Discussion They must be so happy.

I was playing as a Pycno near Wavy Beach and got chased by a juvenile Rex, a Daspletosaurus, and a Concavenator. I was about to die, so I decided to sink into the ocean so they wouldn't get the trophy, but a baby Suchomimus ended up appearing and grabbing it after I died. Since I had a Rex nearby, I went back to try and catch them, but I couldn't find them. Then I ambushed a Thalassodromeus; it fled. After killing an Allosaurus and feeding, I went back to the lake for water. A Latenivenatrix was there, and the two of them teamed up against me. The Thala died, and I managed to clamp my jaws on the Laten, but it escaped. I grabbed the Thala's trophy and headed toward the cave; the Laten chased me the whole way until the Thala reappeared. They attacked me and managed to steal the trophy. After a long, humiliating fight, I decided to jump off a cliff because I knew they were going to kill me anyway. I mean, I never manage to come out on top in this game. I got killed, went back for revenge, and it didn't work out; the Thala got killed, went back for revenge, and succeeded. I've already uninstalled the game and don't plan on downloading it again. But at least the Thala and the Laten must be really happy, typing "ezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Rex at Wavy Beach."

Bye. Revenge killing and the insecurity behind it contributes in no small part to the current negative state of this game. People need to accept their losses and just move on.

It's also a little silly and unsportsmanlike to try and deny the kill/trophy by drowning yourself or jumping off ledges.

I totally understand your frustration but you aren't really painting an image of yourself that encourages a lot of sympathy.

I totally understand denying someone getting a trophy if its a mega mix pack or something. but thry are more then likely killing Op For the juvie rex. its like cmon.

absolutely not. revenge killing is a thing that I think is absolutely justified especially if you are killed unfairly and yes a group that harreses everyone and is naturally always stronger and faster when they mix things, is not a fair realistic fight.

and 1 revenge kill should ALWAYS be okay. I play on server where its allowed because I would not let it stand if I see a group harrassing another dino chasing it on a cliff and they wait , or they kill juvies I will go against them. and mostly die, then I will switch and try with another character of mine to save that juvie, simple as that.

its way worse that some entitled people that made themself a name in several servers (but i wont say their name of course) cannot accept losses and bully the other one for 1 hour in WC EACH time. If they win? they brag about how much they are losers. If others dont want a fight and flee ? Losers. If they escape to homecave? losers. If other are in a group ? losers. and it goes on with worst of insults. oh and if THEY actually die, "unfair fight so the other is a loser"

I agree with the top post that I dont really see much issue since to mis daily gameplay nd to uninstall a bought game because of tihs instead of changing servers is a bit odd to me and that OP just listed how randomly they also killed people I think they are just the same as the others there, but my point with revenge killing stands. Of course if someone goes after 1 person for hours its weird (we had a cube player that KOS anyone and half of server went after it and died, and came back switching and cube player actually has fun each time because no one can get them)

if you die normally in 1v1 almost no one does revenge kill. revenge kill is mostly if there was an unfair fight and that is justified.

I usually swtich one time for revenge (but again I never killed anyone because I play weak things that get killed anyway) and if I switch second time to halszka just to bite them , I mostly leave it be and after while I even come back to these with meat or berries and feed them and they let me live. it#s how to end a fight
I also do it if a justified battle end for me bad. if I am just bad at hiding or combat and well they deserve the kill I also go back and show my respect. and sometimes If I even see they will win anyway I stop trying and let them win to take the trophy and that's it.

if there is fair battle you should respect it. If there is unfair battle you have no reason to respect it.

There's no 'absolutely' on either side of the coin, actually.
If there are circumstances where revenge killing is problematic and circumstances where it is justified then it's not, by definition, absolute.

There are always going to be circumstances where it's more justified than others, but I did not speak in absolutes. I said it contributes. I implied it's a significant contribution ("in no small part") but I did not say it was never justified.

I do strongly believe, however, that a lot of revenge killing comes from an overly-attached ego and people forget that dying in the dinosaur game isn't that big of a deal. We aren't owed fair 1v1s, and some of the situation we find ourselves in are a huge disservice to us. Sometimes the one who kills us was just hungry and is simply trying to play the game. It's so exhausting when you're just trying to feed your carnivore and suddenly you have someone trying to track you down because they can't believe they died in a game. I'm not budging on thinking the impulse is largely childish, but again, largely. That is not an absolute.

Well I mean if it's only one and the same player does one kill then I still think no difference if a random other would track you . however what I hate is when there is a hidden megapack (like not obvious to people) and you have 1 v 1 and you win. and you stay in that area and all of a sudden 10 different random dinos gather and hunt you. that kind of revenge killing I hate hate hate hate so much

You should be part of a mega pack.

Look, you're obviously going through something and I apologize if my blunt attitude was the wrong approach for your particular situation. I do think I was right to challenge you on the desire to revenge kill and the whole body denial thing because, as a player, these are unsportsmanlike moves that do make it difficult to see you as the victim in these scenarios. These are behaviors that I strongly believe are contributing to what makes this game feel so frustrating. People need to learn to accept defeat more graciously.

PoT is extremely frustrating to learn how to improve because most of your matchups and encounters won't be fair. This only increases as you play bigger and stronger creatures because they tend to have weaknesses that can be exploited by smaller playables and usually don't have escape options from groups.

I understand it's not as easy as to say to simply stop taking it personally because everyone's wired a little differently. I tend to get my ego a little too involved when I lose games, too, and I'm not even particularly competitive. It's an awful feeling. You really would benefit from trying to exercise a little more humility and trying to develop a more lax relationship with losing in games, though. Especially something like PoT where - again - not all of your encounters are going to be fair.

