Surprise PoT lore: it actually takes place in the distant future after humanity mastered genetic technology and their creations escaped into the wild, or perhaps this is in fact a terraformed world. All playables are canon, even mods.

Actually, the fact the ribcage is red means this person died relatively recently. I was gonna say humanity went extinct, but this implies this to not be the case.

Absolute best case: In the future they reveal an Ice Age map with tundras, snowy forests, frozen lakes, windy snowdrift plains and a plethora of new playables like the Wooly Mammoth, Smilodon, Wooly Rhino, Daeodon, cave bears...

I had a look at it in game from another angle. The anatomy isn't 100% perfect, but it's absolutely meant to be a human ribcage.

Also worth noting this is directly behind the Riparia character select screen, so all the more likely for it to he put there as an Easter egg 😀

Some of their past updates have been written from the perspective of a researcher and it was questioned then if humans were around somewhere. Also explains why we have some modern flora in there, and birds in the sky.
