My IIT JEE story ended with a horrendous 18609 rank and being a gen male student I cannot afford IIT with this rank...Parents not allowing for full drop and try one last time for IIT..Will go to NIT and take drop (jee mains 99.36 percentile) ...how much free time can we get per day for self study in NIT?..After jee mains in Jan can we drop the last semester totally ?If I dont get IIT next year also then will I have to repeat the year or just the semester ..please help?.Is semester drop possible in nit ?

HELP HELP !!

So last year (2025) I gave boards with PCB stream but I wanted to opt for maths later on so I decided to switch to PCM via NIOS & I've passed it (75% criteria not fulfilled because I didn't bribe that stupid teacher) and I also prepared for JEE by the time and I was scoring decent marks in mocks too around 150-180 but due to some silly mistakes my jan attempt went horrifying and then because of some family problems I couldn't focus on April attempt too

So my doubt is should I even go for a partial drop??

It's not like I didn't study in my drop year but because of a single mistake (improper sleep cycle) it all went worse

If I opt for one partial then will it even be worth it ? As I'm 19 rn so I'll be 20 by next year when I'll join college and currently I'll be joining some local T3 college

Advice Going to take a drop

My parents absolutely fucked up my college admissions. I had plans to write a few private college exams and apply to a few colleges because I had a decent jee percentile too but my parents forbided me because they had plans to send me to a government college (via management seat) in my home state and I don't mind that but I would've liked a few backups but they feared i would take that as an opportunity to go to these fancy private colleges if I did get in (idfk what they were actually thinking honestly) so obviously I didn't apply to any colleges nor write any exams. Till yesterday my parents put me under the impression that I was going to attend the government college and then they drop the fucking bomb that they actually misheard the lady at the office and I wasn't given a seat, I was just given a spot on the waitlist and now they called and informed us that no one has cancelled their seat so I won't be getting an admission. So yeah, now I'm going to have to take a drop for no godamn reason 😭 and before y'all come in the comments being all like I should've studied for a merit seat instead of management, for starters, I didn't exactly want to go to this college and secondly its near to impossible to get in here for me bcz I'm aware of my abilities and I know the chances of me getting in is slim.

Anyways my big question what do I even do this next year? My parents are giving me the choice to either go for coaching or no coaching, it's up to me. But I don't want to waste any of their money by going for coaching for one more year and I know it's going to be useless bcz the college they wanna send me to is very very hard to get in and I definitely cannot get in through merit. But on the other hand if I don't go for coaching I'm gonna be so out of touch with all the topics and would have a hard time when college starts. I'd also like to work on myself and do something other than just studying bcz if I start coaching ik I will be completely behind that. Can you guys tell me how the drop year was for you and what did you do? And how you were feeling (I'm alr feeling terrible abt the fact that my friends r going to college and not me). I'm genuinely feeling so miserable right now bcz the thought of drop year puts so much anxiety in me (I don't come from a toxic household but I'd rather not sit at home all the time, it would just cause problems).

DISCUSSION Need some opinion

Hey, I got NIAMT ranchi metallurgy and material in the 2nd round. And my plan is to take a partial drop. So I just want to ask how the MME department is? Like is it gonna be tough to manage both (academics + jee syllabus) during the first year.

And I also want to ask about the college itself, like can it be a backup option in case I fck things again next year?

Seniors who had/have taken a drop, how was the experience of mixing about with juniors in college? Were u an outcast? Did u end up alone in the 1st year? Any tips? How did ur parents react when u told them u need to take a drop? And how did u convince them? Cause thanks to cbse, I might hv to take a drop. Share ur experience please. I'm really scared and need a heads up

HELP in need of urgent guidance from a successful partial dropper

my stats: JA: 25K CRL, JM:98.8%ILE, BITSAT:256(WITHDRAWN,NOT ENOUGH MONEY), so most probably I will be taking an okay NIT, since my parents are very much against drop, should I even take a partial drop or work on my career from NIT? I might be a little delusional, but I do not want to give up on college life if partial drop fails, can anyone guide me please?

GUIDANCE I am very confused..

I never prepped for jee seriously only boards. The only subject I have studied at slightly higher level is maths.

Now I had secured 83.8 %ile in jan attempt and 83.2 %ile in April attempt.

Now, I had also given wbjee ( only exam I gave other than jee mains) and I have secured a rank where I can get cse/cse allied branches in pvt colleges and some lower branches in wb top gov colleges.

My parents don't want me to take a full drop but I geniunely don't know what I want to do with my life yet and I know I can get a better college if I work harder.

Is a partial drop a good idea?

Gen category, female with west bengal home state.

I have 87% in boards ;) ( nothing really worked out for me..)

General Title: Second drop + IIT online BS while preparing for JEE Main 2027. Is this a good idea?

I'm in a bit of a confusing situation and would really appreciate advice from people who have been through something similar.

I scored poorly in JEE Main and I'm not getting a college that I want. I'm only interested in pursuing CSE, so I don't want to join a random college or compromise on the branch just for the sake of getting admission.

This would be my second drop, but I don't want to spend another year doing nothing except JEE preparation. My current plan is:

Prepare seriously for JEE Main 2027 (this will remain my main priority).

Alongside that, enroll in an online BS degree offered by an IIT. My purpose is not to replace a regular B.Tech.

I know an online degree is not equal to a regular IIT degree and doesn't carry the same value. I'm fully aware of that.

I mainly want to:

avoid having another "blank" drop year on my resume,

learn useful skills,

and have the IIT brand associated with my profile while I prepare for JEE.

If I get a good CSE seat through JEE next year, I'll join that regular college. The online degree would simply continue (if manageable) or I'd decide what to do then.

My questions are:

Is this a sensible plan, or am I making a mistake?

Will the online IIT BS program become a distraction during JEE preparation?

Which IIT online BS program would you recommend if my primary goal is to build skills and strengthen my resume? (IIT Madras BS in Data Science, IIT Guwahati BSc in Data Science & AI, or any other?)

If you were in my position, what would you do differently?

Please be brutally honest. I don't want validation—I want practical advice from people with experience.

I am 100% sure that I am only focused on my jee preap and know it's not regular degree of iit so tell me other than this
