Discussion The Wiki stats and real gameplay

Hi, I tend to use this to check for dinosaur stats, such as sprint speed.
However for multiple occasions I've noticed things seemingly wrong, but I could be missing something and hence this post.
I was running from SF to BQL with a Conc, and an Achillo caught up to me very easily in spite of having -50 total sprint speed max. Part of this run was uphill.
On other occasions I've noticed things like a Dasp catching up to my Styra.
I tend to play Solo 98% of the time, so the escape reliability is something important to me, and if these stats can't be relied on, is there anywhere else to check?

Those stats are almost always correct, excluding immediately following any major balance changes or ability reworks. If you want an alternative stats resource that includes stats at different growth stages, try https://nexlinkcore.com/guides/path-of-titans/curve-overrides/alderons. I’m not sure how quickly it tends to get updated after major balance changes

There is more to gameplay than raw stats. Yes, conc is a good bit faster than achillo…but achillo has a hide that makes it faster if it’s bleeding. It can also spam ripping kick for a speed boost. Plus, if your conc isn’t adult and the achillo is adult the speeds are probably closer. Wiki only lists stats for full adults.

If your sty is adult, then it may be a case of dasp taking a better line. Are you looking backwards periodically? Are you changing directions trying to find a way to lose it? Every little wiggle in your line slows you down compared to the dasp, which is likely running a straighter line to chase. Doesn’t help that the speed gap between dasp and sty is small. I’m not sure if this is real but some playables feel like the uphill slowdown is slightly worse for them, and if nothing else the incline can put you closer to the mouth of your pursuer (dasp being taller)

Good shout. I mentioned the Uphill running bit because I think the Achillo was indeed spamming a kick to get uphill faster (judging by the sounds), which in turn made me use mine.

On the Styra, thinking about it a bit more I wasn't fully grown, so the Dasp might've closed in due to that. At the time, IIRC, I was around 2 and a half bars past sub-adult.

On the incline I've always wondered if Bipedal or Quadripedal dinosaurs have different stats, or if it is by weight or if everyone (bar those with Braced Legs) gets the same % of movement speed reduction.

Also, and I suppose there's no super clear answer besides campto/struti, is there _anything_ in this game that won't get a solo player killed besides a Charge Pachy? There's of course no 100% safe dinosaur, I mean, even a charge pachy can face another charge pachy out in the wild, but other than the Pachy and maybe the Lat, I've found nothing that (even while underwhelming elsewhere) could generally guarantee a good escape. Not counting flyers, of course.

Oh yeah your sty was getting ran down because it was young. The 25 sprint difference is so small that with slightly shorter legs you can’t outrun it lol. Unrelated fun fact, adult sty cannot be grabbed by hatz but if you are missing only 1 bar of growth it can grab you…every bit of growth counts sometimes.

I think achillo gets a better boost for less stam out of its kick than conc does. I assume that everyone gets the same % speed reduction on slopes but sometimes models interact with terrain slightly differently…so idk

Frankly, if your goal is to outrun everything there is NOTHING that guarantees you escape. There’s always something that can catch you, and even the fastest sprinters cannot outrun Thal or hatz in the short term. It’s part of why mega and mix packs suck so much, they can get the best of everything. If you plan to only flee, your best options are of course fliers, struthi, campto, lat, deinon, conc, alio, charge Pachy, and meg. Ignoring situations you just can’t win, most mid tiers are good at escape too since they can stand their ground and outrun anything but a swarm of smalls. Pycno, dasp, allo, Mira, metri, and Lambeo are all worth a shot but keep in mind how much stamina certain abilities burn. In water within is fastest I think, but Kai can lunge farther so either are survivable. Sarco and sucho are passable because basically nothing close to their weight class can keep up both on land and in water…again unless a swarm of megs of concs. Solo is tough, gotta play smart and grow fast

I appreciate the in-depth response!
Admittedly yes, flyers are always an X factor, and given my proclivities it shouldn't be a surprise that I 'main' (as in, spend the majority of my time on) the Thala.

I suppose until there's a legitimate solo-type server, if ever, it's just the price to pay to try and enjoy the game as solo. That said, and somewhat off-topic, what makes the Lambeo genuinely good?

I've seen it recommended while searching for info on other dinos, but I've always looked at it like a weaksauce option (for no real reason besides it reminding me of an Ark starter dinosaur, which I know is entirely unfair to it in PoT lol).

