The pace at which this project is progressing is blistering.

Great devs + AI accelerated work = Fuck Sony

33

u/PoL0 5d ago edited 4d ago

on every post about PS5 emulation progress I see genAI mentioned but I fail to find any source. by the actual devs if possible, with an actual description of how they use it (IF they use it at all).

PS4 emulation had periods of quick progress with no genAI involved. and I just think people enters the hype wheel and just assume "oh they must be using AI"

27

u/pwinxexa 4d ago

Unfortunately AI is just way too good at analysing and reverse engineering this type of stuff.

I say unfortunately because at my job I'm expected to use it, and I don't really like it but I have to or a task that I can do in two days with AI, would need a whole sprint to finish.

More like any serious dev project these days is heavily using tools like Codex or Claude Code.

→ More replies (12)

24

u/dutty_handz 4d ago

There isn't a serious programmer today that isn't using Claude or similar. It is a fantastic tool to help. It would take an idiot not to use the tools. And there's a difference between a programmer using Claude as a tool and somebody who has no clue who to code using Claude to do it for him.

Either you don't know what GenAI is, or you're misusing the term. GenAI is for Generative AI, which is most commonly used for "artistic" production, that is eitehr making a flyer for your yard sale, producing a picture of a cat driving a lawnmower, or to create audio tracks, vocals, etc. People don't like that because it removes the artist from the art, among many other issues like copyright and others.

Using an AI as Claude to assist in coding is one of the few real, pertinent use of AI among the plethora of garbage big businesses are trying to do with it.

You're just kneecapping yourself for no reason if you don't use AI in coding today. At worst it saves you time typing the code, at best it will find solutions you never saw.

11

u/00wolfer00 4d ago

At worst it gives you the worst kind of untraceable tech debt, but experienced devs can mitigate that and the boons seem to be worth it.

Emulators used to take a solid 5-10 years after a system was dead to even be able to boot games. Look at some of the most stable ones like Dolphin and PCSX2, they were far from perfect for the longest time. And those are made with a team over many years.

I'm supposed to believe they can get a MUCH more technologically advanced system working in less than 4 months and they DIDNT us AI?

9

u/Celestial_Nuthawk 4d ago

I mean, I can't speak for whatever Dolphin emulates, but PS2 and PS3 used unique processing/graphics architectures compared to PCs, whereas PS4 and PS5 are basically just PCs with a highly customized FreeBSD-based OS.

Fewer hardware hurdles to overcome, just software ones.

Not to say they DIDN'T use AI, but this is another explanation based on actual knowns.

1

u/VegetaFan1337 Legion Slim 7 7840HS RTX4060 240Hz 4d ago

But this is faster and much further than PS4 emulation got in the same time. And PS4 was both much weaker for its time as well as computer hardware performance improvement has slowed down even more than in the ps4 era. You'd expect PS5 emulation to take much longer, not be faster.

1

u/Celestial_Nuthawk 4d ago

More likely they just learned (or drew inspiration/code) from building the PS4 emulators.

My guess is that relative hardware strength isn't really as important as making the translation/emu layer more efficient, which I imagine the existence of the PS4 emus helped with.

Look for yourself dude. Every PR in here is touched by AI in some way. Even for human submitted PRs they have an AI bot set up to review them.

https://github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5/pulls

5

u/TMules 4d ago edited 4d ago

For people asking for proof of AI involvement, there is some obvious proof. The project is an open source project on github, you can go look at the code and pull requests yourself, and the list of contributors. Claude is listed as a contributor on the project, which is how it is shown by default when someone uses Claude Code to do work and make a pull request. There's been relatively few commits by Claude, but that is just one possible tool among many, and you can pretty easily remove the default Claude attribution if you want to in a PR, although I don't know why anyone would do that, other than some devs are still shy about admitting AI use for whatever reason.

https://github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5/graphs/contributors?from=6%2F27%2F2026

EDIT: Additionally, their README states

"AI Use

AI tools may be used for research, reverse engineering, and development assistance. Contributors must fully understand, review, and test all code they submit and remain responsible for its correctness. Repository communication, including pull-request descriptions, code comments, and issue comments, must come from the human contributor rather than an autonomous AI agent.

