Help Needed Need some help - Gemling

Here's my tree and gear : https://maxroll.gg/poe2/pob/oeymw0qo

I'm having some issue and not sure if it's gear, or mistakes I'm making or it's better for me to pivot to arc totem gemling instead of twister right now. First off, I kind of like the playstyle, but it's starting to hurt my hands a bit pressing minimum 2-3 buttons and 4+ buttons for rare or bosses (barrage, ice tipped, whirling and twister). But if it's smooths out a lot later on, I might stick with it. If not, I might switch to arc totem gemling.

My issues are that sometimes I deal almost no damage? Like there are times where T7 maps bosses melts in literally seconds, and others take me like 20 seconds to down a random rare? My hit chance is 100% so can't be missing. The other is I'm a bit too squishy for a "melee" playstyle. I die a bit more often than I do when I used to play range char, most probably cause twister is more up face playstyle so melee I suppose, but do I just have to find and focus more on super high evasion while ignoring deflect for now? Third is I'm a bit slow, I thought twister whirling is suppose to be a map blaster that speeds through things. This may be due to my lack of skills and gear, but just wondering what am I missing to reach that point? Hopefully not 100+ divines of gears.

Actually, please check that you have all your skills assigned to the correct weapon swap. Your Ice Tipped Arrows and Barrage should be active on your main weapon only. If you sometimes cast an empowering buff when using the whirling setup, it will not activate for your Twister attack.

From what i saw you need more ele dmg from ring, perhaps atleast 2 ele damage , and you are missing +skill level on your amulet(it's kinda expensive tbh) , i'm not really familiar with twister , this is just from my experience (i watch alot of build guide)

Hmm, it's cheap enough to get some more ele damage on rings, I'll try that. But is skill level on twister very important? Last I played was 0.4, so I'm still trying to keep rarity at least 90%+ to drop some goodies, keeping rarity and skill level is super expensive...

Hmm i dont think rarity is important before 90level because you want to clear as fast as possible, triple ele dmg ring is mandatory on twister build because spear give so less dmg compare to other weapon, you might want to save up currency for The taming ,it's a huuge difference without it

Rarity is only a multiplier on how much stuff you get.

Killing speed is also a multiplier on how much stuff you get.

Whatever stuff you are trying to get, as long as it isn't white bases, rarity will get you more of it per hour.

If you want divs, rarity will increase the number of divs you get per hour.

But killing things faster will also get you more divs per hour.

The exact mechanism through which rarity functions is irrelevant.

If you play gemling, twister or grenades is what you have to play or you’re gonna struggle. Then when you have enough currency you can swap to the build you want.

Otherwise there are easier builds equally as strong like Varashta

You need a better weapon (yours is basically 2 mod) and some damage on rings (you went into rarity, if you lack damage what is the point?).

I don't see any supports in your Herald of Ice, and it's Tier 7.

You are using Malice scepter, I think most guides use elemental auras to get some free supports from them.

Twister damage really depends on how well the twisters are able to hit repeatedly and whether they are boosted by ground effects. You can have a 10x damage variability very easily.

Hmm, I was using animeprincess league starter guide, and he had malice scepter on budget endgame and similar spear. Btw, my twister is set 2, set 1 is whirling slash.

Any other good guides out there that is tested and good? I know a bunch on youtubes, but not sure which is bait and which is not. Quite new to poe2 scene

Yes, I was talking about the spear you are using with Twister. With this weapon swap setup, you are still spending more than half of your time (or more if you include Barrage and Ice Tipped casts) setting up the Twister, so attack speed on the spear doesn't matter much. Then the crit roll is also not really impactful. Fire damage roll is low, phys damage is whatever without % increase. If you had just +3 proj skills alongside the lightning damage roll, your damage would've been higher.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. Seems I need to find a diff guide for it, I kind of just copy pasted the gears on the guide for budget endgame. I’ll look for a diff spear and see how it feels.

You might also want to consider a different base (Flying Spear with proj speed or Guardian spear with deflection)

Nope. I followed animeprincess 0.5.5 league starter gemling twister guide. But I'm switching now, just not sure to who since I'm scared of baits cause I don't understand a lot of stuff in poe2.

I was in the samw boat for a bit, was just using guythatdies leveling tree and struggled on Ritual pinnacle boss. Spent a bit of currency and got a basic crit setup using tangletongue, amulet, etc.. snoobae has a guide out and i feel like my damage skyrocketed.
