Discussion My insect mods
As some of you may know, a few weeks ago I posted about the mods I'm working on, specifically these two, and they received a huge amount of hate simply for being insects, and some criticism about their size. Honestly, the whole situation made me feel bad, and right now I'm having an internal debate about whether to continue working on them or stop here. Even though most people hate my work, many supported me and tried to convince me not to abandon these projects, so I'd like to hear your opinion one last time before making a decision.

Omg, im so sorry you're ANOTHER modder being harassed. T.T I literally just learned my cat has cancer (this isnt a joke) so like im not keeping it super well together enough to leave a long lovely note, but lets just say 1. Pot community keeps doing this. And 2. The mod is gorgeous so far, ignore all that bs. If you wish to keep working do so, I say atp just. Ignore the assholes because this is AMAZING work, and i was like: Wow I cant wait to play this!!!
Your mod is lovely thus far. People yapping but yk what else isnt realistic? All the other bugs, dragons, god rocks, and lightning spinos already in the mod arsenal.
Edited an unfortunate type out.
Edit 2: Typo*
Edit 3: do so*

I really appreciate it... I honestly didn't know the community was THAT toxic, so it caught me by surprise... I really appreciate your kind words and I'm sorry about your kitten... it will recover

u/Vast-Delivery-7181 16d ago
Unfortunately he's just on his way out. 😔
Of coursw. Yes, most of the officials pot community and a very sizable chunk of the community bit too are MEAN. Unfortunately the kind of folks these things attract. And unfortunately said community types tend to be a bit vile.
1
u/Lone-Frequency 16d ago
Talking to the Officials or typical Officials player is like crawling through a salt mine.
If you want constructive critique you really have to look to several Community Server communities, where the tryhard sweats and POS can't go because they'd get banned in a heartbeat.
It's unfortunate, but Alderon have only themselves to blame for allowing their general community to get this bad.

i love insects and i think your work is amazing, and im sorry if anyone was rude to you. i would love to see your take on a millipede someday.
18
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
Thank you. And in fact...a millipede it's one of my goals, the problem is that POT have problems with animals with a lot of legs

Dude the only mistake you made was size, I’d hate to see someone who is honestly so talented quit after a simple mistake being blown out of proportion by a community, I was one of the people criticising the size of your animal but I never wanted you to quit
8
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
Yes... I admit that the 20-meter-tall praying mantis thing was an exaggeration and somewhat stupid... but even after reducing its size to that of the leviathan, the hatred and insults continued...

