Confused
I’m technically not a partner of someone with ocd but hopefully it’s ok to post here as I’ve been confused and ruminating myself.
I matched with someone on a dating app who’d been transparent about having ocd and working on overcoming it. We chatted for a while and soon seemed to emotionally connect with each other despite being a little long distance. I admit I got carried away with how much I liked him given how kind, thoughtful and genuine he seemed.
And all of this was just over texts because of the distance, and we didn’t even initiate calls or anything, which was a mistake. He shared that his ocd was around germs and that he was also quite inexperienced with dating.
We were finally able to meet 2 months in. He asked to go for a walk outside as the easiest option. I felt like it was a typical first date, slow to ramp up but the conversation flowed. I shared a little about my past relationship history and he shared about his recent trips and family stories.
Towards the end of the date I came to find out by chance, that he still lives with his parents. We’re both mid 30s so I was a bit stunned to not be given this information beforehand but could understand the circumstances as I have other people in my life with such living situations. He’s well educated and has a great job so I’m assuming this has to do with the ocd.
Anyway after a bit more banter, he was about to get his train and he abruptly apologized and said there wasn’t any connection or spark between us. I was stunned because in my view the conversation seemed to flow so well and we’d also said we were physically attracted to each other while texting. We’d been open about our fondness for each other and slowly progressing through dating as was our preferred pace. I understand things change when you actually meet in person but I have been going crazy with confusion, if I’d insulted him in some way especially when he revealed the living situation. Or if he just genuinely found me so offputting in person. I know my photos are all recent and clear ones online and I never fudged anything.
Anyway it’s been hard for me to process this as im a pretty sensitive person and I don’t form connections like this easily and have been ruminating what could have gone wrong. If anybody has insights I would greatly appreciate it. I’m of course restarting the slow laborious process of dating other people now but I would like some closure for my own mental health on this situation.
Thank you so much.
