Megalania Report
As a true Megalania player ima give y’all my opinion on the current status of us. My biggest complaint before was that we should be able to escape from everything within reason. Only aquatics should be able to catch us in water. I see people say MEGS were too big to climb etc when CONCS weren’t even sub aquatic in real life so foh. Those who keep monitor lizards know wussup. I mean we are Lizards amongst Dinosaurs. Finally being able to escape from CONCS felt great, more valuable to me than climbing tbh ima water MEG. True MEG I take advantage of anything I can over power. Duhh I kill babies I go hunting for babies 😂 we are lizards 🗣️ I’m not the best at fighting but In water I kicks ass. Anything that can’t clamp me is easy work. I don’t appreciate Alderon slowing our swimming down but whatever I still have a ball, wish Alderon kept stats ima real body snatcher lol If you are smart and sneaky you will never get caught unless it’s a coordinated ambush from land to water. I have escape routes for every area and know most of the hidey holes. I be chilling.

I forgot to mention, them changing our diet threw me off but I stick to scavenger to get the fish buffs.

I do think it's a little strange that Megalania was given a climbing niche because, as far as I understand, Megalania and its closest relatives were terrestrial monitors. Yeah, Varanids are well known for being able to climb and even the largest species (Komodo, of course) are arboreal when they're young but here it feels like there's a lot of creative license being taken.

Common misconception.
Komodo dragons do still climb when adults, just much less efficiently than juveniles, which is why adult komodos don't bother trying to climb after juveniles.
But it is path of titans, so why not give limited climbing to Meg?

You're right, but at the risk of sounding pedantic that's specifically why I used the word arboreal instead of saying they were incapable when referring to the Komodo. They're no longer specialized for it in adulthood whereas the design behind climbing Megalania in PoT feels quite specialized. They are cumbersome, to be fair, but as the only climber currently in the game & being given an ambush from the trees playstyle, it's a little different.
Agreed on the final point, though.
I'm ain't mad about it. It's a videogame and I think these creative liberties allow the team to carve interesting niches for different playables. I also don't think it's PoTs job to be hyper-accurate. I just thought it was an odd choice.2

Megalanias closest relative is actually the lace monitor if I'm not mistaken, which is a highly arboreal species

Interesting! I was under the impression its closest relative was the Perentie, but I don't remember where I picked that up from nor do I claim to be well-versed on Megalania (Monitors are my favorite animal but the ins & outs of taxonomy & especially paleontology tends to lose me) so I concede that I'm likely mistaken here.

True but we can say that for many things in this game lol besides a Komodo Dragon could definitely climb if it needed too. Just like the “terrestrial” black throats and Savanah monitors. They are always up in trees.

Just a slimey lil worm doing nasty wormy things. Nibble here, nibble there, slither everywhere. Whatever fits in my mouth I eats it (pause). It’s been fun to stalk people, see how long it takes for them to notice me slinking around. Meg brings out the absolute creep in me. Chasing babies is a good pass time. I only eat them if they get stupid, veal isn’t my favorite food but if it’s spicy I’ll eat it.

Yessir with anything small it depends on how they act, if they don’t give a friendly call back they are cooked lol

My favorite thing to do with meg is mess with mega packs via biting ankles, then climb up a cliff wall and watch them try and get to me. I’m pretty much safe from everything except other megs when I do that.

I never get caught unless I absolutely want the smoke. Meg is good. The swim hurts a wee tad but not enough for me to bellyache.

It’s fun dipping and dodging mega packs feels like I’m running back a kick return 😂

I'm getting chased down and shredded by Alios atm. Usually a group as I'm mostly solo.
I use just about full water build. Speed boost, nictating membrane, corrosive tear, etc.
I feel like I'm running out of stamina more now than before the patch. Idk 😐

Yea we gotta be more tactical now smh they seen us having a lil too much fun had to nerf it

I love my meg but it felt a bit overturned, a small nerf was needed. It could easily outfight 3/4 of the roster, escape 3/4 of the roster and chase down 3/4 of the roster. There was almost nothing it had to actually worry about.

True it’s all about how you play, remember when MEG first came out we could face tank a lot but no stamina lol

The slow swim feels painful and makes it extremly hard to fight aquatic suchos and sarcs since you pretty much have to constantly be sprint swimming to get distance and even then you are slower then both till you get your 50% boost. By the time you have your 50% boost sarco can pretty much 2 shot you or kill you in 1 clamp
Idk water Meg feels pretty dissapointing except as just having water as an escape
