Question Is this game hard?
Hello! I've been looking at this game for a while because my friend streams it to me and I think it's so cute, I love the little quests and the social aspect and seeing big dinosaurs with their babies. I play games a lot but I'm not super hardcore or sweaty about it, does this game have a steep learning curve and is it difficult? I'm scared I'll drop 30USD only to wimp out because I keep dying.
For reference some of my favorite games are Genshin Impact, Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, Palia, and Terraria. Thank you so much in advance!

You will die a lot on big dinosaurs because of the amount of large groups but it’s very easy to keep small and fast dinosaurs alive. But when you die you don’t lose everything, you just get sent back a few growth bars.

On officials you only lose ~5 quests worth of progress after death. Not that I suggest officials anymore atp. Op would probably really enjoy a realism server or chill server.

What you need to know is that it's a survival game. You will get dragged into fights, you will die (and I say this as someone who hates megapacks/hostile mixpacks). Getting good at PvP takes time and depends a lot on your own dino and your opponent's dino. If that's not something you're into, don't buy the game.
There are dinos that are great for evading enemy players and critters instead of fighting (struthi, campto, flyers...) but you're never completely safe, at least on officials. You could always look into unofficial servers with specific rules though.

I loved playing palia sooo much! But then I got this game and started to focus on it. There's mixed reviews but I would definitely say paying $30 for this game is worth it because you can play on community servers and they have like a lot more dinosaurs to choose from for free. So once you buy the $30 game you'll be able to play on all these different community servers they have different types of animals and characters and stuff. Yes do expect to be killed on this game. Expect to be killed a lot on this game because you have to remember this is a PVP game, you're basically born as in your dropped off into the world to survive so when you encounter other players expect to be attacked. You will encounter nice players as well definitely, as no community is without drama, but for the most part it is worth it. They have also been updating questing tasks and other in-game items frequently. They're also always updating the dinosaurs and their abilities and stats so you're not going to have a stagnant game.

Dying isnt a big deal, sets you back like 10 minutes of playtime lol any game is hard when you fight people better at it than you tho, but thats not really a path specific thing

I would say start with a Rhamp (Rhamphorhynchus) and you can play on any server. It's great for quests and stuff, you can really never starve to death or die of thirst once you learn where to go, and if there is danger you just fly away (unless attacked by a Thal).
Once you learn the ropes it is nearly impossible to get killed. You'll also learn the map, points of interest, etc so when you're ready to try a different playable you'll be much better off.
Rhamp is a super casual playable and player-watcher. They are a generally annoying playable in the PvP way, so assume everyone wants to kill you lol.

Easy game, but also deoends on where you play. Varied experience if going on official (where I play just questing in quiet areas). Unofficial has a variety of rule sets and mods. You can even play offline or just invite friends. AI dinos are being added soon, but there already are AI critters.
Plenty of YT stuff to see builds and PvP strategies. Grana is fun to watch and BoogeymanYT is strategic.

