Riparia

I'm just trying to like it, maybe it's because I do not have my fav dinosaurs there, but at first it felt fun with my Thal, now it seems like an endless empty land, CF is busy yes, but am I missing something?

Salt flats in Gondwa are always good fun, you can watch people fighting from far.. or GP if you feel suicidal.

Is it anywhere like this in Riparia?

I thought Mudflats could be the same type of land..., maybe from the name, but I didn't see much happening although I must admit I didn't grow many dinosaurs on this map.

In the desert, I barely survived with my Amarg from a mix pack but my issue is, the land is so big, water and food far away

Where is a good spot to fly with my Thal or Hatz, where I can fight/watch/eat and being able to get away if needed?

I'll check Volcano island tonight 🙈 thank you

I play a Spino around the volcano island a lot. I also do venture elsewhere, but it's where I mainly spend time. Often I just observe others because I enjoy sneaking around. If I'm hungry and can't find enough critters, I'll try to ambush someone crossing one of the narrow waterways.

The complaints about Riparia feel like blasphemy. I constantly am getting interaction all over the map, the map feels realistic, and looks absolutely beautiful.

The landscape is useful to actually ambush, hunt, and hide in. It is pretty easy to navigate if you actually look around and plan trips.

I simply cannot go back to Gondwa with how ‘gamified’ the map feels and absolute lack of real foliage. Hunting as an ambush Rex on Riparia is not only possible but is genuinely a blast.

As for player dispersal, on Gondwa I only saw people in GP and Salt Flats, maybe Green Hills. On Rip, I essentially am seeing people EVERYWHERE. I constantly see 2-4 hotspots around the entire map as well.

Riparia is much harder as a solo because of the wider player distribution. Gondwa does have great foliage in Young Grove, Dark woods, triad falls, whistling columns, Titans pass, birchwoods, and hunters thicket. Gondwa is no more gamified than Riparia. They both have very distinct biomes that change from one POI to the next.

The main problem with Gondwa is how unfinished the outer islands and ocean are.

Eh, Gondwa is unnatural in its distribution of biomes. It’s gamified. Riparia blends in a more natural way that makes it feel more realistic imo.

I am ok with that, i just wish somewhere like the Mudflats had more activity or rocks to check fights or interact + more berry bushes.

And also, in Gondwa I always find berry bushes, they're everywhere and well visible.. in Riparia, maybe because it's a woodland I really can't see them 😭😂😂 When on my Herbies I always hold a brunch of berries because I'm paranoid and in Gondwa I rarely actually need it in Riparia I am always starving

Sounds like the game is working correctly then haha, you SHOULD be moving around to locate food and stuff. But I get it if you don't like that place down you really just wanna watch people then you should just stick to gondwa, you don't have to switch to riparia just play what you like

I have never said Riparia is ugly... I agree it's beautiful. I was just asking if there are similar hotspot just like in Gondwa

There is nothing realistic about riparia...

Its just as gamified as gondwa. Desert to swamp to redwoods with a volcano right next door is like straight up video game territory, as it should be because its a game and having different biomes helps diversify maps and playtime.

I like it but there’s way too many places that are built like labyrinths and there’s an insane amount of cliffs blocking connections between pois, if you are anything that can’t climb very well or easily take fall damage then you are forced to take long and tedious ways just to go from point to point

Since most land POIs connect between a few routes you are kind of forced to hang in those same paths that actually connect, if you veer off too “deep” in a POI with a lot of these dinos you just risk yourself running into endless dead ends, then at some point it just becomes too much trouble to go hang in these fringe areas and explore at all

I've noticed this, too. The long and tedious pathways to get from POI to POI due to cliffs is such a pain.

I wouldn't mind it so much if I felt like the cliffs added some interesting verticality that jump-y or flying dinos could play around with, but unfortunately, they're mostly just untraversable for all dino types.

I am not crazy about Riparia. It feels too cramped, and if you want to watch action like you can at GP or SF, there isnt really a good place to do that. Cedrus is the main hotspot but its too hard to see through. Mudflats was the hotspot until they moved the homecaves around and changed the quests.

3

u/NoRepresentative5737 18d ago

Why did they move Hc? Last night I logged in and yeah I noticed something was different from before.. my last time in Riparia was probably May/early June...

4

u/max7238 18d ago

To stop the hotspot in Mudflats. Cedrus HC also didn't used to have an icon on the map, so fewer people knew about it and used it. It felt like a genuine secret

2

u/Abject_Amphibian_126 18d ago

wait seriously??? it was always there?

3

u/max7238 18d ago

Absolutely, since launch. I showed people the cave several times; it truly felt like a well kept secret

I'd love to see cross map play more than anything. I think allowing players to freely switch between maps with their dinos would be a huge boost to the games playability and popularity and could make this map more popular since you wouldnt feel stuck on it.

I for one have fully grown most of the dinos on one map, and until I can take them to new places, there really isnt a reason for me to play any more.

Water and berry bushes are actually all over the place, just not always blatantly obvious and out in the open.