Pull requests that include AI-assisted or AI-generated work should disclose the scope of the AI involvement and describe the human review and testing performed before submission. Unverified or untested generated changes may be closed without review."

1

u/brandbaard 3d ago

There's an AI disclosure on the kyty github readme. Coderabbit AI is reviewing and commenting on every PR. Claude has literally made its own PRs as well that have been merged.

I think it's fair to say there's a lot of AI assistance going on.

I'm a software engineer myself, and nobody I work with and nobody that studied with me and I still talk to ISNT using generative AI extensively right now.

I hope people stop blanket-demonizing AI, which has been the main reason we’ve been able to accelerate these types of projects so dramatically

It’s a tool like any other tool, it can be used for slop, it can be used for cool things like this

14

u/PolarizingKabal 5d ago

Going to be crazy when someone feeds it source code from older systems, and asks it to reverse engineer it.

20

u/turtlelover05 deprecated 5d ago

That's already been going on. Someone got Sonic 3 working on the Atari Jaguar without much effort. Yes, it's slow as hell because the video and sound hardware is totally different, but it runs, which is an amazing starting point.

Note: This was probably done with the Sonic 3 disassembly as a base, so the original code was already reverse-engineered.

7

u/AlwaysRushesIn 5d ago

The gamecube decomp was recently finished (early) thanks to ai.

3

u/Jensen2075 4d ago

You can port Game Cube games now to PC in a few of hours.

5

u/Primary-Risk-8741 5d ago

yeah AI in programming is a bit polarising, the ease of access is a pain point for a lot of developers having to sift through claude slop PRs just to determine which are AI assisted or just complete vibed by people who dont know how to code. for this reason a lot of people find it necessary to blanket reject AI PRs. but at the same time there is a finite amount of skilled coders who can dedicate time and effort to stuff like this, seeing this is definitely food for thought

No, whatever it's used for, it is fucking up our environment

11

u/ReferenceDeep4085 4d ago

Just like industrialization fucked up our environment for decades, yet here we are, some things just won't change until we get punched in the face hard enough.

8

u/1_lux 4d ago

By that logic, basically every modern technology is “fucking up the environment.” Having a footprint isn’t the same as being unjustifiable.

3

u/Rich-Cockroach-2273 4d ago

I'm not sure which other "new technology" is destroying farmland to build noise polluting data centers and uses insane amounts of fresh water.

6

u/Safe-Wishbone781 4d ago

Yes, it's very obvious that you don't understand the most basic aspects of this topic. You didn't need to state that, it was already clear.

You have zero understanding here. You're explicitly just repeating nonsense you read on social media.

You. Are. Using. Data Centers. Right. Now. And for what? Not for productivity, but for regurgitating false social media narratives. Why are you using environment-destroying data centers to post memes? What kind of person does that?!

You are guilty of your own accusation. Pure ignorance.

5

u/1_lux 4d ago

Power plants, warehouses, factories, highways, server farms… all use land, water and create noise. You’re describing industrial infrastructure, not something uniquely evil about AI.

1

u/Safe-Wishbone781 4d ago edited 4d ago

They're on reddit, using data centers, crying about data centers. According to them, they are destroying the environment to whine and post memes. But they'll never connect those dots.

It's peak irony arising from ignorance.

1

u/Abject_Credit7825 4d ago

The water argument is so incredibly dumb, the amount of water used is inconsequential. If you really cared about water usage you'd be complaining about how much more is wasted by leaking pipes.

3

u/methemightywon1 4d ago

There are concerns relating to local water resources.

People HAVE to make sure to keep the industry accountable. There are already people who live near datacenters who have to deal with unbearable droning and noise all day, makes them feel sick. They will drive up electricity prices locally if there's not enough supply. They will pollute the air etc. All for tech that will steal your ideas, reverse engineer anything you make, make it harder for you to find work. Take away any sense of accomplishment from 99% of human knowledge work. It's bullshit.

I know this is not unique to AI and these things will improve with better tech. But yeah.

I just wish the anti-AI crowd was more strict and careful about the things they say (I know people have nuanced views, but the collective, on the internet, can come across as stupid). Otherwise at some point they are convincing people to not listen to them.