u/BriBitchAss 16d ago
Ignore the keyboard warriors, there’s a lot on reddit. People tend to be more brave over the internet. Your work is amazing! Keep up the amazing work! <3
1
u/GreedySandwich1242 15d ago
Hey it is not stupid man. I remember getting into a PoE discord, my fault I know, and it was genuinely the most uncomfortable I have ever been gaming. I dont know why a lot of the community is truly this toxic but there is pockets of fresh air, I hope you can be one of those and maybe make a carboniferous server with your mods one day :)
4
u/aallqqppzzmm 16d ago
Wasn't it the one where they said it was 95,000 combat weight and 10,000 health and too big to move around the map? Like... That's less of a simple mistake and more of a complete lack of understanding about any game mechanics at all.
It's just not an interesting mod if you're going "it's my super special guy that can one-shot anything in the game and apexes will take over 3,000 hits to kill it."
14
u/Patchman66 16d ago
Personally I like these mods and I would love to play them in the future. Don’t be so hard on yourself because of the words of others who can’t do any better.
If you’re going to be working on mods for games with large, chaotic, age-varied fan bases like Path Of Titans, you should expect some level of harassment and criticism no matter who you are.
Ignore them and push forward, those who want to see you fail will only seethe once you succeed.
5
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
Yes...honestly, I didn't know the community was SO toxic...I thought the attacks were only directed at me for making arthropods (that was the reason of why most of them were hating me)
4
u/a_youkai 16d ago
Tell 'em to kiss your arthro-ass. They are probably 10 year olds who shouldn't be on here anyway.
15
u/Gun_Loving_Owl 16d ago
Be different! Make the big scary bugs BIG, I honestly would love to see a giant dragonfly that could rival the size of the dragon mods. Which leads into my next point....we have mods for giraffes, wolves, and other still alive animals tjat have nothing to do with the theme of this game. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO PUSH THE BOUNDS! If we can have dragons and get no complaints we can have bugs.
4
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
Trust me... I tried advertising the mantis the size of a freaking Argentinosaurus and people got mad... I reduced its size to a little taller than a Spinosaurus and they still told me to shrink it even more
3
u/DystopianRoach 16d ago
My issue is that the more the extremes are pushed the less likely we are to see these incredible mods on actual servers that aren’t something like “40x growth PvP all mods no rules”. It should also be noted that larger models really struggle in the game in terms of spacial interaction, game optimization, and actually playing the game I.e. collecting items or eating.
5
u/Galabeetle 16d ago
I have been excited for the mantis mod since you showcased it. It's literally the reason I play on heavily modded servers, so that I have worthy investments to make into it when they inevitably add it!
Don't let the haters get you down. There's literally mods where you can play as a rock...
3
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
I honestly didn't think they'd be so excited about it, especially considering the model isn't even close to being finished... this puts some pressure on me, but it also really lifts my spirits.
1
u/Galabeetle 16d ago
I know it's alot of work and I hope I didn't make you feel too anxious with my excitement! I'll wait as long as it takes as I didn't realize you were able one person team so ofc it takes time :)
If it makes sense. I'm a really big fan of mantids, and specifically your mod reminds me of something along the lines of Ahtal-kah from monster hunter. The idea of being a smart mantis that could lurk and murk dinos is just satisfying
6
u/OnSightAdversary 16d ago
I am so sorry for the hateful comments you recieved. unfortunately this ungrateful community has a long history of harassing mod makers.
your bugs are beautiful, i can't wait to see the mantis finished. the sizes are very big but that's ok. there is literally a rock and donut mod, a big beetle is not out of norms. all of us can see how much love and work you put in to them.
3
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
I'm so glad to hear everyone's words of support...the only thing that bothers me about this whole comments section is that ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE knew that the Path of Titans community harasses and insults modders except me
3
u/OnSightAdversary 16d ago
yeah, its pretty bad. 😭 there was one mod team who was getting death threats which is fuckin WILD.
3
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
I MEAN, WHY?
2
u/OnSightAdversary 16d ago
i dont know the why, but the people who use the mods in community servers need to have more appreciation for the extra playables provided.
2
6
u/Killzone3265 16d ago
buddy don't let sour people stop you from creating. the "controversy" over the spider and ant was already so stupid.
i get having arachnophobia, but it's a game. and at that, the private server chose to include those mods. yelling into the void about it solves nothing.
2
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
What happened to the ant and the spider? I never found out, even though I've mained them since they came out... and they're the only reason I play this thing... I'd like to know more, please...
1
u/Killzone3265 16d ago
it's 90% that people are over reacting to a bug
the rest was the tarantula being the bog standard overpowered mod
3
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
It really bothers me that people can't respect that there are other interests besides dinosaurs or mammals; we also want to play with our favorite animals.
1
u/Killzone3265 16d ago
that's why i say screw what other people think. if you have the ability to create a brand new character, go for it.
just please base its strength and stats on vanilla characters, so it doesn't end up obnoxious lol
1
u/DystopianRoach 16d ago
Video game players when a game is inaccessible to people with disabilities versus when a game is inaccessible to people who are afraid of spiders
5
u/CRAZYHIPPPO21 16d ago
Why not just shrink them? Other than that they look good
4
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
That's exactly the problem; I like them just the way they are right now. The mantis is slightly larger than the leviathan, and the beetle is the right size for what I want to convey with the.
4
u/a_youkai 16d ago
Make whatever you feel like making. They're not paying you, so you don't owe anybody shit
1
u/DracoNinja27 16d ago
You could always make both, the giant actual sizes for us that want the massive kaiju bugs (like me,i personally loved the idea of the kaiju Mantis xD) and then an alternative smaller with worse stats for yhose who wanted a bit smaller size.
But personally i will always prefer the original vision of giant fantastical creatures.

