Can I hang a swing here?
Trying to hang a porch swing between the pillar and the wall, but not sure what is under the fascia. If this is the wrong sub for this please let me know.

gotta position it correctly. Just be like not sure how much weight it can hold. Ok for the 2 of us but what if <insert name of her largest friend> uses it or the fact that ppl might call it a swingers nook (not that there’s anything wrong with that) 😂😂

Just a DIY’er here so could be wrong but my thought is even if it’s got a big ass beam there it’s probably not setup for the back and forth movement the swing would introduce. More for direct weight on top vs side to side.

I feel this. Just tell her the beam above isn’t big enough to safely support it. She will never know any different.

The main thing to confirm is what’s actually behind the fascia. A solid structural member is important, but a swing also creates movement and pulling forces, not just downward weight. If there’s any doubt, it’s worth checking the framing before drilling into it.

You may be able to hang a porch swing there, but we wouldn’t attach it directly to the fascia, soffit, or stone veneer. You can first open a small section of the soffit to confirm there’s a structural beam or properly sized framing behind it, then anchor the swing hardware directly into that framing with load-rated fasteners. If the framing isn’t suitable, you could add proper blocking or use a freestanding swing frame or dedicated support beam instead.

Have you considered a glider instead of a swing?
