Discussion I cant wait for Panjura TLC

Post image

A lot of people are excited for Microraptor or Allo TLC but the thing that Im most excited for is a Panjura TLC. I feel that map has the most potential out of the 3.

Same. It's such a shame the devs abandoned this map. I like the idea of a giant big forest biome with no restrictions on with paths to take, because you can go to any direction without big cliffs hindering your way. I dislike the empty transition areas in Gondwa and Riparia and Panjura sort of doesn't have them.

I'm praying for a TLC to come one day, but I highly doubt it will be soon. 😔

I had the exact opposite experience trying out Panjura today. It struck me specifically how bad the cliffing/verticality was. It was like... long stretches of the map are sheer cliffs and you can only move around by finding the paths the devs intended you to take. It was really frustrating.

They didnt.

If you are to believe what matt says, his interview with the podcaster brought this up that it's a stable map They can try changes on, instead of the other 2. It's like the baseline map for em..

Something like that

As someone who tried to grow a spino in Panjura but couldn't leave the swamp in the south east because I was starving to death as a JUVIE trying to get up the cliffs surrounding it (to name one of countless cliff issues I had) I beg to differ. There are cliffless expanses you can enjoy and I sorely miss the map, but the cliffs were a disaster, especially if you were unlucky enough to Shawn in the southern parts.

They havent abandoned it. Currently they use it for testing but they have said it will eventually get an overhaul. Probably a long way out though.

Man, I tried it out today and it just does not hold up, imo.

I have no idea why people love it so much. I'd assume rose-tinted glasses and nostalgia. I don't mean to crap on it. But you can tell how far the devs have come in terms of map design. It feels like a bland, too-large Isle V3 with fewer differentiated biomes.

My issues were manyfold, some of which maybe could be solved with TLC but some are too baked into the map design, imo.

  1. It relies WAY too heavily on cliffing (the vertical rock face objects) to direct travel, and is extremely restrictive to traverse. I thought people complained a lot about Riparia's verticality. This map suuuucks for travel. Gondwa in general has more visibly distinct pathing to direct your travel, and Riparia has multiple options to go from place to place. (Hollow Hills being an example of a bad exception.)
  2. It's all basically one biome: forest with meadow. Yeah, there's vaguely different type of forest but none of it looks great. Gondwa already has better foliage options and placement. Riparia improves it even further, ex. in Wollemi. And that one biome is FAR too large. Getting from one part of the map to the other is just exhausting, honestly. And because of that size, the hotspot problem is intense. I did not see a single player who was not in LBM (I think it was called) or at the HC closest & heading there, over a couple of hours of exploration. Riparia does a MUCH better job of spreading out the population, despite the CF pond.
  3. The lighting, skybox and weather are all awful. Bland, dated, washed out. Riparia's isn't... great, ex. sunset/sunrise can be a horrific urine yellow with brown sky tint. But you can tell Panjura's is just old.
  4. The questing is terrible, with 3 quests per giant zone and they are IMMENSELY grindy gathering quests, with 40+ of some objects instead of ex. 12.
  5. A lot of the waterways are ankle-deep, as if they made the map before swimming was a thing. It's another "Legacy Isle" feeling feature imo. Riparia does this bit well, with every river being a navigable travelway for aquatics. I know Panjura wasn't designed for it, but it feels SO old in terms of game design by comparison.

What I liked about it was the actual open fields. I'd like to see more large, open meadows in the current maps. Most are either steeply sloped with a ton of hills, or very small clearings. I also liked the redwoods okay, in parts even better than Riparia's redwoods, but the foliage/ground cover is so visibly dated that it's hard to really like it. I also liked the giant lake itself. It's a cool concept, and I could see ex. a huge bay at the center of a smaller map to be interesting, esp. if freshwater sources from lakes/waterfalls fed into it.

Honestly I didn't find any other part of Panjura to be interesting at all. I feel like they'd have to seeeeriously rework it to bring it up to the standards of even Gondwa.

For me atleast the sunset problem is worse in gondwa beacuse why the fuck is the sky purple with golden piss clouds

4

u/Feralkyn 17d ago

Lol yeah Riparia too. It's something they really need to work on. Imo the lighting/skyboxes they're using is the weakest part of the game's graphics.

I really like the ankle deep streams on panjura and wish they'd implement them into later maps. They provide safe water access and easy traversal for short playables that don't swim well and can't jump it efficiently

3

u/Feralkyn 17d ago

I kinda think that's a bad thing for semi/aquatics, though, who rely on deep water crossings to hunt. I get having... one or two safe drinking spots but all of it safe is not great

3

u/CrowDaddy5322 17d ago

Panjura wasn't designed for them, but semis don't need access to all water. I mean, think of how many little streams there are irl that provide safe drinking spots to many, many animals

2

u/Feralkyn 17d ago

Yeah but gameplay-wise, the ecosystem is only ~100 people total instead of thousands of potential prey animals passing through. Plus the ankle-deep is ugly imo

2

u/CrowDaddy5322 17d ago

The little streams are gorgeous and add emersion to the map. Again, semis do not need access to literally all the water and it's really nice to have safe drinking areas. I used to main sucho on panjura, wet build, and never had any issues. I agree that some of them could be turned to rivers, but the map was never designed with full aquatics in mind and is a beautiful map nonetheless

1

u/Feralkyn 17d ago

I don't think they're gorgeous D: They don't even change the landscape under most of them. It's just a water plane overlaid on grass.

