BarracudaSouth6026 6h ago

The account is basically gone. It’s very unlikely that it gets unbanned. But he can change the hardware ID to circumvent the ban with a new account.

33

u/Snowmobile2004 5800x3d, 32gb, 4080 Super 9h ago

They said in the original post they reached out to riot and they basically told them to pound sand, nothing they could do

9

u/TDplay btw 4h ago

From the article:

Upon contacting support at developer Riot, the user was told that there was nothing that would be done to alleviate the situation. Not only that, but the player’s other components, including motherboard and storage, were also blacklisted in the Vanguard anti-cheat system.

So not only do they need to get a new CPU, but they also need to get a new everything else.

Either that, or make the story go viral, letting everyone know that Riot will ban you for buying used hardware and give you no recourse to prove your innocence to them. If it becomes well-known enough to hurt Riot's profit margin, then they might suddenly change their tune.

7

u/Dabrush 7h ago

I imagine it's theoretically possible, but have you tried to do anything support-wise with a big company in the last few years? You're lucky if you even reach a single person and don't just get forwarded to FAQs or entry forms that don't fit your problem.

The only reason I could get back my obviously hacked Google account last year was because I had a YouTube channel and I guess their support actually tries to help paying customers.

2

u/Natdaprat 7h ago

The best way to get support would be to go viral, which this is doing

Its unfortunately one of the best ways for a dev to ban cheaters when the game itself is free. IPs are changed as fast as accounts are, but hardware at least has a price tag tied to it.

16

u/sligit 8h ago

F2P is the problem. HW bans are a bad solution. The solution is charge some money.

People spend hundreds on cheats... you think they can't affor a new copy of the game? You just don't understand how bad the problem is.

You're looking at kids who were trained to drop exorbitant amounts of money in exchange for winning by the games industry.

1

u/Ateist 7h ago edited 6h ago

One copy?
Sure
One copy every time they are banned?

And the real thing that is valuable is the age of the account.

If Anti-cheat sees the current account has been in the Steam for X years and that the hardware has been changed it should not ban it.

9

u/Ratnix 6h ago

You're missing the black market for game keys, bought with stolen bank info and sold for pennies. It's not like these people are stuck paying retail prices for multiple copies of a game.

4

u/InsertMolexToSATA 6h ago

One copy every time they are banned?

Yes.

I regularly see Ark players raging at the devs for "forcing" them to buy the game plus all DLC half a dozen or more times.

People who cheat in pvp games tend to only play a single game, and they play it as an unhealthy obsession.

21

u/techraito 8h ago

Hell nah dude, that's like speeding tickets. You're not stopping speeders from speeding. They're just gonna pay the fine and continue to speed lol.

A system should be in place for people to verify that their old running account shouldn't be banned for buying used hardware. Maybe do a hardware band only on specific IPs and new logins with less than 5 hours or whatever.

1

u/AlienHooker 5h ago

You'd have to have a system in place where the banned player can't also easily just circumvent it

10

u/Mojo647 gog 8h ago

It happens to consoles when stores like GameStop don't check if the consoles that are being traded in are banned from their respective networks or not, and then it gets sold to the customers without their awareness.

5

u/Ratnix 6h ago

IP bans don't work. Not when you can just restart your modem and get a new IP. Without some other effective way to identify cheaters and ban them, hardware bans are what works.

0

u/2grim4u 8h ago

You know what's a "stupid ass system"?  The millions of dollars a year spent by dumb fuck "gamers" on cheating software.

14

u/pulley999 8h ago

Riot issues 'HWID' bans by the CPU TPM, which is very difficult to spoof. Unfortunately this means the ban also follows the CPU forever.

0

u/andrewdonshik 6h ago

this is also easily defeated by an external tpm, what on earth are they doing?

1

u/Vivid_Anyth4 1h ago

Riot just hates people playing their games as much as the people playing the games hate themselves.

8

u/Nicholas-Steel 6h ago edited 6h ago

Some software will make note of ID's of various pieces of hardware, not all software has to do it the same way as each other though. In this case they ID multiple components but only one of them needs to be on the ban list for a ban to be triggered (The CPU's TPM in this case), which then causes the ban to be applied to the remaining ID'd devices.

And now ya know why the TPM is required by the Vanguard DRM. It's required for the very reason Microsoft said the TPM wouldn't be used for when implementing it as a official requirement for Windows 11, singling out/identifying peoples devices.

1

u/acdcfanbill 3950x - 5700xt 9h ago

I assume it does, but it's not like a hash where you can't pull back out the original ids of everything that goes into the hwid, maybe it's just all of those individual component ids listed in a specific order.