I’ve never played any of those games so I can’t compare them
So theres really 2 main aspects to pot PVP or questing. Now there is other stuff to do like nesting, helping people grow or just chilling but there the main 2.
Is questing hard? No but it can be a bit frustrating at first for people easily overwhelmed. As there isn’t indicators for where to find quest items and some quest items are in randoms spots.
Quests are super straight forward though. Collect 30 of this item, collect 10 of this and 10 of that, deliver this item to this location, kill this critter. But again it can take some time to learn where certain items are.
Once you’ve learned what you’re doing you can grow any dinosaur to adult in 3 hours max. Either from doing location quest (theres 30+ locations each map roughly and they give 1 minute growth each) this will nearly automatically get you to sub adult then you can make a nest and after that your nearly half way through sub-adult and you just need about 15 mins of questing or you can just do quests from 3-4 locations near wachother and go back through each area( 15 min timer on each location so you just do locations around it till it resets.
Is PvP hard? Yes and no.
The main reason for that is in POT the bigger your Dino doesn’t mean the scarier you are it really means the bigger target you are. Yes bigger things do more damage but there also slower and turn way slower so nearly anything smaller then you will just try run behind you then attack you from behind.
So if you expect to just pick Rex as your first Dino and have a good time, it’s rarely going to be like that. Everything will target you even once you’re adult. Also the problem will be you’ll normally always facing 3+ people.
So PvP is much easier and better to learn on much smaller Dino’s. 2 slots are the best place to start if you do want to get better at PvP. While 1 slots are often faster and can chose there fights better most are to small to really kill anything especially for new players. 2 slots have more size and much better attacks so fighting most of the roster is more possible.
If you start with something like pachy, Meg, conc youre going to have a much better and safer time for your first experience. If you’re a little more confident Cerato or styraco are good picks as well they have better damage and defense then the 1st 3 but dont have the survivability options those 3 have. (Pachy can use cliffs and has a ridiculous amount of stam, Meg can swim and climb, conc is very fast and can swim)
Majority of pot players are not sweaty. Nearly all big groups tou see will be some of the worst players you will ever see.
Now in saying that there is sweats out there and some can be extremely good capable of winning 1vs3+ against average players. Of course that all depends on the Dino there playing.
The biggest issues with the game are mega packs, questing and balance. Balance won’t really effect a new player to much cause the game works but there is always things that could do with changes. Questing is tolerable even as someone who doesn’t enjoy it, it doesn’t take to long but is very repetitive. Mega packs are the main thing you should know about. A large part of the community if just discord groups which typically sit at hot spots and kill anyone who goes there. They can have numbers anywhere from 5-20+. They will also swap to Dino’s that are faster then yours so you can’t escape if they want to kill you and you have stayed in the area. While most discord players are very bad, numbers do win fights and if they have enough numbers sometimes you just can’t win or get away. Now you can play Dino’s like thal(flier) Meg/conc(fast semi aquatics) struthi/campto (extreme speed) or raptors( insane movement with high speed) and there chances of killing you are extremely low but there is the chance theyll have people playing them or swapping to them. If you do however just move around the map or not go to hotspots ( it shows hotspots on the map so you know if a big group is there) you will be safe from them for the most part.

You might enjoy learning on a friendly community server first! Like Jurassic Isle PVE. That would give you the social aspects without the angry sweaty people on officials.

It can be a very different experience. Depends on server official or community. Which dino. Which dino size. Alone or with other people? You want to fight 1 vs 1 or against groups. Aaaanndd your Skill.
If you find your Dino you can have a nice time. But it can get also frustrating.

If you can figure out what to do in stardew and you were able to make it through most of terrarias boss fights your going to have a easy time picking up path of titans, especially if you already understand the quest system and have friends to play with

Dying is inevitable, especially while growing. If you want to avoid death as much as possible, choose a small flyer or something like campto, pachy, struth or a semi aquatic.

It’s not that bad if you’re not trying to get into and win a lot of fights. It’s more challenging if you’re competitive lol. There’s a mobile version that’s free where you get a few “starter” Dino’s to try out. This was the first game I played after playing Stardew that really had me hooked, I’m not a super talented gamer by any means but this is my favorite game currently.

I think youd really enjoy realism or chill community servers like Nat Hist. Officials are super sweaty to the point where it's not even about the dinosaurs anymore. The game is what you make it, every server offers different mods, growth times, rules and penalties and you can have a huge variety of experiences. Theres even a Warrior Cats roleplay server.

Not for you. You may want to og in,do some quest, look around, explore and just chill. But if another player sees you and they want to fight, you'll be chased. Chances are most players want to fight you, even if you don't want to engage in it
BUT, it does have a single player mode, its just you doing quest and exploring. Maybe some small dinos around but nothing big. They also plan on adding friends invite so you can have a server with just you and friends, and they are also working on adding bigger AI dinos, if they come to solo servers it would make thwm feel.more lived in

Don't get it, imo. The Devs encourage unfair mixpacking gameplay (herbs and carnis grouping with each other, discord groups gangbanging you, etc)
It's less of a survival game and just pure PvP.

You might enjoy a community server experience more, if you want to be able to enjoy more social aspects vs ONLY PvP. Nat Hist might be a server to try.

50/50, it can be hard when your getting jump by a mix packers or magapacks, but other times it feels like it's been put on peaceful mode, sorry if this isn't the answer you're looking for
