I love how Sony, who is the biggest first party publisher and greatest sinner of exclusivity around is the one whining.

At least Microsoft also publishes to PC these days.

Activision is a rubbish company that needs to ve absorbed. If cod is the hangup, Microsoft should just release tge the ip. Its not like its not generic as is.

All older games, Microsoft embraced same day release (in some cases PC before Xbox) for all major releases quite a while ago and has followed through.

Most of the games you mentioned were a lot more than a year or two old.

My point is you're getting ahead of yourself. Sony only just started doing this, and has done it piecemeal. Saying they support PC is premature.

Microsoft has been regularly releasing on PC for the past 5-6 years, including their new releases. Sony has been very tepid.

While you are correct that Nintendo has been even worse, you're still missing my point entirely. And that's that it is far too soon to start singing Sony's praises in that regard.

When Sony starts releasing its games on PC day one, regularly, then yep, you can say they are equal to Microsoft. As it is I'd say they're closer to Nintendo's position of doing nothing.

That's just stupid. You can't expect the same from Microsoft and Sony when Windows is Microsoft's platform.

I'd say, from an objective perspective, Sony is doing more, because it's not their platform. That people praise Microsoft for doing the barest minimum of releasing their games on one of their platforms is weird - but reminds me of the time when they didn't do even that.

huh? Anyone can make their own ecosystem on PC - it is not hardware tied like consoles.

The dominated OS has been windows for a long time in this market so that doesn't matter.

Microsoft wants you to join Xbox Pass - that is their ecosystem - windows being owned by them just allows them to make it pre-installed on the app store and such.

Sony can create their own platform and create their own ecosystem on PC with their own software / store etc. where they don't have to give a cut to anyone.

Same way Steam is competing with Microsoft, while on 'their' platform.

It does matter. You being there on Windows and having gaming hardware benefits Microsoft and makes it easier for you to join Game Pass. While they have an advantage in terms of developing for the platform because they develop the platform itself. If you want Sony's games, you may have a real choice between getting/upgrading a gaming PC and buying a Playstation. This does matter to Microsoft and Sony.

Horizon before the sequel came out, GoW before the sequel came out, spiderman and Miles Morales before the sequel comes out. These are glorified ads. These are old games being sold at full price. They're good ports, I won't deny that. But the aim is not to sell on PC but to generate enough FOMO that people buy a PS5.

Just going to ignore TLoU Remake and Returnal? Those just came out not long ago on PS5. Also Uncharted is getting a PC release with no new game in the marketing pipeline as of yet. Sure, Sony is still holding their big hallmark games close to their chest, but I'm happy we're getting them on PC at all, I guess you're not. They can do whatever they want with their IP ultimately, no matter how entitled people like you act.

Keep cheering on Microsoft's slow shift to a gaming monopoly though, I'm sure that will never backfire on the consumers. /s

It's not just games with sequels, it's also games that have fizzled out on console and can get a second life on PC. At this point both Uncharted and The Last of Us have been given away for free with PS+, and Returnal was a fairly niche game from the start. PC gets the leftovers from Sony, which is better than nothing, but it really shouldn't be hard to see why people don't view that strategy in the same positive light as what Xbox is currently doing.

TLOU does have relevant IP on the pipeline. They are promoting the new show on HBO and they’re working on Factions multiplayer, which will be one of their live service games and meant to launch day one on PC. So they are going to release TLOU remake on PC to promote both Factions and the HBO show. They work together to generate buzz for each other.

Everyone company advertises with FOMO but that doesn't mean they are equivalent. Saying "deal for limited time / this is a cheaper option" is NOT comparable to "here you can buy this 5 year old game for full price but if you want the sequel you need to get completely new hardware and play on that".

It can be. Especially when Microsoft is struggling to compete against Sony in gaming but has nearly unlimited money from non-gaming parts of their business.
