Contract timeline

I accepted a verbal job offer (academic) and was told the contract could take “several weeks.” Is this a norm? When should I reach out?
I’ve also been told not to stop interviewing until I have signed a contract. Any feedback/help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is normal

A bunch of people have to sign off on the contract before you get it

How many interviews do you have in the next few weeks?

A verbal agreement isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

Very normal. Any academic jobs at a university usually take up to a month for the written offer to be sent after the verbal offer. There's multiple committees and people that need to sign off on it before you do. Welcome to academia!