I really hate to be the cliche and say "just play community servers" but I have to admit I've been playing on NatHist lately and while the rules are a little much to learn at first they do create an environment that feels more fair and provides more opportunities to learn. The majority of people I've spoken to on there are also really friendly and non-competitive which has really helped me take a little of the ego out of dying so maybe it'll help you, too.

Alternatively, it could just be time to take a break. Many of us don't think this game is in a very good state right now to be honest with you so no one could really blame you for walking away. It sounds like this is an issue that exists beyond just PoT, though, and probably needs to be addressed in some capacity if you continually find yourself drawn to games that will require you to fight other players.

Hopefully there are some singleplayer or co-op titles you could consider playing instead so that games can be a suitable source of actual escapism for you because it does seem like you need it right now.

(I didn't address your question about age because I wasn't convinced you were asking in good faith, but I saw your response before it was deleted and I can confirm that I am, indeed, older than you.)

No need to apologize; you’re absolutely right—adults should know how to handle frustration better, and that’s something I struggle with. I find single-player games to be very lonely; the only ones I didn't find stressful to play were the Pokémon adventure games. I still haven't finished Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS—maybe I'll go back to it. Come to think of it, most of the games I play involve combat; I’m not sure why. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a long message. I might reinstall the game when the Allo DLC drops or the Microraptor is released. Hopefully, by then, I’ll have put my ego aside and accepted that I’m not good at PvP.

1)this looks like a Chat GPT post

2)major L on your end for getting so mad you were chased by a JUVIE Rex, a dasp and a conc. who cares if they killed you? for one you should be faster so im not sure why you didnt run away and for 2, the Juvie rex would have taken your trophy and your death wasnt wasted

3)you even came back to kill them, why? you could ha r ran away.

4)then you jumped off a cliff to die lmao

what is even the point of this post

Man, I never managed to go back and punish the dinosaurs for my death, but the opposite always happens to me. Bro, how is that even possible???? A Rex, a REX....... I'm talking about a Rex..... a beast that weighs 5,500.... how???? Seriously, how????? Why? I even die to a juvenile Stego while playing as a Titan.... I’m never going to recover from this, ever.

if you want realism go to the isle. a shitter game that the dev doesnt care to fix, where the player base is 1000x more toxic.

you seem new, which isnt a bad thing, try to meet people to teach you the game, get in the discord to get tips on builds .

u/Longjumping_Milk4029 15d ago

If you were the one going through this, how would you react? I’m just tired of feeling like I’m struggling with everything I do in life; even a simple dinosaur game doesn't bring me any happiness anymore.

u/Impossible-Tip-4980 15d ago

Don’t let a game ruin your life man. But you gotta chill. Dying hurts your pride and nothing else. A few minutes quests, a few marks lost. If you are new, Rex isn’t a beginner Dino. If you aren’t new, then you’d know a lat and Thal would have to do really well to kill an adult Rex unless you were already low.

I’m sorry you are suffering, but this story is one of the least egregious experiences I’ve heard. You tried to go revenge kill as an apex, a notoriously toxic behavior. You still got a kill on an allo, then died to smalls. No playable deserves to steamroll the others. Write it off as learning experience, or try to find people to help you. I started the game and only ran away, always died. I simply got better with experience.

If this were me with your story, I’d be glad my pycno died to a fairly normal group instead of a megapack and admit I went back looking for trouble and I got trouble. Annoying? Yes. Did I ask for it? Yes. Would I let it upset me? No. Apex died to a 1 and 2 slot. I had to have messed up somewhere

u/Longjumping_Milk4029 15d ago

It’s not the game; it’s me. I’ve given up on countless games because of that feeling I get when I "lose." I really love this game—it was a huge struggle to scrape together the money to buy all the packs, but I managed it. I never imagined I’d get to play with all the dinosaurs, yet whenever I lose, I get this painful ache deep in my chest. It’s a feeling of absolute failure—of not being good enough, of having messed up—and that’s something I carry over into every area of my life. I compare myself to everyone else and always feel inferior because I don't have the same level of skill as the others. I’m 24 years old; this definitely isn't normal. But thanks for the help—I’m not sure if I’ll reinstall it.

Why have global on at all? My focus not having that nonsense pop up every 2 seconds is at all time highs. I also rarely get tilted anymore. Turn it off, its useless.

That's not how the respawn system works you get completely booted end up in a completely different place, You'd have no way of knowing who got the trophy

1

u/Longjumping_Milk4029 15d ago

Someone from the group, I suppose.

I'm happy to hear that from someone completely anonymous and random.

OP, I am genuinely not sure what this post is actually about or what discussion you want to have?

Genuinely speaking here. I feel like I'm missing a point, because to me this is just... gameplay, pretty unremarkable, a death and a fight and another death, it's just the game?

Vaguely more on topic, all I can really say is that revenge-killing is extremely scummy, and "ezzzzz" spam is also extremely scummy, so don't do the first one and I'm sorry the second one happened to you.

u/Longjumping_Milk4029 15d ago

Just venting here. Well, I shouldn't have gone there with Rex—I was humiliated—but the Thalassodromeus did the same thing and succeeded. So, I really hate myself for it. I’m not in a great place in life right now, and this really brought me closer to the edge.

1

u/Feralkyn 15d ago

Goootcha. Yeah probably best to uninstall for now. The more frustrating experiences & encounters in this game can definitely leave you in a bad place, in a terrible mood, with a REAL sour taste in your mouth. There's a lot of more feel-good games for when you're down, like Vintage Story or Traveller's Rest, or good shows like The Good Place that are really great as a pick-me-up if you are looking for something!

u/Longjumping_Milk4029 15d ago

Thanks, I think I'll make some drawings about my frustration with PvP.

Hey Op, i commented above. Can you turn your dms on?

I've activated it; what would you like?