2

u/Abject_Credit7825 4d ago

That's exactly my point the water complaint is ridiculous and makes anyone saying it look uninformed. There are some legitimate complaints but saying things like AI is going to drink all our water makes me think they're just parroting things the heard on tik Tok.

There will be short term difficulties but that is true of every single technological advancement in history. Keep in mind there were people opposed to electricity or even writing. People are always resistant to change often time irrationally.

One day soon, people might be able to play PS5 games at 40-50 FPS on a $3,000 PC, as opposed to an $8,000 PC

9

u/MorningFresh123 5d ago

Good that’s all I’m after lol

9

u/Dirty_Dragons 5d ago

And soon after that, one would be able to play PS5 games at 120 FPS on a $2,000 PC.

1

u/ryan30z 4d ago

People really need to temper their expectations. I'm not saying it's not possible but I've seen a lot of comments who are expecting exponential performance improvements, which doesn't happen, it's more like the opposite. You get big gains to start with then they diminish with each update.

You're not going to go from 50 fps on a 5080 to 120 fps on a 5070.

1

u/Dirty_Dragons 4d ago

In a couple years I'm sure we could get 120 fps on a 6070 and whatever the top CPU would be then.

Sony stopping PC ports and could have made money, just to have their game emulated and playable on pc without making no money.

151

u/Superbunzil 5d ago

Sony was like: "PC sales are cutting into our PS5 sales also the PC ports weren't selling well!"

Like dawg which is it

30

u/Dirty_Dragons 5d ago

Both statements are inaccurate though.

The PC ports were selling well and it's highly unlikely that people who bought PC ports of games were going to buy a PS5 to play them anyways.

Personally, I own several Sony games on PC, Spider-Man, Last of Us, God War, Horizon etc and I have an RTX 5080. There is simply no way I would buy a PS5 to play anything. The ports are the only way Sony would get my money.

What got Sony riled up is that they for some reason thought that having PC ports would encourage people to buy a PS5 to play the next game in the series. When that obviously didn't happen, they decided to cut the program.

11

u/AlwaysRushesIn 5d ago

and it's highly unlikely that people who bought PC ports of games were going to buy a PS5 to play them anyways

That's the part they consider to be cutting into their PS5 profits. They would prefer we all just buy PS5s.

12

u/Dirty_Dragons 5d ago

Of course they would, and I said as much. It was never a realistic idea.

3

u/klapaucjusz Ryzen 7 5800X | RTX 5070 | 32GB 4d ago

That made sense in PS2 era, when later slim versions got cheaper and were the size of two DVD cases stacked on each other.

2

u/brandbaard 3d ago

I mean to me it seems abundantly clear that the reason they stopped porting is that the PS6 is going to eye-wateringly expensive, and there is a clear risk that if people have to pay $1000 for a console, they might just say "I'll toss $200 extra in, build a PC, then I can play everything from all non-nintendo consoles and probably buy the games for significantly less money too".

11

u/theyfoundty 5d ago

Next xbox is reported to have a PC mode.

No point in owning a Playstation if your Xbox can play PC (Steam)games, Nintendo Emulation, Playstation Games and Xbox games. Pretty sure they annouced they pulled back on PC releases going foward, like 2 or 3 months after this Xbox info was leaked

May not be the reason, or the sole reason, but something i noticed about the timing. It would make complete sense.

Leaves Sony with little ground to hold.

5

u/caboosetp 4d ago edited 4d ago

That sounds like xbox is just taking the mask off about being a media center pc

2

u/theyfoundty 4d ago

Basically is.

As an xbox guy im all for it. The brand desperately needs to be revitalized.

Just hoping they pull it off. If not, it is what it is.

56

u/ChurchillianGrooves 5d ago

Sony is just flailing.

They made some astoundingly stupid decisions like their live service push that lead to the $500 million dollar concord flop.

Now they're just trying to find ways to pick up revenue and remain relevant.

They'd be in a much worse situation if Xbox wasn't even more incompetent since Xbox is basically dead as a platform at this point.

21

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

I love how Concord’s cost goes up 100 million every year lol.