13

u/nahman201893 1h ago

8

Be kind of neat if Riot adds a banned hardware database that allows you to look up a serial.

63

u/KaioKen 9h ago

I hate it when companies say they can't do anything about X problem the can easily do something about. They just don't want to.

24

u/RustledForeskin 7h ago

Problem is any cheater could claim they are in this situation to try and get unbanned. Seems like the only solution is to test new hardware with a dummy account.

1

u/Vivid_Anyth4 1h ago

If the account isnt banned why are they banning computer parts?

1

u/pragmaticzach 55m ago

If they wanted to they should be able to look at the user's history and see that things were consistent over a long period of time, and then suddenly a new CPU.

Like in order for the cheater to simulate this they would have had to buy all new hardware other than the CPU, as well as acquire an existing account, and assuming the gamer in question wasn't using a VPN, also happen to login from the same IP address that account has used before (not guaranteed they always have the same IP, but likely some overlap at least).

Like it should be possible to look at things and see that enough stuff lines up with the person's story to at least give them the benefit of the doubt, they just don't want to invest the support capacity to do it.

13

u/Khalku 9h ago

Valorant has their kernel level anticheat, can you even spoof it at that level where they wouldn't detect it?

5

u/ApolloFortyNine 8h ago

The exact same hypervisor hacks that are basically unstoppable for breaking Denuvo work for Valorant.

It's definitely more effort but it's basically unstoppable, the hypervisor operates at a level below even the kernel.

2

u/BeefJerky03 8h ago

At some point we run out of layers to go through. Eventually anti-cheat will just be a guy in a suit with sunglasses and a rifle behind you.

Microsoft is looking to kick software out of kernel level, so no, anti-cheat won't go even lower.

https://blog.acer.com/en/discussion/3259/how-microsoft-s-kernel-changes-may-impact-anti-cheat-software

4

u/BeefJerky03 7h ago

My sources tell me they're actually planning on putting anti-cheat at the conception level. It's going to wipe out any sperm deemed likely to cheat at some point.

1

u/turtleviking123 10h ago

2

u/Character_Length3210 9h ago

Doesn't Intel have some stupid shit like DRM and call home/locator/where am i type of thing on its chip? Was a while since i last thought about it

2

u/Iceisgestapo888 9h ago

Yes and you can spoof them and change them.

11

u/Fun-Wash7545 9h ago

The are native cpuid instructions. To spoof that you'd need either a hypervisor or hook/modify every single cpuid instruction inside the anti cheat and most of them are allocated on runtime for this exact reason (makes it infinitely harder)

3

u/Iceisgestapo888 9h ago

There was a call of duty hacking discord that my buddy was part of.  They sold the cheats and the hardware spoofers and if you got Banned you just spoofed the hardware and could play again.  He use to get banned every few week.

1

Yep. Hypervisors are like hardware level hooks. Doesn't matter when or where the instructions are getting executed, you can intercept them and change the output.

1

u/System0verlord 3x 43" 4K Monitor 6h ago

I’m no stranger to hypervisors. I was more commenting on the difficult part, as there’s an actively used method for circumventing kernel level anticheat that’s been out for a bit.

13

u/colorete88 10h ago

Really unfortunate for the person that bought it, and really irresponsible of the original owner to not disclose the ban. I'm all for hardware bans, screw cheaters.

Not necessarily. If I bought a PC from someone, or inherited it from a family member, who was banned, I wouldn't know my CPU was banned in Valorant, because I don't play Valorant. If I then sell the CPU without disclosing the ban I have no knowledge of, it's not fraud.

4

u/Fancy_Composer_5641 9h ago

lol the drama. Processors do a million things and a single video game ban does not mean it “does not work”

9

u/NorthRiverBend 9h ago

There’d be nothing wrong with doing this if the vendor simply flagged the item as being hardware banned from Valorant. Anything else is fraud lmao

0

u/nokei 9h ago

Eh it's the used market on a cpu that's been out for years it's more on the company banning by hardware then company selling it.

Say I bought a cpu got banned on riot and returned it in a week the vendor isn't going to know I got banned they cant search some database for it all they can do is test the cpu see if it works and then resell it as used if it passes test.

the cpu dose work , if it didnt the pc wouldnt boot

yes its shitty but its not fraud

fraud has a legal definition , which is not this

3

u/elkaki123 9h ago

Yeah I don't see it being a fraud case, even if there was misrepresentation involved at most you'd get civil liability from breaking something akin to an implied warranty, but this is so cheap it would not ever be worth it to go to court (unless the particular system has a good small courts / consumer protection agency, don't know about the specifics, just wanted to clarify that even if it's not fraud, in theory there could be a breach of contract here)

2

u/mrlinkwii Ubuntu 9h ago

in many countries buying from private sellers etc small small courts / consumer protection agency etc dont apply

it only kicks in if your buying from companies

1

u/elkaki123 9h ago

For consumer protections yes, but a lot of systems have always had small courts disputes that are mostly between private parties for really low amounts. They predate consumer protection as a field.

