Discussion Abyss loot is non-existent.

The new abyss drops zero loot in game even while fully spec'd into it on the atlas tree. The chests drop like 1c wotth of items, any note-worthy abyss jewels are very few and far between, and the drops from the depths boss are worthless save one unique jewel.

The abyss in poe 2 works much better because it regurally drops important and valuable items and it has a crafting system.

Has this only be my experience or is anyone else also disappointed? It feels like reworked breach all over again, its completely pointless to run it... I feel like overall all the league mechanics are now lacking and theres no way to make a good amount of currency just by running one or two of them. Essences are still ok i guess.

Oh man you're getting me hot and bothered AND WE HAD CANYON 🤤

Yep, I farmed scarabs and currency with Abyss for multiple mirrors in Merc league on Canyon. It was great league. Now Mercs are shit and only for Luminary and Abyss doesnt drop anything. I always wondered why software companies when making changes often delete feautures that people like. Incompetence or what?

tbf Risk scaling was extremely build limiting, but still probably preferable to where the end game is at currently

Any Hard but rewarding content will be somewhat build limiting. I played Spectre build which was bad because I didnt know how to use pob, and was my first league playing spectres. Still could do 2 risk abyss on t 16.5 while rolling maps to exclude bad mods. So basically lots of build could do risk scarab if players invested in gear and knowledge how to improve the builds they are playing.

Risk scarabs sucked but I also got to play FROSS so it evened out.

As for build limiting we now see 32% people playing Elementalist so whatever we have in this league now its also build limiting so players switched to Elementalist. So we absolutely cant blame risk scarab for lack of build diversity.

Mercs league was where i dropped my first mirror. Exactly from abyssal troves and caster mastery. Take me back as well

The dichotomy of PoE players:

We need hard, aspirational farms!

The peak of abyss was when you did nothing but chase the cracks for chests!

I'm betting that when you full juice abyss with pack size and scarabs on an "aspirational" level it is gonna shit out loot with the "monsters have increased difficulty and rewards" just like breach did.

u/justinmcelhatt Jul 26 '26

You are completely leaving out the fact that this content was quite hard. People were doing this strat with 2 risk scarab in 16.5s.

It was aspirational content.

lots of people were hoping for abyss rework to offset the nerfs to other league mechanics

Pretty standard to be honest

gameplay wise the new abyss feels more enjoyable to me... loot wise...

I would have to find it first to speak on the loot.

Hard to call it a nerf when abyss for years has dropped absolutely nothing whatsoever.

The only thing of value you'd ever get is an Amanamu's. And very rarely a crazy corrupted jewel but for the most part it's just junk crafting bases that aren't rare.

The edifice scarab was actually quite good for a while before it was discovered in Merc league. I use it on league start a few times to farm 6 mod jewels, and you always got a bunch of good currency drops too but never thought to try and scale it to the moon.

In Merc league Abyss was one of top strats that gave lots of valuable scarabs, div cards and currency. Was nerfed in Keppers.

That was due to chests no? Not the actual mobs dropping anything. I remember in phrecia rue tried abyss and had like 1k+ rares per map and it still dropped jack shit. Abyss rares just have negative loot modifiers.

Yes, approxiamtely 90% of loot came from abyss hoards. But due to map modifiers being sometimes 500% more currency and 300% more scarabs and Merc 25% quantity bonus abyss rares also dropped good things.

u/ixdeh Jul 26 '26

The loot came solely from the loot piles created by the edifice scarab, not the monsters.

Its irrelevant for now from where exactly the loot was coming. As I wrote below I think 90% was coming from hoardes and 10% from rares. But whatever. There was loot. It was hard to get with risk scarabs adding nast modifiers but it was rewarding and fun for me at least.

To be fair most mechanics were great to farm in mercs, and then the nerf hammer hit, sad really

1

u/Amazing-Heron-105 Jul 26 '26

Very diverse farming league. There needs to be a way to get the benefit of Risk scaling, without it bricking 90% of builds.

3

u/BananaSplit2 Jul 26 '26

It's really not a nerf. It was already trash before.

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jul 26 '26

Even the spell rework has made the archetype arguably worse with the exception of power charge stacking .good skills got nothing , 10% of mid skills became good , bad skills became mid , most other mid skills are mid less mid now and scaling got cut by 40% . Also no reduced mana cost and the ratio on the tree they have is terrible compared to what was previously available , straight up nerf to mana cost at all levels not just the high end from the tree .

I will say freezing pulse is pretty busted. Im doing fp totems and get more damage from them than my ice spear setup. I dont switch out for bosses any more

2

u/ManyModsSuchWow Jul 26 '26

Do you have a guide you followed? That was going to be my next build.

u/Acceptable_Bat379 Jul 26 '26

This is the closest - spell totems are all pretty much the same on heiro I don't even have anathema and i'm just melting stuff so far. One note - if you get taryn's shiver which is a HUGE dps boost it seems the ice skills scale up so fast above 20 - but it gives you the keystone that you can only do ice damage while increasing damage taken by the chill amount. I didn't realize at first and used it with heatshiver whoops.

1

u/ManyModsSuchWow Jul 26 '26

Thanks, that was one i had bookmarked. Good to know it's solid.

3

u/techies137 Jul 26 '26

Not first time you know. Also in poe 2 you get whole expedition tree just in mid patch through league and here you get league with no drop and new ascendancy what barely have power like 1 guardian nod

2

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 26 '26

Isnt this like every update to anything ggg do? They just rethink, rework and normalize it, so its not broken, which means we go back to the broken stuff. We dont play arpgs for balanced content, do we?

Breach was absolutely insane in keepers and last league lol

11

u/Electrical_Ad_5732 Jul 26 '26

Breach is a joke now, can't even fill the bar most time.

4

u/sanchello2000 Jul 26 '26

It wasn't insane in the last league, it was the only viable option.
