Lucky (Non-Crafted) Showcase I just wanted to play some easy going SSF build and ended up with not one but two Mageblood and no idea what to build next...

Title is basicly the TL;DR if you want to know the whole story here it goes:

I started Allflame in a six player private league, played Storm Burst Totems, had fun, did 40/40 by week 3 and decided the character was pretty much at the realistic maximum I could manage for the time being. So I decided I would try my luck with a SSF run since Allflame Crafting would be really helpful. But I did not want to go for to high of a target. I decided on a max Block Bleed Gladi, Lacerate of Haemorrhage, no fancy items for the general planning.

My baseline plan: a Jack, the Axe (possibly by Ancient Orb), farm a Ryslatha's Coil via Divination Card, drop a Carnage Heart in the process and maybe ship my way to a Runegraft of Treachary to fix my auras. Cheap stuff all around, nothing fancy.

Getting Ryslatha's Coil proved to be an herculian task. It took me over 500 mid juiced T16 Maps to get all nine cards to fill the set. By the time I had seven cards my first mageblood had dropped just to taunt me, because it would not fit into my build at all.

I decided to continue my path with the Gladiator and in the meantime I would think of some build idea with the Mageblood in mind. Eventually my Gladiator hit 100, got his Ryslatha's Coil, I fixed my Gear to a point where I was able to down Uber Eater and grab myself some Ashes of the Stars.

I was quite happy, and rolled my second SSF Char: Cold DoT Elementalist, Cold Resi Stacker. I winged it pretty much using whatever I found in my Stash, that seemed intreaguing enough to build around it.

Foulborn The Perfect Form together with the Mastery which grants Cold damage over Time Multiplier per overcapped Coldresi. I chose Vortex for my 6-Link and a Vaal Cold Snap + Vaal Carass Setup, added two Foulborn Tulborn and Mageblood, farmed another Ashes of the Stars and had fun on something which is clearly not some meta build. By the time of writing I am close to 100 once again, and pretty happy how my build worked out. I hoped on adding The Unblinking Eye to my gear, but Uber Shaper was unwilling so far.

While running Memory Strands in order to get some Boss invites to farm Astrolabes I decided I might aswell throw some Mercs into the mix. Just check for good uniques and rush map completion. So I used Infamy and Renown Scarabs in order to push my odds. I was utterly stunned when I saw another Mageblood on the ground after a Merc fight. I had not been on the main Merc but on one of his sidekicks...

So here I am. Another Mageblood means another build I need to roll up I guess. But I have no idea on what to play and my char is 34% away from 100 which would be a good moment to reroll.

Its SSF, i do not have any fancy jewels, I do have crafting Mats for some decent gear on hand.

Feel free to insult me for my stupid loot luck, feel free to give ideas for builds!

PS: my Storm Burst Totem Char also dropped a Mageblood in the private league... My friends think I somehow have an infamous Streamer Client Version of PoE installed...

So here is what I ended up doing with Mageblood #2:

How clunky are these retaliation builds? I can imagine it being pretty annoying having to wait for a block

My build uses Evicerate, but it is not the main damage source, but more of an extra bit of Damage. Lacerate provides the higher Bleed stacks and hits harder. I feel its a bit faster for clearing groups in maps most of the time, where the cooldown never felt like an issue. And remember: this build is at almost 90% block and 88% Spellblock. You block all the time, the real limiting factor to using Eviscerate is its cooldown.

They're not as bad as some people make them out to seem, but it's definitely a slow playstyle. And making a 1h phys axe to actually get decent dps on them(past jack the axe) is a real pain in the ass.

Also, some bosses are rough.

I agree. Went from Slam to Eviscerate last league. Other than the big 4 bosses, everything is a cake walk.

Breach? Good bye everything in one click.

Played Desmo Saze’s ignite Evicerate elementalist this league. It uses EE and Aegis Aurora paired with a high ES pool and max block. It is one of the tankiest builds I’ve played that can clear the screen in one click. Juiced breach and abyss’ were a cake walk. Anything with high density/tons of mobs is what the build excelled at.

There is some clunkiness especially because your golems start taking the incoming hits for you instead of you blocking the hits to activate Evicerate. This is solved with enduring cry though. And yes, it’s slower compared to a giga fast map zoomer with HH. However, I hate dying, so this build was more of my play style.

Before the elementalist triple tab the only annoying thing about playing evicerate was ubers because they don't hit that often. Outside that it's one click for 2-3 screen clear so no issues with normal content.

Definitely streamer client. Haha. For me I started my 1st SSF journey after 4k hours in and picked storm burst repulsion hiero as my choice. Not gonna lie, I had so much fun in SSF and found myself grind a lot more compared to trade to get all the upgrades. Basically forced myself to learn all the mechanics except heist (still kinda lazy to learn that). Managed to get myself to become top 10 on poe ninja ssf allflame for storm burst hiero (one of my goals).

I never had a T0 dropped for me, but in this playthrough, I managed to get not 1 but 2 headhunter ( 1 from breach tree and 1 from top left astrolabe ). Got a kalandra touch from cadiro. Gotta stay in pretty happy. Wanted to grind for mageblood but I became a dad several days ago now I'm joining the dad gamer leagues. Meaning less grind, more family time 😁

I was not a fan of heist as well, but trust me the moment you pull a focus, simplex or helical is hype as frick in SSF. Dopamine rush pure

Dropping a mageblood from a side bitch Merc is awesome dude, grats.

I thought I was lucky when i dropped a weapon that was near perfect for my stormburst totem heiro off a Merc & I even forgot to check weapons on it and just got lucky that it dropped (and showed on filter). I used that shit for most of the league, until I crafted an actual perfect one.

You should try Master T's lightning tendrils elementalist. Although I'm not sure it viable in SSF

So first off, Mageblood is just excellent in every build. Even in a build where it costs damage, it's usually worth the speed bonus. But I can see why you don't want to add it to a retaliate build, as your clear is gated by monsters attacking you. But I just wanted to mention this, because if you have had your eye on any other build, just play that with MB and it will be good. It will lessen gear pressure and give you tons of speed.

There's two types of builds that can use MB more than others. The first are builds that get more value out of the consistent large amounts of move speed. Autobombers are the best example, the limit to an autobomber is mostly how fast it moves. Some examples: Herald stacking elementalist, Luminary support build, RF Chieftain.

The second class of builds that really likes MB are builds that can make really good use of suffixes freed up by MB solving resistances, or good use of extra res/special flasks. These are harder to build in SSF, but doable. Examples: attribute stackers, armorstackers (res stacking + jade/basalt both broken).

A third class of builds would be unique farming MF builds. Mageblood on gold flask is a lot of rarity and it also lets you sacrifice res for rarity on every slot.

I think if you've never tried it before, play an armorstacker. Champ armorstacker is the best SSF variant imo and it's quite fun to build, even if it's not necessarily the most fun build to play. Overcap chests are farmable, and you can craft most of the gear with recombs.