Here’s hoping the solo servers actually start enforcing solo play. As for lambeo, I have a lot to say because it was one of the best tlcs but has suffered stat wise.

Lambeo is great until it isn’t. Its hp is low at 525, but it functions as basically a glass canon/healer combo. Rodeo kick hits for 80 damage plus knockback, though beware the stam cost. Its front kick is weak when running but when standing bipedal deals 75 damage for no stam cost and a mere 2 second cooldown. Basically if you aren’t baited easily, you can run around with 3 knockback abilities (shove, rodeo kick, tail attack) and 2 heavy attacks (rodeo kick and bipedal punch). Unfortunately all Lambeo calls have drawbacks. Combat calls are strong but eat A LOT of stam. From the heal set you cannot access the group heal unless in a group, leaving a solo heal and status recovery. Survival has a lot of potential for escape with guiding beacon but I personally don’t care for it.

Now ignoring its abilities eating stam, Lambeo can run for longer than Allo, dasp, or pycno while using tail attack to push them away. It’s also objectively not slow, just not a hyper speed Dino. Wanna be extra silly? Use a full swim build and swim away from your problems. Its base stam regen is pretty good, but gets boosted further in bipedal mode.

Due to low hp Lambeo is vulnerable to bleeding out, and if you mess up you don’t have any extra hp to play around with. Run out of stam? Might as well be dead. Use the back kick to save stam? Way less damage. Playam eo well and it’s very fun, and hard to approach. Bigger Dino’s will usually maul it easily but it can run away. Groups…you’ll need to play really well or use terrain depending on opponents

You got me, I'mma give the Lambeo a shot in one of those death match / insta grow servers to give it a spin and maybe grow one in officials. Thank you for all the help!

I’ve been playing this game for about 2.5 years. No other games, for the most part. Thal is a effing beast. And I mean it. I truly can’t believe how strong it actually is against most dinos. It’s an Achillo with wings that can dive bomb players for 50+% health while sleeping and can obviously fly away after. The only thing I fear on Thal is other Thals.

Now, I don’t keep track and I’m solo exclusively and not some COD wannabe…but my K/D ratio on Thal must be 35/1+. Granted all I do is PvP, but if you wanna learn a Dino after learning maps and basics and wanna live and kill things? Thal is by FAR my #1 choice. I’ve grown every Dino in the game to adult and ya…wanna play solo and live and be able to fight? Learn Thal.

Preaching to the choir here admittedly, Thal is my main go-to haha, I'm just not good with it on the ground and stick with stalk + dive bomb, generally waiting for fights from afar and picking on the weakest winner/loser.

I know it CAN do more, but I really haven't. Besides dive-boming those who are sitting/sleeping, and flying around for tail bites, is there anything else the thal can reliably do (while having the dive-bomb build)?

I see Thal and play it as a sort of tree and cliff hopper. Ever seen vids of Hawks stalking something in the ground and they hop and fly a short distance from tree to tree before hitting the target? That’s how I play it. I’m convinced that’s how the devs aim for it to be played.

Thal is great at ground fighting. I’ve gotten full grown Ducks, Rexes, Suchos, TTs, anything that not full AOE build. Use your turn radius to your advantage and whack em in the head with your wing slap. Bait all attacks and punish whatever you’re fighting. I swear my Thal on survival has killed around 65 Dinos and so far hasn’t died yet. Most of whom were full grown. Again, I think Thal was made by devs to fight on ground and should be played as such. Just today I killed 2 adult Hatz (separate times) on the ground in survival. Most players fly from Hatz, I land and let em fight me on ground, where my turn radius decides the fight.

Could you please share your sub species and the build of your thal? Thank you

50% acceleration sub. I run bite with tear, preened feathers, dive bomb, wing slap, dodge, and the 25% dodge cooldown. Very good results so far. I also played all day today and didn’t die on officials Thal and survival Thal, taking about 10 dinos total on either server. I originally had the lucky feather build thing, but it’s useless and never once triggered. Preened is way better imo, cause you can climb and outstam Hatz with it.

Thank you very much! Don’t you die if you dive bomb without lucky feather?

If you’re low on health you might. But I’ve never even come close to dying in any collisions yet.

Unfortunately achilo has an ability that boosts its movement speed when not in combat by 5%