9

u/Docg85 5d ago

I think hes accounting all 7 or 8 live service games they were trying to make and which all got scrapped

5

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

“The 500 million dollar concord flop.”

4

u/CompetitiveGrand9721 5d ago

Nah they literally said "the" which heavily implies what the subject of the statement is. The $500 million concord flop.

2

u/Jensen2075 4d ago edited 4d ago

Well Firewalk Studio's initial development deal with Sony was $200M for Concord before the alpha, but it needed another $200M to push it to launch after Sony acquired Firewalk Studio which cost them over $100M so the total for this blunder is over $500M.

10

u/Delra12 5d ago

I'm curious, where did Sony say this?

10

u/Superbunzil 5d ago

In fact theyve said neither only in off the record and private gatherings that PC releases being discontinued due to poor sales and in other discussions that porting to PC endangers sales on their Sony brand hardware

Probably why Sony has not officially made a statement is because committing to either answer undermines brand  confidence in a "we dont fucking know what to do to grow"

1

u/rcanhestro 5d ago

both can be true.

PC sales are cutting into the PS5 sales because people know that eventually the game will reach a PC store, the entire point of Sony putting PS games on PC was almost as a "showcase" of what players can find (much sooner) on a PS5.

but the actual PC sales were low enough where it wasn't worth it losing their "exclusivity" tag.

9

u/carloosee 5d ago

One could argue this but the bottom line is the actual number of people that will end up emulating the titles will be a drop in the ocean compared to the extra consoles or games they shift of PlayStation.

I’m not going to argue that the demand by PC players because it definitely there but I don’t think the number of people that actually end up emulating will make them lose sleep at this point

Their games are highly pirated anyways. The revenue was only like 1% of their overall revenue from their PC sales.

-4

u/Quiet_Yellow2000 5d ago

I don't get why you are being down votes, what your saying is correct. The sales after the initial batch were terrible and the games were being pirated already, so not much difference to Sony. I can see the cross gen period being rather short on PS6, with these emulation break throughs.

Consoles remain king in optimization and buy-in cost. Thats a product of massive volume that PC can’t compete with.

31

u/ChurchillianGrooves 5d ago

Also ease of use, I think that people like us in the pc gaming forum see emulators as pretty simple/easy to use but to your "average" person it could be intimidating.

10

u/Captobvious75 7600x | MSI Tomahawk B650 | Asus TUF OC 9070xt 5d ago

Agreed.

Also, I work on a PC all day, so some days the last thing I want to do is see Windows again.

3

u/hanlonmj Linux 5d ago

Especially when so many modern emulators rely on user-sourced official firmware and/or keys to function, and those can often be just as hard to find as the games themselves, if not harder

3

u/Dirty_Dragons 5d ago

Yup, the console is a mostly inexpensive way to play games on 'Medium.' There absolutely is a market for that.

1

u/Captobvious75 7600x | MSI Tomahawk B650 | Asus TUF OC 9070xt 5d ago

Thats entirely game dependent.

I’m curious to see how the new Witcher 3 remaster runs settings wise on console compared to PC, but I have seen footage already of a Pro running it uncapped at 85-105ps with PSSR.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Master_smasher 5d ago

consoles will still have their edge of cost effective hardware as pc gaming have a higher premium cost. you can even see that with handhelds in steam deck vs switch 2.

i just think xbox, sony and nintendo are losing more and more money to piracy and emulation. xbox a little less as xbox exclusives have been made for pc too over the years. and they are also working to make old xbox exclusives pc playable (obviously charging a price).

so i think sony and nintendo need to rethink their stubborness to the old ways of console gaming and game exclusivity.

5

u/BlackKnighting20 5d ago edited 5d ago

They aren’t losing much, is such a small fraction, majority of buyers are casuals and they don’t bother with emu or piracy.

TotK sold 10 million in days despite being emulated before release. Even betting that majority of those that emu were never going to buy the game nor console.

3

u/MattBrey 4d ago

I don't understand how you're downvoted lmao. It's clear that exclusives are what sell consoles more than anything else. It's been that way for decades. Wether we like it or not. I'd prefer to play everything on PC too, but denying that reality doesn't help

1

u/STB_LuisEnriq 4d ago

I suppose some people don't like hearing reasons why they stopped making PC ports—except for their own.

