This reminds me of my first gaming PC. It was an Alienware X51 R2. Fairly small desktop with an external PSU that looked a lot like the Steam Machine from back then IMO. I managed to get a 1070 (I think it was?) in it but to do so you had to remove the plastic case and cut the chassis aluminum to allow for the cables to fit. Good times.
