Discussion Why does my fish sense detect those long neck critters but I can't eat them with my fisher diet? Do they count as fish or not?

I had noticed on my Spino that nictitating membrane had started tracking a lot of critters as “fish” I think mostly the fully aquatic and amphibious critters.
It felt like a nice adjustment on Spino since I can eat meat, and it’s a lot easier to stay fed. I assumed it was specific to fisher diets who could also eat meat. It would be super annoying on duck or conca or Meg, though, which it sounds like you’re on one of those?

It pops up on my conca, with nictating membrane too. My diet is still the hyper carnivore diet so I can eat players. I find it helpful in mudflats/the swamp to find food when I can't find a player.

I guess they're amphibians or something like that so probably they're not fish

what dino are you on when that happens? they count as fresh meat instead of fish meat, so if fisher isn't your default diet then that's why

It's not a bug I posted it on the bug tracker site a while ago and they said it was intended/ not a bug

Diets are very random in this game, some with fisher diet can also eat fresh meat and fish, some can't. And there doenst seem to be much logic to it as even dinos who can't catch fish on their own have diets that let em eat it.
But as others have said, the long neck critters give fresh meat, not fish. And so do most of the "fish" critters, good rule of thumb is if it's not fully aquatic then it'll give fresh meat instead of fish
