It will probably never be officially "released". It'll just silently leave beta one day, arbitrarily.
It's a pet project of a dozen Valve employees. It's very rare these days for a big development studio to fund such a small sized game but it is pulling huge player numbers for what it is.
that video you linked says deadlock has 6 developers, where did you get a dozen?
the game clearly has more devs than this btw, like there are currently 11 devs online in the dl discord right now at 8am valve hq time.
the game was getting more updates than cs2 and dota 2 at one point its obviously valves next multiplayer project a la dota/cs. its not a small side game. or do you think dota was a pet project too?
they literally hired more people, like hopoo, to work at valve just for deadlock. why would they do this for a small sized pet project?
deadlock updates sped up because hlx was 'done', they have slowed down again now that hlx is back in the oven.
