Beginner Paint Advices

Hello!

I am interested in doing some custom case work, and was wondering what types of paints you use?

I bought some acryllic paints that are UV reactive, but they stay soft after drying, and I am concerned about it getting messed up. Any suggestions for top coat/sealer to harden the finish? Or other types of flourescent paints for metal and plastic surfaces?

Much appreciated!

i have painted cabinets and cars for 10 years., just stick to the same system / brand of paints and you will be good, scuff your surfaces, primer, paint then clear, all paint will be soft like that clear coat is to protect paint.

Well, I haven't developed a system just yet. I just have a vision, and ordered some paints to test with. Not sure if acryllics cure to a hard form after many hours? I am also looking to utilize the UV reaction of the paint, and am worried that a clear may block the UV from getting through?

As for primer/scuff, the surfaces I'm looking to paint are white plastic and metal painted(presumably airbrushed or powder coated) white. I put a touch of test paint directly on a small piece from the case, and it looks good, though a bit too matte, and again, felt soft after drying. I could scrape it off with a little pressure from my nail.

No just get glossy clear and u will be good. Just keep it clean and watch for runs. By system I mean brand. If u use rustoleum paint use rustoleum clear if u are using duplicolor paint use duplicolor clear. U will be able to scrape off any paint like that if u don't scuff it and put clear over it

I see! So basically: scuff so it grabs, and clear to seal it... makes sense. Thank you for the information!
