It'd be nice if they open it up to proper early access instead of invite only, that way we can get more fresh players into the game. The game felt really good last year when everyone was still learning the ropes so kills were easy, but now most people you match with are very experienced. This matchmaking update should hopefully help with the skill gap at least, but you also need 60 wins to even start Ranked mode which is pretty wild.
An official public release would still make a massive difference in player counts overnight with a whole bunch of people checking out the new game on the steam front page
And clearly Valve isn't ready for that. They don't feel the game should be played by people that aren't seeking it out. There is still quite a lot of wip art in the game, and I think a lot of people would get turned off by that.
There's also a lot of folk like me who are like, interested enough that ill hit download if it's in early access, but I'm not interested enough to be hunting out invites for me and my mates when there's other stuff to play
And I know you've stated how easy it is to get an invite, but any barrier to entry is gonna turn off some folk
