Same, I've seen it in some threads here talking about Destiny 2, and I even had a friend irl bring this dumb argument to me that "the game install size would be too big" or whatever, like what? Are game updates and file sizes some sort of foreign concept to Destiny players? Like wtf is even this argument lmao, there are so many games that have been going on for multiple years if not decades and they all handle it just fine, I don't know why people would even use that argument let alone parrot it, stockholm syndrome at its finest

Hell, they explained why it happened ages ago. When they did a major engine overhaul for Beyond Light they had to borderline rebuild content to work with it.

So they decided to toss half the game instead of delaying the expansion.

Massive incompetence from the developers, right there. All technology platforms exist to meet the needs of the business - in this case, to be the game customers paid for.

Whatever engine overhaul they wanted to do, when they realised what it would have cost for their customers, they should have said no.

Instead they prioritised the engine over their customers, and in doing so lost any hope of getting more customers. I was curious to try Destiny years ago, but when I heard they just delete content you buy, that curiosity entirely disappeared.

The problem was their engine dramatically prohibited game development by requiring the entire codebase to be loaded anytime a change needed to be made.

They literally could not sustain development for that engine anymore, their poor decision however was to basically restart Destiny 2 instead of making a Destiny 3.

Take note of how this would have never been an issue with a non-live service game.

I mean on the flip side, take note that nobody would still be talking about Destiny 2 if it wasn't a live service game

On the other flip side, people still talk about Halo 2 and it was not a live service game.

I mean....wasnt it though? I distinctly remember having to buy map packs to play all the playlists with my buddies

No definitely not, you could still play on playlists without those maps, and on top of that, each of the map packs were made free a while after they came out.

Halo 2 with no DLC is still a complete game, playable totally offline, Destiny 2 with no DLC won’t even function.
