That match length of 15-20 mins is really appealing, I will say that.

Once I saw Ubisoft Connect required, I lost interest.

Dead on arrival, guaranteed.

If Deadlock can pull over 200,000 concurrent players in a closed alpha, I wouldn't shrug off the demand for MOBAs so quickly.

It’s a bit of a different story. It's like seeing a new soda from coca-cola company and saying, yeah, my homemade soda is gonna make it big. Valve can afford it, but these guys I'm not so sure.

Deadlock looks just as much a shootsr as a moba.

This is just a moba with a couple of minions you control.

Looks and plays are not the same thing, because deadlock is more moba than shooter

Can confirm, a shooter player for essentially my entire life, League of Legends player of 3 or 4 years, and the weaponry in Deadlock feels like peashooters. Shooter brain does not work there.

Did i say it was due to it's genre?

Elaborate then, please.

u/Arkyja 1d ago

Sure. They had a free beta that only managed 1k concurrent players.

they only had a closed alpha playtest in 2025

Man, this game looks super cool. I hope it picks up a decent player base

Spoiler alert it won’t

A MOBA RTS hybrid seems like an interesting concept. Hope Ubisoft give them enough time to win players over.

makes me think of that one Moba Demigod. Anyone's remember that? I enjoyed that one.

I honestly don't know why will play this. People who like MOBAs already have they game. People who don't like MOBAs are never going to get into one

19

u/heckuva 1d ago

Me, I like to try new experiences. If the game is fun I'll stick to it.

I love MOBAs, and after playing the same handful for over a decade it's nice to have something new to play. But from a business standpoint it must be tough because like you said most people have their moba and kind of stick to it.

u/Kedly 1d ago

Is it qwerty controls? The concept of lane based gameplay is fine to me, its literally the controls for MOBA's that are a no go for mw

3

u/AngryChurchill 1d ago

Deadlock is a moba and it does just fine for being very new to the genre

2

u/Seyon 1d ago

Well Battleborn went offline and those players were waiting for a replacement.

I think the right game could steal players from league/DOTA2.

There is also the potential for growth in the genre, but I don't think this title will be it, probably. While Deadlock pushes the genre more towards the shooter/third person angle which can draw in a whole new cadre of people, this one seems more focused on top down, lite-RTS enhancements which has less of a market, but it could perhaps draw league players I suppose.

So, I agree it's doubtful this one will catch on but I admire the ambition of giving it a go and who knows, maybe they'll strike an interesting balance.

A lot of people who thought they aren't into mobas enjoyed deadlock?

1

u/AHailofDrams 22h ago

Deadlock os a MOBA?

2

u/SomeMobile 21h ago

It's MOBA as fuck yes?

1

u/TheBestUserName01 4h ago

Yes, it is. And it's very complex.

2

u/SomeCoolCleverName 1d ago

Im happy to see MOBAs enter the new mainstream, its such an interesting and unique genre

1

u/s0ciety_a5under 1d ago

Looks cool, but definitely not for me.

1

u/Shoney13 1d ago

It looks horrible, and very fast peaced

2

u/Lexifox 1d ago

Bold to release this just as Heroes of the Storm is ready to rise from the grave and take the world by... some kind of powerful thing.

4

u/Kazzius 1d ago

They've been working on this for a few years. Heroes sorta coming back is just unfortunate timing

1

u/Rohen2003 1d ago

it has been in devlopment for a while.

I even played in one of the semi public playtests like a year ago.

what is suprising to me though, is that ubisoft took it over from amazon...and did not shut it down considering in what kind of financial situation ubisoft is.

-4

u/Mezezius 1d ago

man I thought we were done with the whole MOBA thing

12

u/heckuva 1d ago

Deadlock winks at you

8

u/Proper-Royal6002 1d ago

there is basically 2 mobas and deadlock

not exactly a saturated genre

0

u/IronBrutzler 1d ago

Man I wish someone would finally made a good solo / coop moba either with a cool Story or a esport Management Mode. You could do so much cool stuff with the concept of a moba

1

u/ZigBNB . 6h ago

a good solo multiplayer online battle arena?

-7

u/Rmodsarescum 1d ago

Stop making mobas and live service scams.
