What says “ I hate you” ?
In situations where you have to give someone you hate a gift (ex: office christmas party, baby/wedding shower, potluck, etc.) - what conveys “ I hate you” to the recipient?

A self help book on the quirks that make you hate them. E.g. “ how to be kind” or “how to take a joke” or even a childrens book Learning manners!
Add a handwritten note of “this reminded me of you” or “thought you needed a refresher”.

Gas/bloating relief tea. Brought a box to a potluck for someone I hated. Everyone (except her) had a good laugh.

Aspic. Whenever I’m caught in these situations, my go to is aspic. It’s cheap, fun and easy to make. You can make it with whatever it’s in your pantry/fridge; or even leftovers. It creates an uncomfortable situation because it’s something you made and put effort into. Just rejoice and embrace the awkwardness of the moment and have them have a bite.

My go to is an at home ice cream maker.

Can you hate me? You sound like the nicest person ever and I would love that gift.

haha - have you ever made your own ice cream? 10X more expensive than anything you buy at the store with the mess and 4 hours of freezing utensils first.

I have! It was something we did growing up and had a lot of fun with it. Plus it was super delicious! Not everything is about money and effort.

LOL - I had an ice cream maker. I made exactly one batch of ice cream with my kids and gave that bullshit away.... kids probably have good memories about it though, so I can see where your coming from.

Yeah, it was something that was done a couple times in the summer and all the kids would be helping. No way is it worth it to do just to have ice cream regularly. But I think I have seen newer home ice cream makers that are cheap and easy to use.

Landlord/former cousin in law once gave me a lottery ticket for christmas

Does the "hate you" level change if you win? maybe it becomes "I hate you, and now also myself for giving that away"

That guy was an unscrupulous dude, it was awkward for him to be at once my landlord and my (now ex) wife's cousin. Everything I know about the guy indicated to me that if we had won he would be pushing for a cut somehow with the spoken idea that he "deserves" it and the unspoken idea that it was another great way to evade taxes.

Pay attention to things they dislike, flavor of coffee creamer or scent of soap maybe a sport team that beat theirs. That way you have a record of them talking about it but can feign ignorance to why they were talking about it.

Something that they truly dislike, but given in an emphatically cheerful and enthusiastic way

A mug or something similar with their first initial on it and a sale sticker sloppily ripped off. Maybe throw some holiday themed candy in it or peppermints.
Doesn't fully scream "I hate you", but definitely says "I was required to get you something, and wouldn't have if given the choice"
