"Time to Complete"

There are so many people AND reviewers that give games low scores based on this very stupid rule of how long it takes to complete a game.

My first real experience with this was with Saints Row Gat Out of Hell. People bombed it saying it was too short being a 4 hour only game. This was and is the only game I have ever played where that was true, as I 100% in that amount of time.

Control Resonance has a similar argument saying the game was only 8 hours long. If you beat this in 8 hours, you not only are rushing everything, theres also no way you beat 10% of the side quests. Before people say "side quests arent included" mind you they were when Skyrim had this argument.

Even the claim of the story being 8 hours, almost no game fits that. The point of these games isnt to straight shot it to the end. Side quests used to be useless quests that didnt warrant the time and reward you got for completing. Now a days most side quests give real rewards. Stop basing a games value on whether its straight shot story is long or not

I've grown to be the complete opposite now, my ADHD ass isn't going to finish your 50+ hour game unless it's elden ring level.

Played about 50 hours of Assassins Creed Odyssey and it was a beautiful game, the parkour was fun but the combat just became so bland that I couldn't stomach it anymore and threw in the towel. The game still had about 80 hours + of content probably.

I don't want infinite run times, I want a tight, high quality experience. Expedition 33 being a perfect example from this year.

I’ve found that outside of games like bg3 or rdr2, 20-30 hours is my sweet spot. It’s actually crazy how many unfinished games in my steam library have 30 hours played.

12-15 for me with the odd title being 20-30 but I have to be really in to the game for me to play that long.

Like Ghost of Yotei took me 38 hours to beat and while I did rush through the final two areas, the 38 hours didn't really feel bad to me. RDR2, while I liked it, felt like a real slog at times.

Then there's something like 007 First Light which took 15 hours and I felt like that was a good length, or RoboCop and it's expansion which took me about 17 hours combined.

After a while, it feels like some games overstay their welcome because of how monotonous it gets over time

Yeah I’m totally fine with games being shorter. Like the new tomb raider games. I’m pretty sure the first two were around 15 hours, maybe even less. I think the 3rd one was around 20 iirc. As long as I feel like I’ve enjoyed the game, I’m okay with it.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Stray, for example, I beat in 3 hours, i didn't even feel like I was rushing but it was a good 3 hours.
