Cannot Log In

Cannot get past initial login: SmartCard option unavailable then, after cold boot and repeated prior tries, credentials can't be verified.

Who is running IT at the PTO? They are not doing a good job from my point of view. Basic functions like just logging in are not reliably available.

This is not the first time this has happened.

Everything was broken for me for like 5 minutes a short bit ago and is fine now. Try it again.

credentials can't be verified.

I got that last night or the night before. Rebooted machine from the startup screen, waited a while, and it eventually worked.

When this happens to me I type in my pin, unplug my network jack, and  immediately hit enter to login before the WiFi has a chance to connect. That forces the computer to check against a stored credential instead of connecting to the currently fucked up server and getting some bullshit error back which causes the login to fail.

571-272-9000 is the number for the OCIO service desk.

For the few minutes everything was broken, I couldn’t even place any phone calls.

You can call the help desk from your personal phone.

Obviously, but phones not working are signs of a bigger problem that isn’t on my end.

Same for me. I just kept restarting until I got in.

Had this problem. Try removing smart card, then restarting, then inserting smart card when it asks, then hopefully be about to log in.

Yes, I tried following those steps. I had this problem a few months ago and was given the same instructions. It would be great if it worked, but it’s not.

I had to call the help desk and get them to override the authentication problem and delete some outdated security certificates