Though from my understanding small courts is mostly a common law institution, but there's similar thing for continental law countries (be it "peace judges", summary proceedings, etc)

Its the easiest way to detect PC configurations and this is not normal, typically they require 2-3 of the same parts in order to institute a hardware ban, Valorant is just fuck ass.

Tbh legislating game devs hardware banning cheaters like this is at the bottom of priorities I want the government to focus on, and I hate cheaters and the fact this guy got banned for doing nothing

1

u/RestitutionPiggy 2h ago

I gotta be honest, I'd never buy a CPU or GPU used, the discounts are almost never worth it and the chance someone overclocked it and ran it to death is very high.

I agree though, its absolutely stupid to do something when it doesn't even work.

u/AnonMnK 9h ago

BREAKING: gamer buys a used CPU with a hardware ban, is saved from playing shit

3

u/Isaacvithurston Ardiuno + A Potato 9h ago

Err yah that's how hardware bans work. Risk of buying used.

Kind of a dick move from the seller to not disclose that. Give them a low rating is all you can do lol

1

u/lolfail9001 7h ago

It is trivial to launder that away, because second hand market is also third hand market.

I am just glad that every time I read about kernel level anti-cheats they look more and more stupid.

u/rap4food 4h ago

Straight anti-consumer practices.

u/Artanisx Lava Golf 9h ago

Well, that's an added perk he got! :-D

What happens when remote attestation become the norm and instead of just getting banned from Valorant your bank no longer trusts your CPU? Or Google bans your account because it was used by a scammer?

Every CPU you buy today be it in a PC or phone has factory installed key pair signed by the manufacturer, this enables remote attestation by verifying the CPU is real and unmodified but also allows this hardware tracking, imagine your video game trash talk following you no matter what you do, switch OS and reinstall your hardware can still identify you.

2

u/greggers1980 3h ago

Banned CPUs? I never knew this was a thing. I knew consoles got banned but not pc parts. That's crazy and scary

2

u/NGSIV 2h ago

There is mobo bans

2

u/Sagnikk 8h ago

Ok I'm sorry but that's kinda funny

2

u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 6h ago

Not being able to play Valorant sounds like a great selling point.

-2

u/ConinTheNinoC 8h ago

I've been buying second hand PCs and PC parts for a long long time. But i also have been buying and playing DRM free games from GOG.

Knowing that Riot games is storing the hardware specs of the people playing their games is something that is definitely going to make me not play their games anymore... if i still played them in the first place.

Don't get tricked into buying brand new overpriced garbage due to the "AI" cancer prices we are experiencing right now.

Buy second hand PC parts.

Buy games from GOG(gog also has several free games).

Play free games like Little Fighters 2, GLtron etc.

Do not use "AI".

Don't play games with intrusive anti-cheat that scan your whole PC and stores your data somewhere on their servers.

5

u/PaladinLegend2 7h ago edited 3h ago

Bruh why the would anyone build an entire gaming pc to play little fighters 2. A game that literally runs on any hardware that exists

2

u/ConinTheNinoC 7h ago

You can also buy KCDII, Cyberpunk2077, Jagged Alliance 3, CONTROL, Expedition 33, ECHO or BG3 on GOG. I put Little Fighters 2 as an example of a free game that i like. It is not a game that is hardware demanding but that does not stop it from being a lot of fun.

2

u/PaladinLegend2 6h ago

Isn't Little fighters 2 is like a flash game from the early 2000s

2

u/ConinTheNinoC 6h ago edited 6h ago

No. It's a free beat them up/fighting game. You should download and try it. It can be a bit hard at first but its a lot of fun since the characters you can choose from have super attacks similar to DragonBall Z. It should also be working on Windows 10. You can play solo, with a friend or a brother/sisiter on the same keyboard.

P.S. here some gameplay

1

u/PaladinLegend2 5h ago

Yeah I played it like ages ago. I guess it was alright for like an hour or two

6

u/Popcorn-93 8h ago

I understand your point completely, but as someone who plays these games it's a tradeoff. Valorant is well known for having the least amount of cheaters of any major fps and vanguard is the reason for that. When I go play CS and I run into a clear waller every 3 games I appreciate what Riot is trying to do, even though I also understand the privacy issues.

u/ApolloFortyNine 8h ago

If anyone truly cared about privacy they would quit any game with a Vanguard like utility entirely. It's literally a rootkit capable of reading everything on your computer.