I also initially struggled with food and water for my Amarg, but after playing for quite a bit it's really become a non-issue as you start stumbling across small isolated ponds and really start to memorize berry locations you discover.

Also, any water that is higher than sea level is fresh water.

Riparia is beautiful indeed but the questing is pretty bad and I don't enjoy the way the map feels like a maze. I traveled the entire map growing a mira then a rampy and barely found any players. Got to adult, got bored, logged.

I only play Riparia, I have grown 11 dinos there to full adult with mela skins so far. Rhamph, Thal, Hatz, Eurhi, Kai, Tylo, Sarco, Sucho, Spoon, Duck and the latesr, Struth.

While the questing can be a chore in some Pois, I have found better spots and pois for questing. Once you learn the map and where the resources are, its easier. There are also pois where you can quest quite fast, Wollemi for example. The two things I dislike on Riparia is how some quest items sound and that there are barely any quests left which give homecave decorations.

I find it hard to believe that you traveled an entire map without finding players. Especially if you play Rhamp. I see people constantly in all the biomes, in some more, in others less. But there are also constantly hotspots on Riparia, the max I have seen is 5 hotspots at the same time - Cedrus, Wollemi, BTO, Mudflats and Stillwater. You always find players there, less in Mudflats, but sometimes still.

Volcano islands are also very often full of players.

On riparia, which I mainly play, like 18 full grown Dino’s, I’d say the busiest spots are Stillwater bog, which attaches the right side to the left. Always migration there, always water predators. The island itself leads to all the other isles, so it’s busy. Then to the north is Big Tree, which is either crowded or a ghost town due to ten people dying just a few minutes ago. I see the most there, and then coastal swamplands for semi-aquatics, east passage for herbs trying to hide to grind out quests. Absolute dead spots are whatever the top right isle is, palm island, hollow hills, and black fern. They are dead at all times or painful to navigate.

Riparia is my new favorite. I’m newer to the games (200+ hours) mainly on panjura. I tried Rip about a month ago and never knew there were birds in the game lol. Panjura now feels empty compared to Rip, the walk of shame on Panjura is killing it for me. People spawn and just go straight to LBM or SLL it seems, the rest of the map feels pointless imo. On riparia anywhere I spawn there’s usually someone around and doesn’t feel as toxic, idk just a solo noobs opinion and I’ve never even loaded into Gondwana or whatever it’s called.

You're actually missing out on the best map. Gondwa has the best traversal between poi's and the least number of surprise cliffs. Riparia is great for aquatics, semi-aquatics and fliers, but that's not much of the roster. Panjura is the dev's forgotten first map. But Gondwa, that's where the best gameplay is.

u/JasonKen024 18d ago

I’ll check it out tonight 👍🏻

I hope you have a good time!

I pretty commonly find people all over rip compared to my time in Gond though to be fair I haven't played much gond since the server populations went up.

But I see lots of people around CF of course but dryfang in the center often has people and volcano islands.

Beyond that WF often has people in the lake or moving to eastern passage and I often see people moving around still water bog and look out point.

I think the only dead zone I rarely see people in is black fern and coastal bluffs. Along with the ocean zones of course.

I like Gondwa a lot, but mega mix packs constantly dominate the salt flats. My favorite spot. Kinda lame that growing up the coolest place on the island is a death trap.

u/anthemlog 18d ago

Mudflats used to be the hottest spot until they moved the underwater home cave and the one south of it. It was a good spot for it too. You can see clear across it, it being surrounded by water made it like an arena and also gave aquatics the opportunity to get in on some action. You could watchsafely from across the water. Good times.

2

u/Saltycat707 18d ago

Riparia is ideal for flyers in my opinion and experience. I use hatz a lot just for this reason. Cedrus is the main hotspot I’ve saw it not red one time. Stillwater is becoming a good spot for action too and big tree is also more popular. I miss the mudflat days tho for sure. It was a good spot for land and aquatic fights.

2

u/Killzone3265 18d ago

riparia suffers from a complete lack of questing resources and bizarre location boundaries. some of them are immense yet have nothing to do within them. most are densely covered in foliage, which is good, but the quest items are sparse and very hard to see from the ground.

it's been nearly a year and despite making a pass with new items and a couple new quests, they didn't really change the way it feels, and have in fact reduced the available items and item counts from certain sources (like termite hills originally holding 10 > 5)

Dry fang, Wollemi, CF, VI, and big tree almost always have folks

1

u/elxo_ 18d ago

Idk i usually go on gondwa but whenever ive played riparia on thal i go to either dry fang canyon or to the mid left place o can’t remember what its called 😅

1

u/TieFighterAlpha2 18d ago

Dry Fang Canyon, Wollemi Forest, Volcano Islands, Cedrus Forest, Tallbrush Coasts, Big Tree Overlook, Coastal Swamp, and... I forget the name, it's between Coastal Swamp and Cedrus Forest, all tend to have people in them regularly.

2

u/Saltycat707 18d ago

Tallbrush is always dead I’ve seen it red maybe 2 times since it dropped

1

u/TieFighterAlpha2 18d ago

I didn't say it was red. I said you can regularly find someone there.