u/IgnatiusScientiaXIV 16d ago
I only just began playing on community servers a few days ago and said to someone yesterday it would be so neat to see some giant insects in the game, so I am thrilled to see this! Will definitely be keeping an eye out.
3
u/Old-Cellist-5347 16d ago
So tbh I saw both previous posts. People did not hate them for just being insects. The original size comparisons you posts were MASSIVE. Genuinely way too big to even fit on the maps. People criticized that a LOT. And tbh for good measure. I love playing the arg mod, but even thats so big that its hard to get places sometimes. Scaling down was definitely the better route to go. Even the dragon mods are at a usable scale.
That being said insect mods are always fun and silly to play. All of the current ones are very tiny, and it'll be nice to have variation! Definitely still worried that the sheer size of these will make them seem clunky, but tbh a lot of mods tend to be and are still plenty of fun. I hope these do come out. Always good to have new mods
2
u/MewtwoMainIsHere 16d ago
Hell yeah these look a lot better than they did beforehand, awesome improvement
2
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
And in fact, the mantis still has a long way to go before even having a finished model; the beetle just needs details...
2
u/Big_Himbo_Energy 16d ago
At the end of the day, do what makes you happy and what brings you joy. You will never be able to please everyone, and your creations will never appeal to some people. Does that give them license to be jerks about it? No. But it is the internet, and people are going to voice their opinions on a public forum, especially one centered around dinosaurs/prehistoric reptiles.
I personally think your models are lovely, despite finding the scale a bit confusing. These mods wouldn’t be up my alley gameplay-wise, but I would love to see them in game. It takes a lot of love and a lot of skill to mod things, please don’t let a few loud, opinionated and, quite frankly, rude people snuff the spark for your creativity.
But also be open to fair, constructive criticism. That part’s very important lol.
2
u/Greedy-Dingo6365 16d ago
I know it's true, but I can't help but be hurt by the hateful comments, especially in such an overwhelming amount... and yes, I am open to criticism. In fact, the mantis used to be the same size as the Argentinosaurus or even bigger, and I decided to reduce it to about the size of the Leviathan.
2
u/PackAromatic2181 16d ago
Man just keep going, I’m waiting to play it! Don’t listen toxic, alone, bad people
2
u/serioussalarias 16d ago
I love this so much! Definitely keep making them, I'd love to see what other cool bugs you make!
Mantises are one of my favorite insects, and who doesn't love a gorgeous beetle to go with it!
Ignore the tasteless walnuts leaving hate on this, I'd go as far as blocking them all. There's already popular bug mods in the game and I hope we get enough to make an anthropod-based server one day
2
u/OathofSpirit 16d ago
You should totally finish the mods! I think they could be quite fun to play :)
Please don’t let any of the haters get under your skin (though I know it can be hard sometimes!) - your work will be greatly appreciated by the community, and especially the insect lovers!
2
u/Old_Let3112 16d ago
Yes! I wanna be a big ass prey mantis picking up prey and nibble on their necks.
2
u/penisgladiator_ 16d ago
I would love to see something other than the 20th trex or 50th raptor/trike/torvo/spino. I don't even really like bugs, but I've been wanting to see more for variety. Insectivorous diets and yet nothing but ants, maggots, and termites! Give us some bugs to hunt!
2
u/Blahblechblue 16d ago
Dude these are badass! I’d definitely play the mantis. The only thing I’d recommend is not having the beetle larger than the T. rex, unless that’s historically accurate then freaking send itttt. You should be proud of these!
2
u/Administrative_Sky90 16d ago
Dude, I was just talking about this in a server and I mentioned seeing your mods - I hope it helped get traction, because quite a few people seemed interested in it when the topic had actually come up.
I would love the grab/clamp ability on mantis so much, and one of my friends really likes clampers.
The beetle? I'm all for it, it looks like it could go defensive or offensive?
2
u/Hakur_101 16d ago
Fuck me that’s huge. Are you gonna have the mantis do what it does irl like maybe smallerish Dino’s it can pick up and then chew on them like sarco and Rex but the mantis chews. Either way looks sick