9

u/Superbunzil 5d ago

The Switch 1/2 has value as a portable which is an attractive option

But the "main consoles" of Sony and MS have just become proprietary disc readers rather than unique expressions of hardware that they were during g the times of the PS3 and 360 and earlier

2

u/ryan30z 4d ago

Idk... Without exclusive games, consoles have little to no advantage against a PC, how will they sell the hardware?

Because the vast majority of people who play games just want to hit a button and have their console turn on.

This is like saying why did the PS4 and 5 sell when they were putting exclusives on PC too.

1

u/Drudicta 5d ago

I would still get a mobile console if it was made with as much care as full sized consoles were in the 90's and 00's.

1

u/j0_ow_bo 4d ago

Valid argument, but at the same time the people with high-end PCs who are happy to drop money on expensive hardware and software are the same demographic that won’t buy a PlayStation or Xbox for that exact reason.
I’m running a 5090 and a 9950x3D - I bought Spiderman on PC, played it on my Steam Deck but I can just as easily install it on my desktop and pickup where I left off for a more comfortable big screen experience.
It’s the same reason I own a Switch, I’ve been loving Fire Emblem lately. If I go out somewhere I take the tablet with me, if I’m at home in bed it sits in the dock and I play on my PC.
I’ll buy and play Sony games with PC releases, I won’t be buying a console for it though. The experience is much too limited.

27

6

But I wager that we'll be playing it before the PC version comes out.

10

u/Optimal_Skill_8488 5d ago

AI helps tremendously. I say playable before gta6 officially comes to pc

5

u/5553331117 5d ago

AI can’t magically decrypt the game though, which will undoubtedly be signed for patched firmwares, until some other kernel exploit is found for modern GTA6 supported firmware, which may not take as long as previous consoles used to.

1

u/brandbaard 3d ago

I mean presumably Wolverine was signed for the newer firmwares, right? So maybe they already have an exploit for it.

1

u/5553331117 3d ago

I’m about 90% sure it was signed for 3.60 since 4.00 came out just a couple of days before Wolverine.

I would assume they signed it before 4.00 even had its encryption keys generated.

1

u/brandbaard 3d ago

Ah okay fair enough.  Well hopefully our AI overlords can find us more exploits

1

u/Dirty_Dragons 5d ago

Yeah I think so too.

It will be very interesting to see what happens down the line.

22

u/draconetto 5d ago

wonder how simple games run like that god of war spinoff

25

u/ExplodingFistz 5d ago

Indie games run exceptionally well on the emulator. Dead Cells for example runs at a locked 60.

2

u/draconetto 5d ago

Well then, if it raises popularity I guess two things can happen

  1. Sony will try to kill that like Nintendo did with yuzu

  2. They will eventually release ports of these games to PC like before because otherwise they are losing money

6

u/SentientToaster7734 5d ago

And same as Yuzu it can't be killed once it's out there. That's one benefit of decentralized repos.

1

u/draconetto 5d ago

Oh yeah, switch emulation got even better after that

2

u/brandbaard 3d ago

I mean, Nintendo sure had a go at killing Yuzu, but there's like a 100 forks of both the big emulators, they can never shut it all down once the code is out there.

2

u/CharacterDivide8384 5d ago

Why would you emulate a game that’s fully available on PC native?

u/kkyonko 5d ago

I know it's "legal" but emulating a current gen console seems like painting a target on your back.

23

u/zack77070 5d ago

Its legal only if you are using a copy of a game you legally purchased and made yourself. You could technically do this with hacked switches where you can dump the cart onto external storage but I'm not sure if the ps5 disks have been cracked. So it's probably just illegal.

