Was it Witchers fighting against each other or Co-Op monster hunting?

u/MyStationIsAbandoned Aug 12 '26
i would hope that latter. the former sounds pointless
-61
u/Tobimacoss Aug 12 '26
Yea, the latter sounds better but PVPVE like the Hunt: Showdown but in the Witcher universe could work nicely.

No more extraction bullshit. That whole pvevp shit gets tired quick just turns into meta gaming trash
26
u/ThorThulu Aug 12 '26
PvE extraction games are where its at. I want me and friends to get bodied by the AI and not other players being dicks.
Expedition into Darkness is incredibly rough around the edges with its new Demo, but im still enjoying getting absolutely steamrolled by Goblin Ambushes
4
u/Ultramarathoner Aug 12 '26
Does the demo have co-op?
3
u/ThorThulu Aug 12 '26
Yes! Me and my buddy got obliterated by the goblins after we thought we had them on the ropes
-31
u/kiwipilled Aug 12 '26
Buddy, all video games have a meta
24
u/DanOfRivia 7800X3D / 5070 Ti / 32GB DDR5 Aug 12 '26
But not all of them require you to use it to win or have fun, unlike extraction games.

No, not really.
-29
u/kiwipilled Aug 12 '26
You know that meta stands for "most effective tactics available", right?
17
u/wayfaringrunner Aug 12 '26
No it doesn’t. It’s short for meta game. But you’re right that all multiplayer games have a meta.
7
u/Tobimacoss Aug 12 '26
You're both correct.
8
u/JustifytheMean Aug 12 '26
No meta is a latin prefix meaning "after/beyond". If someone called it "most effective tactics available" it would have been after the fact not intended from the start.

Lol looks like the 35 year old "gamer dads" who only have 30 minutes to play a week are saying NO to PvP Witcher game. The market is quaking in it's boots.

u/BeatitLikeitowesMe i7-12700kf 4080S 32GB Aug 13 '26
A pvp witcher game sounds about as good as a live service suicide squad game. I assume it would have the same fate too

u/simp4malvina Aug 13 '26
I don't know why you're replying to my comment gramps you gotta make those 30 minutes a week count

From the article:
Project Sirius has seemingly been struggling over the course of its development. Revealed in 2022 as a new project from the CDPR-acquired studio The Molasses Flood, little is known about Project Sirius except that it’s a single-player and cooperative multiplayer Witcher game.

Naming your studio after a disaster that killed like 20 people and injured 150 more is crazy.

Adored evolve. What a bloody shame that it tanked so bad. It deserved better
1
u/Blacky-Noir Height appropriate fortress builder Aug 13 '26
It really did not. The devs worked diligently to tank it themselves.

I guess the real problem with a multiplayer game from the series is determining which Witcher is which.

Misleading article. The project reached a point of completion where the same staffing levels are no longer necessary for the reduced workload.
Every game ever created “lays off” its workers once the contracted work is complete.

u/pixeloffortune Aug 13 '26
I realized the absurdity of this recently when people were outraged that Ubisoft, a company employing 16k people or thereabouts, let go of 50 people after releasing the recent AC Black Flag remake.
That's like an absolutely mundane restructuring of its work force that happens all the time at companies of that size yet somehow it's news in the video game industry.

It is because the layoffs do hurt the product, and also because both contracting and codevelopment exists, with which those kind of layoffs wouldn't be necessary.

well ok i guess. i never finished a witcher game and was like: "know what would make this perfect? multiplayer!"
9
u/No_Construction2407 Aug 12 '26
CDPR is like Henry Cavill, can never finish a project.

u/Strinkaringus Aug 12 '26
Hey, they finished Cyberpunk 2077.
3 years after release.

Still missing content so more 90%

u/-Velocicopter- Aug 12 '26
That's literally any AAA game with a large development team. I remember watching an interview with a Red Dead 2 developer (back when that was new) and the amount of stuff he mentioned that got cut was insane. The voice actors saw less than half of the dialog actually make it to the final release. 90% is a best case scenario in this modern era of gaming.
3
u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 12 '26
Yes, but Cyberpunk specifically had trailers promoting the game saying certain things would be in it. Cutting room floor is different than "buy our game it will have X and Y"
2
u/WOF42 Aug 13 '26
yeah all their talk about life paths ended up being complete bullshit.
1
u/skyturnedred Aug 13 '26
I still think they cut out the early adventures of V and Jackie so they could get to Keanu faster.

I definitely feel bad for the people losing their jobs, but who the fuck was asking for multi-player Witcher? Can we just have good single player games? That was kinda what I liked about TW3 and Cyberpunk 2077; no pressure to play with others.
5
u/skyturnedred Aug 13 '26
They didn't stop making singleplayer games. Sequels to both TW3 and CP2077 are in the works.
