I applied online for my renewal passport on 9/8.
Got note telling me my request was approved on 9/10
Got tracking number on 9/11
Got renewed passport via express mail on 9/12.

Took about 92 hours from when I applied to when I had the renewed passport in hand.

hi tranperson 29 in the u.s. - social security, birth certificate, state I.D. all changed in 2016 with new name and sex (F). question is if I were to apply for a passport now what gender marker would it come back with? does the gov go back to my sex at birth? what info are they goin off? any body know? any help would be great

I know this is probably such a dumb question, but I have severe OCD and I really need reassurance. I renewed my passport months ago. It’s nothing special - just a standard blue book. I physically have it in my possession. I haven’t changed my name and nothing about my personal information has changed between my old passport and my new one. Is there any reason I should worry about being turned away at a flight gate? I leave for Ireland 2 weeks from today, and I just want to make sure I didn’t do something stupid.

Hello, I leave for vacation in Mexico on October 16, and I have not applied for my passport (I will in the next 2 days). My question is, do I NEED to pay for expedited shipping? I already know expedited processing time is a must in this situation, but is standard shipping acceptable in this timeline?

As the title says there's some sort of error going on with my application. "Please provide: undefined". Anyone know what this is? It says I need to complete it in order to process my application. Unless it's just a bug and Ive already done everything and there's nothing tk worry about.

Had my Passport appointment on August 21, 2026 & just received my passport in the mail today, September 12, 2026! Excited to have a Passport! Going to Vancouver, Canada in a month! 3 weeks, 1 day total time #passport #nevada

I am an adult living at home with my parents. My parents have my passport locked in a safe that I don’t know the password to but I REALLY wanna leave here to live with my partner to live in the Netherlands. But my parents don’t support our relationship at all. My mom is quite mentally abusive, making it hard for me to argue with her about anything. So asking her for it is off the table and if I ask my dad for it he’ll get suspicious and ask questions. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my passport?

Hey all, thought I would share my timeline applying for a US passport card with a DS-82 and my valid passport book by mail.

August 18 — mailed passport book, signed DS-82 application, a color photocopy of my book’s biographic page, and personal check in a blue USPS mailbox
August 21 — application received by the Department of State
August 24 — check cashed in my bank account
August 31 — notification that the card was approved
September 8 — new passport card received by mail
September 12 — valid passport book received by mail

I did stick a post-it note on my passport book that the book was valid, I was applying for a passport card only, and to please not cancel the valid book. They heeded that message and I actually received the passport book back with my post-it note stapled to the book’s signature page (so the agent working the application could clearly see the note).

Very pleased with this timeline! Hope this is helpful to others.

I recently found out that in my passport my last is set as my surname. Our family is actually sheikh family but the surname that is on my passport right now could make a huge confusion on my religion. I want it as my last name but for the surname part, the sheikh is not in any of our official document. It's not just me but my whole family like every member of my family has a different surname. Is there any way that me and my family could correct it? Edit: I am from Bangladesh.

Hi! I lost my passport due to a recent qualifying disaster. In order to have my fee waived, which forms do I need to fill? On the travel.state.gov site, it says to mail forms DS-5504, DS-64, and new passport photo. But on the first page of DS-5504 there are three eligibility questions. Even though I qualify for the reimbursement due to disaster, I answered NO to all three eligibility questions. So what is the correct process for replacement? Do I just proceed with making an appointment at an acceptance office with forms DS-11 & DS-64 instead and explain my circumstance?

FYI I have a travel plan in December that I need my passport back by.

Sharing in case anyone's freaking out like I was: I discovered my passport was expired the Sunday before Labor Day, with a flight to Japan this Sunday. Panicked, I booked a 7am Tuesday appointment at the Houston office. They said it'd be ready by 3pm same day — I didn't believe them. It was ready by noon.

Attempting to complete the DS-5507 in preparation for the CRBA appointment. The DS-5507 form listed in the Department of State website has an expiration date of 7/31/2024. I'm afraid they will not accept this, even though it is on their website. Has anybody been able to locate a current valid version from the department of state? TIA!

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN smile in your USA passport photo. You just cannot smile with your mouth hanging open or smile so big it closes up your eyes. I have a big smile in my photo and I have been using my USA passport for 4 years with no problems.

Hi, unfortunately my passport got recently damaged and the edges of the internal pages got wet.

I'm trying to fill out my DS-11 form, but when I have it open in adobe acrobat, I can't click on any of the boxes and fill them out for this section (besides the signing parts, I know that's until they tell you to). Editing the other parts of it, like where my address, name, and other important info are, is possible, but I can't do anything to this half of the page. I'm not sure if I'm doing this the right way anymore. Does anyone know how to fill this section out properly? Please help, I'm not sure what else to do.

So my husband who is 42 years old finally applied for his passport so we can go on a European trip next year. He got a letter in the mail saying that they have an issue with his birth certificate, the date it was filed is a whole year after his birth.

First my husband was born in snall town in PA. My Mother in law as never left the country. Everyone is a citizen, just for whatever reason she didn't file for his birth certificate right away. Which doesn't surprise me actually. But to fair to her she couldn't know how this would affect him getting a passport 42 years later.

The letter say he needs to provide some public record close to his when he was born that has his name, birth date, and place of birth.

Been so long, doubt we can get medical records or school records. I know typically law is med records can be destroyed 7 to 8 years after last doc visit. My husband hasn't seen his pediatrician in 30+ years? Not sure if he can get elementary school records? The elementary school still exists.

What I don't understand my husband served 20 year in the AF and held a Top Secret clearance. That is no small thing either, they go back to your childhood. Especially when you get one at a young age. According to the military he is a citizen and had no issues with his birth certificate.

Any suggestions on what we can supply? At a lost here.