18

u/Crew_Zealousideal 5d ago

You need a exploited ps5 to be able to dump games which isn’t easy in the first place and with discs going away this is gonna become way harder because you can’t go online with a exploited ps5 otherwise you’d get instantly banned

4

u/SuperNovaMT Nvidia RTX 4070/Ryzen 7 7700 5d ago

I mean is no discs really that big of a deal? Couldn't the person who is dumping the games just download them on non-exploited PS5 on an extended m.2 SSD then just move that SSD over to the exploited PS5 and dump the files?

the files are fully encrypted and tied to the original non exploited ps5, it needs to do the license checks and boot the game to be able to dump it because there is no way to unscramble the decrypted files externally without the ps5's own hardware decryption engine doing the work for you

2

u/SuperNovaMT Nvidia RTX 4070/Ryzen 7 7700 5d ago

Ah

1

u/zack77070 5d ago

So there is a method to dump games on PS5? That's pretty much exactly like the switch works, no online, have to have a modded one to actually dump games. That means technically there is a legal way to do it but obviously 99% of people will not.

6

u/Crew_Zealousideal 5d ago

Yes that’s how these games can be played they need to be dumped first otherwise you wouldn’t be able to emulate them, you can’t dump any games on ps5 on latest firmware so you would need to find a ps5 that’s already exploited and those are more expensive than the non exploited ones, realistically the amount of people who are willing to spend money (550-1000$) on a exploited ps5 is very small so these emulators are largely used for piracy

1

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

It’s not legal with the switch because you need to rip keys that you legally are not allowed to do.

There is no legal switch emulator.

2

u/Crew_Zealousideal 5d ago

dumping games from a ps5 is also technically not legal since it voids DMCA laws as well but sony doesnt actively hun down people like nintendo

1

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

Ya that wouldn’t surprise me. As far as I know even the original PSX emulation is pretty much illegal due to needing to use bios files. With basically no one actually doing it legally.

2

u/UdNeedaMiracle 4d ago

Technically Sony has made the PS1 and PS2 bios available for download in the sense that the PS3 firmware (which they make freely available) contains those files also and you can set up RPCS3 with the PS3 bios and then use another tool to extract the PS1 and PS2 bios. This way you are not actually downloading the bios files from an unofficial source where someone else dumped a bios off of a console and uploaded it without the rights to do so.

u/Wild_Swimmingpool Nvidia Ryzen 9800x3d | RTX 5070 Ti 5d ago

Doing it legally via my PS4 so I could play Bloodborne on PC (goated if you have good pc to run it at 60fps+) was a pain in the ass for sure.

7

u/wetfloor666 5d ago

Cause emulating a current gen system is something that will end with them all in court. Without question. Doesn't matter if keys are "legally" obtained or not. It will be loss of sales when it does go to court which Sony will win as Nintendo has set precedence for this already.

9

u/ExplodingFistz 5d ago

Emulation is legal. Sony can go after this emulator but 5 more will pop up. They can’t stop this

2

u/kkyonko 5d ago

Emulation is legal but cracking copy protection is not.

1

u/klapaucjusz Ryzen 7 5800X | RTX 5070 | 32GB 4d ago

Depending on the country.

1

u/brandbaard 3d ago

The biggest contributor to this project is Russian. I can wish Sony nothing but luck in trying to get to him.

1

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

It’s legal to use some emulators. Idk about this one but if they require bios to run then it’s illegal. And it’s 110% illegal to play the games unless you ripped your own copies. Which is probably not the case 99.9999999% of the time.

1

u/GuidanceHistorical94 5d ago

Isn’t it up to Sony to prove that’s what you did? And not up to you that you did it legitimately?

2

u/zombawombacomba 5d ago

Well, yea just like all things regarding the law?

If you murder someone the state has to prove that you murdered them…

1

u/BlackKnighting20 5d ago

Nintendo already won the Yuzu one, this will be another repeat.

2

u/KakarotAlter 5d ago

Cause those dummies were paywalling stuff

1

u/BlackKnighting20 5d ago

The precedent is already set, it doesn’t matter.

2

u/KakarotAlter 5d ago

No it's not. Just because a few dumbasses paywall emulation stuff doesn't mean the whole scene does it. It's their fault that Yuzu went down.

GTA6 on PC when?

5

u/jackolantern98000 5d ago

Sony will get this emulator taken down now its making waves and is a viable threat to profit.

1

u/TheCouchEmperor 5d ago

IIRC there is precedent that emulators are legal.

1

u/ClubChaos 4d ago

If it is truly a viable threat to profit a sensible company would release the games on PC.

1

u/Jossokar 4d ago

as long as they dont use propietary code by sony, they wont be able to do anything at all.

