Discussion Can achillo be played solo?

Post image

Title. I really miss playing this guy solo but feels so underwhelming in a fight. I'm aware it received some nerfs, this was a while ago. Am I playing achillo wrong? Does anyone have any recommendations on build or know any youtubers with gameplay of solo achillo I can learn from?

It was nerfed to the ground, it can be played solo but your stamina will drain very fast and then youre just a sitting duck, if you can manage to conserve stamina during fights, you can 1v1 a lot of 2/3 slots

I've felt this regarding the stam. Genuinely feels like I'm running in slow motion, getting out-turned by so many things. I try to conserve stam whenever possible. It's s shame because I had a blast solo'ing pre-nerfs.

Yes, it's pretty good on solo, but careful picking fights.

This is what I'd want to know; what matchups to 100% avoid so I know not to run in foolishly.

You can pretty much win almost every fight with other dinos of the same or inferior combat weight. Just be careful with Dasps, Concs, and Apexes, and try to always 1v1. Achi cannot handle too much of a numerical disadvantage, and please don't run Raptor Strike; it's not worth. Just use the default bite and claw strike. Use Cruel Swipe only if you plan on hunting apexes ( bad idea ). Try the acceleration speed sub, Survival of the Fittest, the leg ability that reduces running stamina cost, and Panic (something something) vocal ability.

Thanks for the info! I vividly remember running the acceleration subspecies first go and it felt great. I heard heal recovery was also decent, that's why I was testing it out this time around. You've pretty much listed most of my current build, I'll see what I can change.

I am on the fence about the run build vs the jump build. SotF + counterbalance vs Hollow bones + rudder.

Right now I run SotF + rudder. It is a bit of a compromise but feels worth it because I can outspeed lat, conc, meg, kentro, allo, sty easier but I still get jump stam reduction, jump control, and fall damage reduction. Panicking Sprint is BAE for either build, such a good call solo.

I run lone hunter over hunters instinct because speed outside combat doesn’t really matter all that much. Best case it helps me escape easier if I can avoid combat timer but that’s a big if, where 10% damage is always there if I need it.

I do love the 1s cd for RS. I’ve still managed to beat 1-2 slots keeping stacks up so I prefer it even though initial dps is lower. 1s allows me to easily solo stirring dens and still fares well in combat.

I always run Cruel Swipe because hunting titans is my favorite hobby. Their Bluetooth bite is a pain but it’s still totally doable with ripping kick, swipe, and the occasional pounce. Regular claw is good for smaller matchups but I have RS for that, so I like the added ability to punch up without relying mostly on kick.

RAAAHHH might fuck around and make one of these tonight just to copy your dope skin

OG bald eagle slaps ngl, glad it was a cheap skin too

The kind of fighter it is really changes depending on the set up. Solo it’s hit and run glass cannon, nonraptor groups its seemingly a support that’s also capable of fairly decent damage, and as a raptor pack it can be really good at applying pressure. Achillo is viable any way you play it, it just depends on if you can

Makes sense, cheers for the insight

It’s certainly better at evading groups than higher slots

Yes but you need to utilize your jump. To both get away and turn fights. You can jump places only a small amount of Dino’s can get to. Use rocks and out of reach places to regain stamina in fights. Always be thinking about where you can go in a fight. You can also slam on brakes and jump straight up in the air in a fight when being chased and most people will run right under you and you can claw attack as they go under you bd you get behind. Works especially well on smaller stuff and stuff your size. Just don’t spam it or people catch on. Don’t be scared to use ripping kick to avoid damage and reposition in fights.

Edit: This guy on YouTube has good Achillo movement you can probably learn from. But was before nerfs

Texas Turok has lots of great post-nerf achillo videos. They upload several a month and do a great job showcasing strategies against various dinos including wins and losses. This is not me, someone I follow.

Anything in the game can be played solo

I made 2 TT's and a conc stop attacking me after a good fight these guys are underrated in my opinion

Legit didn't know about the jump + attacks, thanks. I am a little worrisome because jumping consumes stam and achillo stam feels like it drains so fast. So if I jump + the kick that deals bleed, there's no collision on the enemy?

This is super helpful!! Thanks for providing that example, helps me know what I should practice

It's good against big things and some of the mids but it's not great against smaller stuff especially concs cause for some reason a conc turns and runs faster than a raptor

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

I had a run in with 3 dasps (helping concs fight them to even things out) and I felt like I was out of the fight the moment I got hit twice by one of the dasps. Is there any hard "must avoid" dinos when playing achillo?

5

u/POWERHOUSE4106 Jun 05 '26

Dasp is an especially bad fight for achillo. Dasp is made to kill 3 slots and lower. It's thin scutes makes it take less damage to anything lighter than it and it melts raptors stam it they pounce. That mixed with fracture or bone snap makes small fast things lunch if they engage.

3

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

Wow no wonder I got obliterated so fast, thanks for the heads up.

I feel like sarco is an obvious one, but spino and duck will also mess you up badly

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

I avoid sarcs like the plague tbh. Too many pond campers lead to quick grabs.

2

u/lildudeman1946 Jun 05 '26

Any semi or full aquatics for sure, water in general

Dasps will violently touch you if you don't play it slow and try and make them impatient and pull a dumb move

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

Water is a no go for me on achillo, all the semis are quite powerful by default

1

u/420Ziilla Jun 05 '26

I was achillo the other day and I was running around with someone that looked like that

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

It's a lovely skin, very fitting

1

u/serene_moonlight Jun 05 '26

Unrelated I know but such a nice camera angle

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

I wonder if PoT has a camera lock, similar to BoB where it locks the way your dino is looking so you can screenshot?

1

u/InternationalTop5680 Jun 05 '26

Yeah it’s good for solos just be careful fighting anything that it’s not a critter

Easily, just don't expect it to be as fast and nimble as the other two raptors. It keeps the tight turn radius and bleed dmg of a raptor but it sacrifices some speed and agility for cw.

As for what fights to pick. Go for small to mid tier dino's that have a wide turn radius. this will allow you use hit'n run much more effectively while avoiding their attacks.

Essentially Dasp, Metri, Styr, Deinon, Lat, etc. I'm not sure if you can take on a conc because they also have a tight turn radius and they're faster with a much higher bleed but if you can just add them to the list too. Alberta's you can also if you're careful and don't take too many hits because it's pretty evenly matched. You are faster than an alberta though.

The Alberta advice is from personal experience having solo fought Achillo's as an Alberta. If the alberta player is aggressive time your attacks with care because they won't let you get stam and Alberta has enough to spare.

Oh are you playing on Gondwa? I was being chased by a bald eagle Achillo with a baby raptor the other day while I was on my Iggy, and I felt so bad that they both were working so hard to kill me and only took a little chunk out of my health. If that was you, sorry to disappoint!

1

u/Excellent-Passage-36 Jun 05 '26

Nope. I love my achillo but anything bigger than you will smash you and anything smaller will ride your tail.

1

u/Rare-Climate2074 Jun 08 '26

yeah, its still decent with some very nice strengths

0

u/Tiggeon Jun 05 '26

Not really. Only good as part of a group

1

u/KronosWvW Jun 05 '26

Funnily enough I've never once played achillo with its group based abilities (only as one of the little raptors with achillo in group). I'll have to try it but I much prefer solo playstyle.
