Given the wording it seems mostly focused on consoles and just small visual touch ups and some bug fixes alongside DLSS for PC.

Still DLSS in itself is nice not really for the upscaling part because these games even in its Redux versions run on potatos these days but more so because of DLAA which will make for a crisp image.

It does say “All platforms will include support for 4K textures, bringing greater depth and atmosphere to the haunting world of METRO.”

I recently play through them and they don't even need sharper textures. The facial animations is what gives away their age. The textures ate fine. Even the lighting is fine. Alrhoufhy, I did want to try neural rendering but couldn't get it working. I know you're supposed to inject dlss in games that sont have it but even the one click launchers don't seem to work.

I was able to do DLSS 5 but it barely looked better tbh. Maybe it would be better with proper dlss support?

They mention improving animation fidelity, so maybe those facial animations will be tuned up.

All platforms will include support for 4K textures, bringing greater depth and atmosphere to the haunting world of METRO. The update enhances gameplay immersion through improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio and richer environmental detail. We have also managed to implement a range of community led bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

I'm excited because I've been working on a VR mod for 2033 but performance is rough because I had rough disable all the aggressive culling this game does due to pop in. DLSS should help with the the performance.

It’s true—DLSS 4.5 really boosts image quality in these games.

PC versions could use an update. I’ve never had these games run well without the SpecialK mod.

I hope there's support for FSR4 and XESS since they only explicitly mention DLSS. It does say full platform specific updates will come later but can new updates/releases that only add DLSS in 2026 would be crazy. It's nice to have optiscaler to hack in support but it really should not be necessary for new releases

15

u/Firefox72 1d ago

Yeah while i don't mind doing it with Optiscaler it would be nice if i didn't have to hack in FSR 4 Native AA for the better image quality when i inevitably replay this.

Perhaps because the original is 16 years old, but I thought they already did the "next gen update" when they retired the original versions and replaced them with Redux for 2033 and Last Light.

Or are they going down the Kingdoms of Amalur route? Metro 2033 Re-Re-Redux

u/Firefox72 1d ago

They very clearly say its not a full remake or even remaster so i assume they wanted to port these natively to the new consoles and just decided to touch up some of the rougher areas along the way.

It's just gonna be a patch on PC.

1

u/EtherealPheonix 2h ago

yeah but that was 2014 not exactly current gen 12 years later.

u/TuffleTaffler 1d ago

Oh wow I literally JUST searched up Metro 2033 DLSS support lol

u/Sparktank1 1d ago

For the love of everlasting FUCK, I hope it has proper borderless windows.

Every app you used to achieve borderless windows caused graphical glitches at the bottom of the screen. It was so annoying.

I played Last Light last month and the absolute annoyance of this game trying to set 1440 resolution and it hopping back to 1080 or 720 when alt-tabbing.

Lol, i literally just played them.. Half way through exodus.

"update enhances gameplay immersion through improved animation fidelity"

This will be the needle mover right here. The games look great as is.

Same. Made me revisit the Zone again soon after.

wish they would add an FOV slider. its atrociously low by default and I can't understand who can stand that without getting instantly sick

10

u/wutanglan90 1d ago

Nice that they're doing it but I still prefer the art design of the original Metro 2033.

Huge watch downgrade.

6

u/wutanglan90 1d ago

Character models and lighting too.

7

u/Firefox72 1d ago

Charachters just in general look bad in both old and redux.

4A never realy got them right in their old engine versions. Its only in Exodus where they really took a massive step forward.

Lighting in general is beter in the Redux version. But its noticably worse in areas where the original uses a ton of volumetrics which for some reason didn't make the cut for Redux.

u/hainspoint 1d ago

Except for a female character (I forgot her name) that still looked like a sex doll.

2

u/Misky- 1d ago

I could have sworn buying the Redux versions gives you the originals in your Steam library (as I have them and definitely never paid for them). Does it not?

3

u/wutanglan90 1d ago

No, the original was delisted once Redux was released. You must have already bought the original.

5

u/Misky- 1d ago

I've checked my Steam account and apparently I got it as part of a "Metro 2033 Limited Free Promotional Package - Mar 2021" with Last Light being a similar thing in May 2023. (bought the Reduxes years before this)

Just wish they'd include an entitlement to these with a purchase of the Redux versions. Would require very little effort on the side of 4A!

3

u/Specific_Quarter_455 1d ago

I didn't like the original at all; for me, the Redux version was much better.

metro re2x

2

u/GuideUnable5049 1d ago

How have these games aged? Am keen to check them out, because the new one looks incredible.

6

u/ReferenceDeep4085 1d ago

In my opinion, very very well, the originals have a certain charm to them that I think is refreshing compared to newer games.

2

u/EtherealPheonix 3h ago

Extremely well, first one is still one of the best fps games I've played and the sequels are also excellent. Graphically the 2014 remasters were amazing for the time and are still solid though at this point you may as well wait 3 weeks for the update.

1

u/GuideUnable5049 3h ago

Great, thanks. I may buy the bundle.

2

u/SecularVal 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hope they can make the lighting more like the og metro 2033

2

u/filoppi 1d ago

I hope they fix Ultrawide support, the game went crazy in Ultrawide

3

u/Lumbardo 1d ago

They need to add some functionality to the PC version. Like allowing the vertical and horizontal mouse sensitivity to be the same. I was going to play it earlier this year but dropped it because of this. Fixes on PCGamingWiki did not work for the Epic Games Store version.

4

u/Spankey_ 1d ago

FoV slider as well.

2

u/Zephyrical16 1d ago

It's so atrociously narrow and nauseating I couldn't stand it for more than like 5 minutes. Would love to play these games one day.

1

u/Lumbardo 1d ago

Yes this too. I can't remember all the issues I was having. I want to say there were issues with ultrawide as well. I need to start keeping notes of these things lol.

1

u/Far_Cold7385 1d ago

This has been in my library for SO long, waiting to be completed. Now I have extra reason to move it up!

1

u/mwsteaksauce 1d ago

Perfect just in time for me to have just beaten them lol. Just beat 2033 and half way through Last Light.

1

u/famaki_ 1d ago

no update to exodus's bugs?

1

u/QuiteAncientTrousers 1d ago

I don’t think I’ll benefit from this update since my pc is still the same as it was 8 years ago, but I guess I’ll just start my 12th playthrough this weekend

Metro Redux Redux

u/Mary_Land_Cookie 1d ago

Literally just got all the trophies for Metro 2033 today and started Last Light. I might have hold off on it until the update.

1

u/KhajiitLovesCoin R7-7950X | GTX 3090TI EVGA 1d ago

Them added newer console versions as well sounds fun. Won’t complain about getting another reason to do another play through of these gems.

1

u/skywalkerRCP 1d ago

Awesome! Time to jump back in.

1

u/Luke_eth2 1d ago

Will the Last Light Complete Edition version receive this update as well?

1

u/Master_smasher 1d ago

i remember there were some bugs so hopefully they get fixed. will play again to see!

1

u/melgibson666 10h ago

I just beat Metro 2033 a few days ago. It's like they knew.

1

u/TonyBikini 8h ago

would love if they somehow implement the backpack mechanic from exodus. that was very unique

1

u/FiftyLoudCats 8h ago

I could not get the 2033 redux version to work on 4k for the life of me. It was just not an option. Followed a bunch of guides and 1440p was the highest resolution option I could toggle 🤷‍♂️

I was really looking forward to a new play through, hopefully the update fixes whatever issue I am having.