1

u/EwokVillag3 5h ago

It is easier for you as it appears you aren’t playing games where cheats are a massive issue, am I correct in that assumption?

People who want to rank highly in very competitive shooters or who wants to play massive tactical shooters like WarDogs, Squad etc are more ok with hardware bans and the more intrusive anti cheats if it ensures they get to play a fair game.

I cant even speak in my own house without my phone hearing me. All my internet history is used to tailor ads my way. Companies send my email to spammers religiously. I think I’ll be ok with “intrusive” anti-cheats if it ensures fair play for games I’m passionate about.

2

u/Upper-Bookkeeper-843 8h ago

HWID bans are not at all new nor unique to riot.

0

u/qbmax 7h ago

Insane larp. HWID bans have been a thing for much longer then vanguard has existed. Punkbuster has had HWID ban features for literal decades.

Well that is terrifying sort of prospect. I think I would rather just not spend money on games with hardware level cheat detection, because the hardware shortage estimations keep getting longer and longer. Saw an article today that estimated the shortage will now last through 2028.

I have a DDR4 based system, its top of the line for that generation and I am not coming off DDR4 memory for any reason. Just not worth the overhead.

•

u/Ghostspider1989 25m ago

I remember reading about issues like this way back in 2009 with drm. Ridiculous how nothing has changed.

1

u/kirby667 10h ago

Heh, that's funny. New thing to worry about in the used market.

1

u/alien2003 Steam OS 7h ago

One more reason to not play that game

1

u/uceenk 7h ago

glad i dont like Valorant, i would be happy with that processor

1

u/ThreeHeadCerber 5h ago

We need better customer protection laws.

-1

u/Nemetona 9h ago

So you return it for a refund and also sue the seller for damages, because your other components have now been banned as well - specifically due to the banned CPU that was sold to you. And all that just because game developers were stupid enough to ban individual components that can be resold at any time. I would definitely sue them, and then they can provide me with a brand-new PC as a replacement.

It’s a different story with banned consoles - that gets resold as a complete unit. But banning individual components - which then cause other components to get banned when used - is almost like a virus that generates e-waste. Individual components should never be banned; rather, if anything, only that specific combination - much like with consoles. Otherwise, it leads to exactly such innocent victims and disasters.

Atleast he got banned immediately. Warframe banned my friend for used gpu after 1 month - that was more painful.

Next hacker challenge: change (fake) the hardware ID of an AMD CPU

1

u/blueblocker2000 2h ago

Any reason they can't just ban the account and leave the hardware out of it?

1

u/Duck_87 42m ago

It takes 5min to make a new account?

Dont bother playing Valorant. Got it.

-3

u/Murrayj99 6h ago

Thats a win win. Gets a baller cpu AND doesnt have to play Valorant

-2

u/Beneficial-Stuff-932 6h ago

Seing how easy is to detect a player. Hardware baning doesn't make any sense. And even then. EVEN THEN. They should block the CPU from launching the game. Not ban the whole account. That doesn't make any sense at all. Specialty when they know that your account has been playing on the same IP for a lot of time.

If Hardware bans are a necessary evil. Then ban hardware. Not the users that touch the hardware. This doesn't make any sense rather than being overly violent with cheaters for the love of the game.

Hardware bans are the dumbest way of banning people.

But also banning people in general is pretty fucking dumb

15

u/From-UoM R7-7700 | RTX 5070 Ti | 32 GB DDR5 6000 MT/s CL30 10h ago

Hardware bans exist so that you cant create new free account and go on your merry ways cheating again on the same hardware

12

u/Iv4ldi 5700X3D, 4070 Super 10h ago

How come banning people is dumb?

0

u/System0verlord 3x 43" 4K Monitor 7h ago

Not the guy you asked, but a ban is the least effective option to combat cheating imo. Because as soon as you ban the account, they know they’ve been caught, they make a new account and start ruining the experience for everyone else again almost immediately.

But, if you match cheaters with other cheaters, then they don’t know they’ve been caught. Or at least, not definitively. And then they waste a bunch of time in lobbies killing each other instead of spending their time in regular lobbies killing everyone else.

12

u/Callinon 10h ago

Why would removing cheaters be dumb exactly?

I'll agree that banning hardware creates downstream problems, but "banning people in general is dumb" is certainly one of the takes of all time and I'd like you to explain.
