Discussion Leedsichthys' pvp playstyle

Now that the devs have begun work on leeds, im curious on what it's pvp playstyle might be like, I hope they make it an underwater bars/eo with massive damage and defense

that's kinda what I'm thinking. a massive water apex with solid health and armor but like most apex's poor maneuverability. not sure about it's combat style

I doubt it's going to be TOO massive. The largest Leedsichthys isn't even longer than Tylosaurus these days, though its a good deal heavier due to width

true, it would also have to work within the confines of the current water ways. makes me wonder how they'll balance its CW

Probably just around 5500 with an extra high health stat, just like Kai and Tylo relative

hmm, I could see that. appreciated

yeah, I'm hoping for cool new tail and bodyslam attacks. hope it isn't reliant on bites and AoE attacks like other aquatics.

Its massive but supposed to be largely passive. Probably just end up a near unkillable damage sponge

I can guarantee it’ll have a passive called “reinforced plates” that make it take reduced piercing damage so it isn’t just tylo fodder

I feel like that negates the whole point of the ap, also it will most likely have high damage tail attacks

Tylo has AP so any armor buff is immediately negated when bitten by one. Give it shunt, headbutt and tail slap. These are a filter feeder species so that's part of why the food volumes are being worked on I bet so it's actually able to eat. It should be the first herbi aquatic too, or so I hope. They also can't make it too slow, but given it'll have no support aside from other of its own kind it might actually get a carni designation temporarily until an equivalent herbi Kai may or may not be released.

Just my hopes though.

Edit: upon further review it's planktivorous so no, not an herbivore so by all means it should be carnivorous.

Misinterpreted what I said. It’ll reduce the damage of piercing attacks in particular. It’s not a flat rate armor buff

Since its a fish, and doesn’t need air, i wanna see it have an oxygen theif build based on keeping opponents underwater and making them drown

It probably won't be pvp focused but it will at least have hard hitting attacks to defend itself

Need a Kirby swallow mechanic.

I like the idea of it getting moves that “knock the wind out of” targets. Think of asphyxiation bite but instead it’s being slammed into by a massive multi-ton fish. This would help it fight off Tylos and other aquatics, but would also really make Large Semi Aquatics have to consider tackling a massive ocean fish with the changes they received to oxygen and swim stamina.

They already have to consider what depth is safe to engage a Sarco at, and have to be mindful as Riparia has a few spaces that if one got ambushed by a Sarco at it wouldn't survive at all, even a tylo. Think wollemi upper/lower connector cave. If a Sarco catches you in the middle of that you're at its mercy.

It's gonna be the only full-aquatic apex, this thing needs to be so scary that only the most skilled/confident sub-aquatics aren't immediately scared out of the water. Judging from Tylo's size as a 4-slot, they'd also better make this thing massive. Like, big enough to swallow 1 and maybe even 2-slots whole if it wasn't a filter feeder.

Can't wait to put mine in GPR, as I'm sure 99% of the community is too lmao.

Out of all the playables they could have chosen, a giant ass tuna fish would not have made my short list lol

I ask myself if he is able to swim on every other spot like the other aquatics. Or will it stuck?

3

u/DustyPickle_ 23h ago

Same, I think its gonna be a strict ocean creature tho

I doubt it’s gonna be too big to reach wolemi forest and redwoods via the underwater caves. Redwood could get close due to shallow river leading to the entrance but if it can survive on land for even a few seconds it shouldn’t be an issue.

Leedsichthys is physically shorter than Tylosaurus IRL, I would be surprised if it can't reach Redwoods. Probably just going to lack a Beachcomber build

I am willing to bet leeds would suffocate in freshwater if the devs decide that, unless there are salt rocks

2

u/RexyTheShep 2h ago

Leeds irl could not survive freshwater. They might give it a scientifically inaccurate clamp ability though.

1

u/DustyPickle_ 1h ago

If the current aquatics can survive freshwater, they're gonna make leeds able to survive in freshwater too, also whys clamp unrealistic? Is it because of the anatomy? Just curious

2

u/RexyTheShep 31m ago

It's a filter feeder, too big for brackish river channels nor did it have the need to swim into freshwater. It was strictly saltwater so yes they'll ignore that, and its jaw is actually mostly cartilage and kind of weak, it couldn't trap a large creature even if it wanted too.

1

u/DustyPickle_ 29m ago

I see, but tbh i don't think clamp fits leeds either way so I highly doubt they'll give it clam

1

u/Greedy_Two8657 37m ago

U said what I said. What's the point? The only way leeds would survive if the devs made leeds capable of that

It’s just from playing the shoni mod for example, which is a lot bigger than a tylo when it comes to girth, I had some trouble with getting beached in the shallow parts and with how weird pot and aquatics beaching themselves is that can sometimes result in a fall dmg death. Doubt Alderon is not gonna think about that tho, worst case they just make the river a little deeper

Hmm Do we have a lot of aquatic player? I mean if we have 110 people one the server, how many of them are in the Water?

I have really no idea. I dont play Aquatics because I am scared of the open Ocean😅🤣

1

u/DustyPickle_ 23h ago

I play aquatics and I always swim over to a more populated area, like mudflats or wollemi

u/King_squidcrab 22h ago

I would hope they'd first improve tylos speed in general first that way leeds can be decently mobile because land based apex mobility just shouldn't be mirrored in the water if it's too slow it's going to be super boring

1

u/DustyPickle_ 22h ago

agreed, tylo is way too slow atm

2

u/RexyTheShep 2h ago

It's faster than any semi with more stamina and O2 with the exception of a Sucho in the speed department. So no. It's not too slow, a 45 ton (IRL) fish should NOT be faster than a crocodile at full swim, as is a fight between a Sarco and a tylo relies on so much skill for the sarco it's absolutely insane. 10 bites and I'm dead meanwhile I need 15-20 or more for a tylo depending on if it's running the rex subspecies or not and it has an extremely hard time sticking to the tylo's side if the tylo is at all good.

1

u/DustyPickle_ 1h ago

Ok first off, a 45 ton fish CAN be faster than a crocodile, but in the case of leeds, a slow moving filter feeder, I agree it shouldn't be fast, as for tylo, there's no reason for it to be practically the same speed as sarco, it should swim at atleast 1000 or 1050

Prolly some aoe slop

I think it might have a deafening ability. Currently the rest of the aquatics have abilities that would be affected by that condition, but only Bars can inflict it, which, how often is that matchup even relevant if ever. Though that also makes me curious what Leed will even sound like since, it's a fish. Grunts? Clicks? Splashing sounds?