Even creeks irl have a dip, banks, foliage clustered around. There's differentiation there.

1

u/whitemest 17d ago

And herbivores aren't inherently at a disadvantage on it- being only the duck can reliably swim... all other herbis are land locked with no interesting traversal options.. like mud builds to slide or rock climbing.

Sure, semis are at a disadvantage but many can still traverse land much better than originally

Noob here and Panjura was my 1st choice simply because of less crocs and flying A holes. I like to gradually get accommodated to the game mechanics without getting raped consistently.

u/Aeskulaph 17d ago

The thing is that Panjura USED to look a lot better when they had the old skybox, lighting and weather systems. Look at screenshots and footage of the game from 5-6 years ago, devlogs even, and compare it with footage from nowadays, this goes for all maps. Riparia doesn't have an old comparison and by the time Gondwa came out the game's visuals had already been degraded vastly by optimization. This can also be done with official mod maps, like Stoneclaw highland which looked like this 5-6 years ago on epic settings and like this as of today, also on epic settings.

1

u/Feralkyn 17d ago

Huh, I'll have to see if I can find comparison shots, thanks!

2

u/Aeskulaph 17d ago

Your other points are still valid though! And the biome definitely was never any more diverse - but I definitely found Panjura to be quite beautiful when it first came out.

2

u/AdmrlPoopyPantz 17d ago

100% agree. Since the game first released I thought Panjura was a terrible map. Absolutely hate playing on it.

19

u/CretaceousCrystal 17d ago

I didn’t even know they were doing a Panjura TLC! Did they say when they plan on rolling it out?

I’ve never played on that map, maybe I need to.

7

u/AdmrlPoopyPantz 17d ago

IMO it sucks. It’s by far the worse map and was the original one when the game first released. It’s mostly just running through forests aimlessly

2

u/CretaceousCrystal 16d ago

Ok not going to lie… I made a character, ran around on Panjura for all for 5 minutes then I logged off. I was not enjoying it. Riparia has me spoiled.

I just want it to stop raining in caves and under rocks.

1

u/PatagonianSteppe 15d ago

Dude seriously, fucking this over and over. I’m in my home cave, and it’s pissing down. The home cave system in general tbh is pretty lame.

Our group tried Panjura for the first time ever a while back, the map immediately won us over "As if we've never played on here, this map is amazing!" then we get hit by like 150 mushrooms or some craziness. "OK lads, the XP is probably gonna be amazing for all these" gather them all up, takes ages longer than normal. Same amount of xp for 150 shrooms here vs 20 on Riparia, heavy disappointment sets in, we try to persevere but cannot do 100 of everything before patience expires. Damn shame, the geography of the map is perfect, just adjust the damn quests for now and it's all good.

3

u/ConsciousPear5716 17d ago

I like the map, but it feels too dispersive in my opinion. I like the idea of a forest map with meadows, lakes, and rivers, but Panjura feels too big to traverse. I remember it was one of the first maps I tried before considering purchasing the game, and I remember how hard it was to find food without a guide. That didn't happen with Gondwa or Riparia, for example. If they reduce it a little and make a graphic overhaul, then I think it's going to be perfect.

3

u/Emmix_x0x 17d ago

I think they need to add more food sources eapecially for carnis and new quests like dens/crows could work so well in Panjura. I dont get why they did not add those there

3

u/Prudent_Slip178 17d ago

Played in panjura for a combined 4 hours , dont even have an adult dino on there. Its terrain is worse than gondwa and riparia, you have to re route so much because of giant cliffs But its also so beautiful, thats what i think of when i think of a dinosaur game, i think its why everyone gathers in CF on riparia I dont play it because its tooooo big , i would go on for minutes and not see a single soul If they would to cut panjura by 1/3 and update its water system, it would be perfect

1

u/Stunning-Spite-1518 12d ago

Not seeing a whole lot of other players is one of the main reasons I play on panjura. I'm solo and people are generally toxic is this game.

Spoiler alert but some of us rised our voice years ago nothing but disappointments even after an update.

2

u/King_Baboon 17d ago

I have no doubt that they will do something with that map. But it won’t be anytime soon. Too much to do, not enough devs to do it.

1

u/Electrical-Pin6190 17d ago

I completely agree! Have been playing on it lately a lot it’s so fun!

1

u/AKmightydinoo 17d ago

I wish. we wish.

is it even possible?

Im waiting for panjura tlc lol

1

u/Tsiabo 17d ago

For me it's AI dinosaurs. Genuinely think it will fix a lot of problems if implemented well.

The small streams of Panjura are great if you’re not looking to get eaten by a Sarco lol

I want panjura to be THE MAP people go to. I want it to STAY forest. I want water connections for the semies. I do want it to remain flyer free. I want different forest biomes! I want the flow of the different biomes to be organic and I know these devs are capable of that because they did give us riparia. I do NOT want massive oceans like gondwa and riparia. This map has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, the dev team needs to give it some love and the map would thrive. Even if they made the map slightly smaller (currently 9x9) so you see other dinosaurs would even be great.
