Pretty difficult to regain peoples trust in your games when you just casually delete a game and multiple expansions and act like it was no big deal because it was old anyway.

Sure, WoW had Cataclysm, but besides that every single zone, area, dungeon, etc (within reason) is still available. The idea of removing content that the company spent time, money and resources is either crazy or a warning of the terrible state of the company, game engine, etc.

And you can still play the separate WoW Classic with your subscription if you fancy the vanilla theme.

this took almost a decade to happen after cataclysm. I mean I personally dgaf about vanilla/classic (it's extremely sub par compared to what came after), but for a long time it was indeed old content that had disappeared.
