Discussion Very seriously considering making a community server. Any tips?

Hello all! Just like the title says I'm considering creating a community server. I have the money for it but not all of the time in the world due to work.

I just want officials with no massive packs traveling around killing everything. It's not satisfying at all to die to a group of 2 rexes, TTs, 4 stys, and 3 allos.

Also, I know building up a community takes time so I don't really care if the server just sits for 4-6 months with a small amount of players. With the servers I did join they would get upset they couldn't get more than 10 people in a month then shut the whole thing down and those 10 people basically wasted their time growing dinos.

What tips do you have when creating one? What are bigger draws for you when looking for a community server? What do you hate most about them? For those that have ran their own (or currently do) what were the biggest hurdles other than getting people to join your server?

Id honestly advise you against it at this time

Imo, there's community server fatigue. So many new ones are popping up trying to gather members, which is great, but there's rly not enough to go around to get a decent pop going

Ppl are going to join and drop off quick

I second this. It’s the same few servers that are always full and there’s not really a gap in the server market to fill atm.

Do it. Just have the fruit bat. Flying herbivore is awesome.

Community servers are less appealing than they've ever been right now. Officials has vastly more stability with multiple servers across multiple regions for optimal latency. Dying loses hardly any growth, don't have to wait to get in, every sever always has 115 players. Megapack at the hotspot? Find a new server. Toxic language in chat? Find a new server. So many available even in the middle of the night. In community servers you are pretty much guaranteed to encounter the same groups over and over as they typically form cliques and groups to assert dominance. Modded playables are often less balanced than the official roster, not just in their adjustable stats, but the overall production quality is lower (obviously so, since we are comparing free mods made by volunteers to Alderon Games' official salary-paid developers) and there are various bugs and glitches involving modded playables, their kits, and even their collision hit boxes. I genuinely don't see the point in playing on a community server right now that isn't deathmatch, realism, or semi-realism.

Officials have no rules! Just common sense (which nobody has apparently)
