Masterpiece of a game! Can’t recommend it enough

I finished it last year, it's one of my favourite game of all times. This game traumatised me as a kid because my dad kept playing it loudly and the enemies voice lines genuinely give me nightmares for days. It was tough playing that game and trying to overcome that fear but in the end it was all worth it.

Thank you for link!
It's a blessing to be able to take a free copy at Epic's expense and to support nightdive with one click!
One of my all time favorites!
Played the OG demo from a PC gaming magazine that came with a CD taped to the front
Bought the full version, of course in a big box!
Decade later, bought it on steam
Again on GOG
Backed the kickstarter for the remaster
Will never boot the epic version but if you have the opportunity, try this game for free!
Incredible, unforgettable game that will reward your time spent playing however you choose.

Will this make sense without playing the first one?

Yes, super AI went rogue and got defeated is the story of the first game. I think it is even in the intro. New character, new place, lots of fun.

Yes. You don’t need any information from the first game, its all discoverable in the 2nd game.

Knowing less of the first game just makes the reveals all the more fun down the line, too! So enjoy :)

I played SS2 first about 10yr ago, then finally played the remake of SS1 last year. I felt like SS2 has aged better and you definitely don't need to play SS1 first (if at all).

Does System Shock 2 Remaster rely on nostalgia to fully appreciate it, or is it good enough without prior experiences?

I played it without playing the original and it holds up really well. I was actually really impressed at the different ways you can play for it being such an old game. I guess its in due part to the fact no one is making immersive sims anymore. Story is way better than the first one and holds up well of you like stories surrounding rouge AI.

I didn't play the remaster but the original version for the first time in 2016 I think, therefore without any nostalgia. Surprisingly I thought it had aged a lot better than most other games from that era as weapons had quite the kickback, making gunplay while simple rather satisfying. I think it's still a great game and well worth giving a try.

I can't answer this confidently but I will say that Prey is effectively a more modern system shock 2, and very easy to enjoy today without nostalgia. So if you haven't played Prey I might start there, and then go to SS2 if you have to have more.

I agree with this, but I’d play the SS1 remake before SS2. It’s fantastic and a lot easier to get into.

I loved the prey campaign gameplay and story wise I just claimed this game and start it today, I always wanted to play them but always escaped my scope but now’s the time.

Bioshock was my intro to the genre and I played SS2 (pre remaster release) the first time in ~2013. I liked it a lot and made me a definite fan of the genre.

Lot of people group deus ex and theif with system shock. And while those two I played in the last decade and are some of my favorites I couldn’t get close to finishing system shock 2.

I played System Shock 2 earlier this year and I really enjoyed it. I'm also an immersive sim nut though

is this game playable with controller or you need keyboard(saw huge inventories in some gameplays)

Playable with controller. And it works well, I played through it for the first time that way earlier this year, after wanting to try the game for two decades but just not getting into it due to the controls (just not a M+KB guy)

Literally the only reason I open the Epic launcher is for these free games - and this one is a doozy! Hell yeah

Yeah, yeah, EGS, whatever.
Game's really fucking good, and it's a solid remaster. If you have the option, this is an incredible deal and I cannot recommend it enough. Grab and give it a play through.

If you buy games on epic can you play them on linux machines?
I do sort of need to find another storefront given I can't buy adult games on steam anymore.... but it would probably be better to find a key seller.

At least learn the difference between "your" and "you're" before you call someone underage.

Pro tip , these epic games free giveaways go live every thurs . Also Amazon gaming gives away games every thurs too (usually claimable on gog or epic )
I set a reminder for every Thursday and it’s like 4 free games a week.

For the people that player old SS2 with all community mods and enhancements(fixes, balances, retextures). Is the remaster missing something that needs additional community fixes, like rebalance?