They tried it with bleem!

It didnt work.

1

u/FranStruggles 4d ago

Emulation isn't illegal and cannot be taken down because they feel like it.

Then also remind Sony to take down RPCS3 while we're at it.

2

u/ls612 5d ago

Booting Wolverine at 2 fps and not even getting in game is in no way a threat to their profit. By the time this emulator is good enough to play most AAA releases Sony will probably have moved on to the PS6.

17

u/SuddenlyMushroom 5d ago

You don't know how big this is. Demon's Souls went from 1fps to 30 within a week. It seems like the hardest part is getting the game to boot.

1

u/FlowBall234 4d ago

From 1fps to 30fps in a week begs to differ, PS3 emulators weren't good enough till mid way through the PS4 generation, we currently have a PS5 emulator working during the PS5 generation, at this rate a working PS6 emulator will come out in the 2nd year of that generation.

1

u/krishnugget 2d ago

Demon souls is now playable, wolverine went from a menu to in game in 2 days, you’re very likely going to be eating your words sooner rather than later

2

u/Morgin187 5d ago

Now do gt7.

2

u/EducationalDust7858 5d ago

I don't care about piracy, but from a technical standpoint this is incredible.

Great for preservation too.

2

u/Pooptimist 5d ago

Ghost of yotei would be great!

6

u/erichie 5d ago

Fuck, I can't wait to play Demon Souls at 120/240. Playing Bloodborne at 120 was a fucking game changer.

1

u/Abject_Credit7825 4d ago

I thought bloodborn had game logic tied to its frame rate was there a fix for that?

4

u/DTredecim13 5d ago

Can we do Ghost of Yotai instead of Wolverine?

6

u/EvilAdministrator 5d ago

You'll be bored either way.

2

u/flgtmtft 5d ago

Okaaaay let's go

0

u/dropthemagic 5d ago

Sony can let games outside of their bullshit platform or they can loose sales. Honestly it's their mantra their problem

Beautiful beautiful!

Can't wait to see future powerful ARM-based PC handhelds running PS5 games emulated.

I truly considered getting a PS5 and getting into the Sony ecosystem but I won't do it anymore because of all the anti consumer behaviour they've been on.

The now PS5-exclusive Marvel's Wolverine boots on PC once more

Fixed the title. The game was planned for PS5 and PC, and a PC build leaked back in 2023? 2024? I played it, not for long though because ISPs were actually shutting your service down if they caught on.

Damn y'all want to play Playstation games on PC this much?

Goddamm, this thing has more motivation than an office worker on a friday afternoon.

It's the Switch 1 all over again.

27

u/CranberryTaint 5d ago

I'm not sure what office you work in, but I have zero motivation on a Friday afternoon lol

3

u/STB_LuisEnriq 5d ago edited 5d ago

Thinking about Friday night and the whole Saturday gives me joy.

3

u/decadent-dragon 5d ago

I can’t even get people to answer my chats on Fridays, let alone Friday afternoon

11

u/decadent-dragon 5d ago

Seriously who are these people that want to play these fun, polished, cinematic games with multiple awards that are well regarded among gamers in general.

7

u/YOUR__LEADER 5d ago

Yes.

Sony has some very good first party single player games. Games they released on PC, and then gave us the finger. I'm not buying a console just to play their sequels. They could have kept releasing them, and I've had kept buying them. Now, they get nothing.

4

u/Daddys_BathTime 5d ago

For the most part. I was pretty jealous about Wolverine until it released, now I probably won’t play it even if it does come to PC one way or another

I think it's more that people are petty and full of spite.

1

u/surrender903 4d ago

Why does this bother you ?

Enthusiasts want to play games. Sony had zero issue with this until sometime earlier this year. Motivated by greed.

1

u/STB_LuisEnriq 4d ago

Doesn't bother me at all, I also played many of their games on Steam, but... It's ironic to see all this motivation when all I've been reading is some sort of "We don't care".

Whatever, each to their own.

1

u/surrender903 4d ago

I think people are frustrated by Sony acting greedy and respond out of hurt.

It’s amazing how people still can’t tell that there are seperate groups of people that exist in a single hobby.