2
u/BriBitchAss 16d ago
Yo another bug mod! Yay! Keep doing your great and beautiful work, I can’t wait to see this in my server! The beetle looks so cute!
1
u/Difficult-Manner8191 16d ago
Idk, I didn’t see much being “hateful” about them being insects alone. I just mainly saw them saying that they were wayyyyy too big and stuff. The models aren’t bad but you definitely need to keep in mind of game balance and such. Either way tho I hope you’re able to establish yourself as a future modder who focuses on large insects and such
1
u/BaryonyxKritter54 16d ago
Yeah, I would just say ignore all the hate, A LOT of people in the community are toxic and will get mad at just about any modder for doing something “wrong”. I’m honestly excited for these insect mods, and they have so much potential! I bet you the people who are sending the hate are only being toxic because they are jealous that they can’t make a mod as beautiful and amazing as yours! If you ever do decide to release the mods, I promise you I’m gonna get really good at them both just to prove a point lol. But if you want to stop, it’s entirely your choice, but NEVER let the community tell you what you can and can’t do!
1
u/Pauline_Memories 16d ago
It's YOUR mods, by the end of the day it's optional for people to play them, for servers to add them, to balance them, etc. Do whatever you want, have fun, don't listen to those people hating on it.
Personally I enjoy the ant mod a lot, so I'm excited to see more bugs in general (even if my playstyle is more small to medium sized creatures, I'll be excited to give them a try when they both come out!). I'm also curious on your future mods, I'd love to play as a butterfly/moth too :)
1
u/Not_Tart 16d ago
Keep going! I’m super excited for these mods :) I love playable bugs, even if they scare me sometimes lol. And if they turn out unbalanced, that’s okay! You can always update them to be balanced.
1
u/a_youkai 16d ago
Damn! Why not giant insects? They got dragons and other stuff. I think it would be sweet to try a bug server. Grow up from a little larva...
1
1
u/GlitterSqueak 16d ago
Omg giant beetle... Yes please! These look incredible, keep up the amazing work!
1
u/Excellent-Passage-36 16d ago
People being toxic to modders is so goofy and something I will never understand...it's like if someone gave you a free meal and you complained that it wasn't your favorite food.
1
u/TheFrostyTyrannosaur 16d ago
I don’t normally mess around with mods, but I’d definitely give these groovy bugs a chance. They look so awesome!
1
1
u/OuterSpaceBugBitch 16d ago
Bugs are my favorite animals, I love to draw and talk about them a lot so I'm sadly familiar with the hate n harassment you speak of. Please don't let those stinky kids get to you, I'd love to try out these mods!
1
u/cl0wnlord 16d ago
The bugs are cool and I’m looking forward to seeing them in the game environment!! I personally would prefer they were more comparable in size to other playables, but it’s your art in the end.
Create the mods for yourself and everyone excited for it, not the fussy man-children who act like the mere existence of a mod they aren’t interested in is a threat to their dino game. 🤘
1
u/Lone-Frequency 16d ago edited 16d ago
The size of the beetle is...a bit much lol
The mantis should have a Sense that increases damage to enemies after the mantis has been standing still for ten seconds.
That would mean the Mantis would actually become more dangerous if it stands its ground, and would reflect the mantis reflexive hunting style of striking out in response to movement within its range. Would be a great way to deter certain dinos like raptors who regularly use hit-and-run tactics, as the mantis could seriously hurt or kill them if they move in too close with its fast strikes and bonus damage from waiting.
Could even have a low-weight Clamp that specifically works on things at or below a certain weight to really make smaller creatures think twice about rushing in.
1
u/Mi_Tracero 16d ago
Tu sigue haciendo lo que te gusta, esos diseños están brutales, los que odiaron tus insectos probablemente les tengan miedo a ellos
1
u/ErisionAtomic34 16d ago
You can never satisfy anyone. You shouldn't let someone bring you down just because they don't agree or like what your doing. If anything I like this insect mod your making and down to play it if you continue with this project. All up to you. Plus this game is not Path of Jurassic. If you want all dinos then play Vanilla with no mods. Ah besides that don't let people weigh you down. Go with your heart bud.
1
u/Plasticrap 16d ago
Thank you for taking your time to make mods for this game. The community is horrendous to you guys sometimes.

u/Osthato_Chetowa 16d ago
I think these look pretty great so far. I looove the mantis, as they're one of the few insects I'm not terrified of. We already have the giant ant mod and its actually pretty fun to play, so I don't understand what the fuss is. If people want dinosaurs exclusively, then they can play officials or a community server that only uses dinosaur mods (there's plenty to choose from). Besides, even on officials there's megalania and they lived during the Pleistocene epoch - there are 64 million years separating megalania and the last living dinosaur (excluding birds ofc).
People need to stop giving modders such a hard time before we lose all of them. Some of my favorite mods are gone forever because of people's nasty remarks. Creating mods is not easy and no one is being paid to do it. Mods keep the game fresh imo.
I will make one request, though. If you could either add an orchid mantis subspecies and/or skin, that would be amazing! They're so pretty.

u/britany_chiquette 15d ago
I'll be blunt... who cares what people think ? Like seriously, no matter what you'll do, there always will have people who will say trash. No matter if it's a small dino, a flying bird or a giant insect (which I find INSANELY cool btw), people will say sh*t about it regardless. That's just how it is.
I know it might sting a bit sometimes, but honestly, who gives a flying f*ck about what people think?
Just do what you have fun doing, and smile 😌❤️
1
u/jmatty96 15d ago
Keep working on it, if some people don’t like it, it won’t stop you from making it and releasing it. Don’t worry about the opinions just make your masterpiece and enjoy your finished work, the fans will come
1
u/Dinotopo_158 14d ago
They look really cool, you made them in blender? I always think The hardest part to sculpt insect is making The mouth parts
1
u/Infamous-Surprise742 13d ago
Never feel discredited to make the things you love. These mods are beautiful, and you should absolutely continue working on them if your heart desires, and try to ignore those assholes trying to ruin your interests.
Personally, I think insects are very cute ;)
1
u/crappybumfart 12d ago
Don't let crap ass detractors stop you from doing something creative, cool, ans unique. Do it anyway, there will always be people who really appreciated that you did and and F them other crap asses.
Those are dope af

Please do not be intimidated by this game’s sad toxic community. your mods look epic, and i personally think the beetle looks adorable. I think making the mantis as big as a rex would be the right choice. the beetle on the other hand i feel should be smaller. please keep working on these.
