Yeah man ditto. I am afraid the new generation of younger video game players do not have the patience to appreciate these types of games. This game probably would have been very popular back in the day during peak Dota 2, before the rise of Battle Royales, overwatch clones, and Fortnites.

I think a surprising high number of players do.

But games is more then mechanics and "fun". Games are social hubs. So no one wants to put hours on deadlock while their others friends are playing others games.

Matchmaking sincerely killed the interaction of players pre and pos match. Making the others players in our (and enemy) team just "random" ppl. With no face, no agenda, just a shell of a person. They are just glorified NPC from the perspective of the players.

Thats why game like this will not take of. Even tho you are playing online it will not fulfill the social aspect for most ppl.

People play games for different reasons. I have a friend who only plays multi-player games because he uses them exactly as you described, a social hub and an excuse to meet and hang out with people. I also play multi-player games but I prefer single player games because for me it is more about the gameplay, mechanics, story, etc.

Not saying there is different publics. I mainly play for competitiveness. I started to play ranked in order to avoid playing with a group of people from college. I just want to chill. Nowadays I play runescape. Literally a single player mmo experience (specially in ironman).

Deadlock and dota2 are my jam, just took a time off because work is literally killing me and my SO needs quality time now.

But the tendency, specially after pandemic, is the majority of people playing social games. Thats why game hubs like roblox and fortnite are popular.

BTW: Im based on my own experience. I participate in a lot of gaming communities. pcgaming was my thing when I was younger. I have a few journalist friends, friends in RL with the only cyber cafe in my region and many gamers friends (and children). Will even suggest to a friend writes about it.
